Traditional Villa with Panoramic Views Situated In Abruzzo's National Park

Updated: 30-Oct-2016
Teramo, Abruzzo - Quiet Location, 10 Minutes Drive To City Of Teramo, 25 Minutes To The Beach, 45 Minutes To Skiing

Sleeps 8 (4 double bedrooms). Located in the small village of Garrano Alto, about 10 minutes drive from the city of Teramo. ‘Vitolea’ is a beautifully and sympathetically restored large villa. It includes original vaulted ceilings to the lounge and kitchen and incorporates throughout, traditional materials of travertine and natural oak. The large dining room overlooks the patio and enjoys views across the valley and mountains.

The property includes a ‘Clearview’ multi-fuel wood burner and chesterfield leather sofas to enjoy, together with TVs throughout and DVD players. It incorporates large reception rooms for entertaining and 4 good sized double bedrooms, one with a balcony and en suite. The large patio area towards the back of the property offers a sociable and relaxing environment and boasts breathtaking panoramic views. There is room for parking at the property. Situated in a peaceful location at the end of a no-through road, the property over looks the stunning Gran Sasso Mountain range and is easily accessed from the main road within a couple of minutes.

The Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park is the largest and most important protected area in Europe. It's 150,000 hectares of land are spread over three regions (Abruzzo, The Marches and Lazio) and five provinces (L'Aquila, Teramo, Pescara, Ascoli Piceno and Rieti). A hire car is essential to explore and appreciate the area.

The villa is located in the national park area of Abruzzo and there are numerous gravelled pathways within the village, where relaxed countryside walks can be enjoyed and one that takes you to the neighboring village of Garrano Basso. A 10 minute drive will take you to the city of Teramo, which holds an open market every Saturday morning and there are numerous restaurants, bars and internet cafes, tourist attractions and excursions, a bus station also takes you to Rome, L’Aquila and Pescara. ‘Vitolea’ is 25 minutes drive to nearby excellent sandy beach resorts of Giulianova, Pineto and Roseto, all with numerous shops, beach cafes, bars, seafood & pizza restaurants and safe play areas for children, beach football, volleyball and trampolining. Pineto has a shady pine forest behind the beach which can be a welcome break from the summer sun, ideal for walking and running along. The beach areas remain busy in the evening when the locals take time out for a stroll along the beach front. The two main skiing areas in Abruzzo are the Gran Sasso and Maella mountains about 45 mins drive from the villa. It is 1 ½ hours drive to Rome and San Marino (tax free state). Golf Pescara and country club is about 45 minutes drive. If you have children, the water park of Onda Blu is 25 minutes drive away located at Tortoreto and is definitely worth a visit.

About the Owner

We live in Glastonbury, Somerset most of the year. We spend our holidays in Italy, staying in Garrano Alto visiting family and enjoying the area. We have 2 children who love spending time in the village, exploring and collecting figs (depending on the time of year!). It is our second home, where we can relax and forget about our busy lives back in Glastonbury, and try to visit at least twice a year. I work full time as a published artist / illustrator and look forward to spending my holidays, relaxing here.

A very comfortable vila with great views

  • 5 of 5

A very comfortable villa with great panoramic views.

The villa is situated off the beaten track in a very small and peaceful village. Within a 10 minute drive is the city of Teramo, 30 minutes to the coast, 40 minutes to the Gran Sasso mountain and 45 minutes to the Onda Blue water.

The house is well laid out, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped and even has fresh spring water piped to the kitchen tap! All the bedrooms are large and one is on-suite. There is a large sitting, dinning and breakfast area.

Outside there is a lovely large patio area and a stone BBQ.

I would defiantly recommend a stay at Vitolea.

From the Owner

After part of our family retiring back to Italy, we bought this house, which came up for sale straight across the road. We have lovingly restored this house over the past 11 years and have now finally finished it. We love the position which provides privacy and tranquility, but only a 10 minute drive to local towns and the city of Teramo. The house is centrally located so that beaches aren't too far away and mountains, if you fancied skiing or walking, aren't either. It's a lovely relaxed property which we have kept traditionally furnished and very comfortable.

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

The Coast of Teramo is composed of seven cities, known as the "seven sisters:" Martinsicuro, Alba Adriatica, Tortoreto (with water park), Giulianova, Roseto degli Abruzzi, Pineto and Silvi. In addition to it's lush nature, children friendly shores, the coast boasts characteristic villages and intriguing historic monuments, campsites, private beaches with sports zones and good cuisine. The closest beach is Giulianova which is 25 minutes drive away.

The nearest airport is Pescara about 45 mins drive away. Ancona is about 1.5 hours drive. Rome (Fumicino & Ciampino) is about 1 1/2 hours. Car hire is essential to get around this stunningly beautiful area. Pescara has a direct rail service to Rome, Milan and Bari. Pineto and Roseto has a rail services to Pescara and Ancona.

Further Details:

The Abruzzo region is full of historical villages, castles and sites to explore with many nature walks in the Gran Sasso area, within 30 minutes drive. Teramo is the nearest city with high street shops, banks, a market held every Saturday, and marina where you can sample the fresh local catch of the day. Lots of restaurants & bars, public swimming pool and a large shopping Mall (Grand Sasso Shopping) historical churches and lots of beautiful architecture. The nearby local villages hold their traditional 'Sagras' in the summer months. They are an ideal opportunity to sample local food, wine and music. Campli, which is a town 10 minutes drive away is a centre of great artistic interest and history. It holds a local farmers market every Sunday, has a supermarket, selection of restaurants & bars and historical monuments. Every year since 1964 in the month of August, there is a celebration of Sagra della porchetta italica (Feast of Italian Pork) and is considered to be the first such event established in the Region of Abruzzo and one of the earliest organized in all of Italy.

'Vitolea' is a beautiful villa peacefully situated in the middle of a national park, but centrally located so that a short drive will take you to sandy beaches to enjoy the warm summer months but during the winter, the Gran Sasso mountains offer skiing, with superb slopes and pistes. Close to local supermarkets and a short distance from the bustling historical city of Teramo.
