Overview

About the property

Cottage in Peinachorran, Isle of Skye, 2 Minutes Walk To The Shore. Only 8 miles to Portree, Skye's capital.

Gramarye cottage, a traditional two bedroom former croft-house, recently re-furbished and positioned in a large enclosed garden, is located eight miles south of Portree at Peinachorran, Braes. In a spectacular location less than 100 meters from the shoreline the seaward facing cottage offers unparalleled views across the Sound of Raasay to the Isle of Raasay and on towards the Scottish mainland. Gramarye Cottage is located in the rural crofting township of Peinachorran, tucked just below the road as the Peinachorran sign is passed, facing the stunning view out to the Isle of Raasay and the mainland beyond. Set within a mature terraced garden of a third of an acre the cottage has access through a garden gate to the shore line with a vista that ranges from the sandy beaches of An Aird, to the extinct volcano on Raasay, the wildness of Scalpay and the magnificence of the Red Cuillin. Portree, the largest town on the island, is only ten minutes by car offering supermarkets, two petrol stations, banks, shops and a Tourist Information Centre. From the road, a sweeping path of gradually descending broad steps leads to the front door of the cottage.

If you wish to book with us and you intend to invite your four legged friend for a holiday please let us know before booking. We welcome one small well behaved dog .

About jane stevenson

I share a love of adventurous outdoor activities and always want to try new things. I love mountain walking and have completed numerous long distance walks in Europe and the UK. A sea kayaking lesson at Plockton was a great day out on the water. Hector a small working cocker spaniel shares all the activities of Skye and even though he is the grand age of 12 he still acts like a puppy when his paws hit Skye soil. Hector's great love of Scotland is the rather abundant bog mud in which he tries to fully immerse himself at every available opportunity much to my horror! Sadly the mud sticks to his fluffy coat and he is still wearing it three weeks later........

jane stevenson purchased this cottage in 2011

Why jane stevenson chose Isle of Skye

Gramarye Cottage was purchased in late 2011 because of a love of wild landscapes, outdoor activities, mountains and coastline and the Isle of Skye offers it all in abundance. Skye and the Scottish Highlands offer an accessible remoteness and a scarcity of people on the hills. The variety of the landscapes across the Isle of Skye offer great opportunities to explore and enjoy a wide range of pursuits. Just ask if you want to know where to walk as I have undertaken several dozen of all shapes and sizes and can recommend a few depending on the length of walk you wish to do and where you wish to do it!!!!

What makes this cottage unique

The hardest part of a visit to the cottage is leaving at the end of every holiday! I love the sea and the mountains and the biggest attraction of the cottage is that it is 100 metres from the sea shore, offering views of the surrounding mountains from the garden, tranquil peace and quiet, yet it is only 10 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Portree . Walk out of the garden gate and down to the seashore, with views to the Isle of Raasay, the mainland beyond and across to the Red Cuillin. Follow the shore north and within 15 minutes walk reach the silver sands of the beach at An Aird or walk straight from the cottage up to Ben Lee and down the other side to the Sligachan Hotel for a quick pint and then back along the paths by the side of Loch Sligachan.

Idyllic retreat

  • 5 of 5

The perfect house for a get away from it all holiday. Near to the amenities of Portree, the kitchen is well appointed and functional, the beds are very comfortable and the log fires add a cosy ambience on a wild or chilly night. Just the place to unwind.

A real home away from home- but with a MUCH better view

  • 5 of 5

Every bit as lovely as the photos show it to be.

You can really tell this is a well loved home that has been thoughtfully put together.

The kitchen has been fantastically equipped, bedding comfortable and luxurious and the decor is beautifully in keeping with that of a crofters cottage (if the crofter had a keen eye for interior design)

The large garden makes the most of a breathtaking view whilst leaving plenty of room for little ones, dogs or children, to burn off some steam. And the cottage is so warming that it is no hardship to be stuck indoors by the fire when the weather doesn't permit you to be out.

Amenities are relatively close by although you do need a car to reach them (a necessity for anywhere on Skye to be honest) and we had a very sweet welcome kit left for our arrival.

The only thing that made leaving here easier is the thought that we might one day return!

Lovely, cosy property. Beautiful views. Would definitely visit again.

  • 5 of 5

There was a welcome basket on our arrival, which was lovely. The cottage was clean and warm. The beds were lovely and comfortable and the rooms were a good size. The cottage is perfectly situated, right on the beach, with amazing views and access to long, beautiful walks. We all had a lovely time, including our dog!

A cosy well appointed cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a really great stay at the cottage. Very cosy with two log burners & all the white goods, linen & kitchen equipment you would expect in a well appointed modern home.

This offers great value for money & comes highly recommended.

Best,

Simon.
