Cottage Close To Sea Shore With Sea and Mountain Views, 8 miles from Portree.

Overview

Property

Updated: 04-Dec-2016
Cottage in Peinachorran, Isle of Skye, 2 Minutes Walk To The Shore. Only 8 miles to Portree, Skye's capital.

Gramarye cottage, a traditional two bedroom former croft-house, recently re-furbished and positioned in a large enclosed garden, is located seven miles south of Portree at Peinachorran, Braes. In a spectacular location less than 100 meters from the shoreline the seaward facing cottage offers unparalleled views across the Sound of Raasay to the Isle of Raasay and on towards the Scottish mainland. Gramarye Cottage is located in the rural crofting township of Peinachorran, tucked just below the road as the Peinachorran sign is passed, facing the stunning view out to the Isle of Raasay and the mainland beyond. Set within a mature terraced garden of a third of an acre the cottage has access through a garden gate to the shore line with a vista that ranges from the sandy beaches of An Aird, to the extinct volcano on Raasay, the wildness of Scalpay and the magnificence of the Red Cuillin. Portree, the largest town on the island, is only ten minutes by car offering supermarkets, two petrol stations, banks, shops and a Tourist Information Centre. From the road, a sweeping path of gradually descending broad steps leads to the front door of the cottage.

If you wish to book with us and you intend to invite your four legged friend for a holiday please let us know before booking. We welcome one small well behaved dog .

About the Owner

I share a love of adventurous outdoor activities and always want to try new things. I love mountain walking and have completed numerous long distance walks in Europe and the UK. A sea kayaking lesson at Plockton was a great day out on the water. Hector a small working cocker spaniel shares all the activities o Skye and even though he is the grand age of 12 he still acts like a puppy when his paws hit Skye soil. Hector's great love of Scotland is the rather abundant bog mud in which he tries to fully immerse himself at every available opportunity much to my absolute horror! Sadly the mud sticks to his fluffy coat and he is still wearing it three weeks later in Norfolk........

Beautiful cottage in stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed glorious weather on the Isle of Skye for the whole week that we stayed at this well equipped, pretty cottage in it's stunning location. Within easy reach of amenities at the town of Portee, yet in peaceful, lochside surroundings, the cottage offered the perfect retreat. Even in winter or or on wet and cold days, the cottage would have been a cosy delight, with it's two wood burners. Imagine returning from a blustery walk and snuggling in front of the fire on the comfy sofa with a good book (also supplied); or watching one of the dvd's while sipping a dram of Talisker Whisky! Pure heaven and highly recommended!

Gramarye Cottage Isle of Skye

  • 5 of 5

This holiday was well worth the the long drive from Bristol. After nearly 2 days traveling we were more than happy to arrive (motorways & dual carriageways stop at Glasgow!!). The drive through Glen Coe and Fort William is long but a holiday road trip in itself and not to be rushed as the scenery is fatastic. I have to say this is cottage is one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in, The views are amazing and so is the wildlife you can see in the bay (Dolphins, Birds & even an Otter). We found it had everything we needed for our stay. It is clean and well appointed and the welcome pack was very useful and a nice touch. It's not too far from Portree (about ten minutes drive), the single track road access with passing paces seems to be the norm on the island once you are off the main roads. One minor issue we found was the access from the cottage to the beach was a little overgrown and slippery in places, so take a little care. The pebble beach would have been great for a BBQ on a sunny day, which were a little few & far between the week we stayed. Fishing from the beach was a little hit & miss as there was alot of seaweed close into the shore. Skye itself is fantastic if you enjoy the outdoors, but don't go for the weather. If you dress for it (waterproofs and decent footware) you will be OK. We did the tourist things like the Fairy Pools, Old Man of Storr, Neist Point (even saw a whale) and a boat trip from Portree, which was good fun (white tailed eagles ans seals). There were alot of tourists at these locations but there are many quieter places to enjoy if you go off the beaten track a little (worth investing in a book of walks and a few maps). We booked for a week at Gramarye and could have done with two so we could see more of this great island. We will definately be going back sometime.

A lovely wee cottage with sea views.

  • 4 of 5

We have spent a week at this lovely cottage. It is situated by the waters edge with views across the sea to the Isle of Raasay. We found the cottage very cosy with all the things you expect to have with dishwasher and washing machine and a superb drier! The cottage is very secluded and has access to the beach. Lots of walks nearby. Lots to see just by sitting in the summer room with passing boats and you can see the small ferry as it goes across to Raasay which you can take either as a foot passenger or take your car. Portree is only 8 miles away and there is a good Co-op in Broadford. Overall we had a lovely stay and will return to beautiful Skye.

What a gem!

  • 5 of 5

A perfect cottage in a perfect setting, could not fault it, the best that I have ever stayed in. The cottage is well appointed and it was like home from home but a far better location!! Highly recommended. On top of that, the sun shone every day with no rain at all.

Stunning location

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. Situated about 8 miles outside Potree on a coastal, single track road. Real home from home with everything you would have in your own home. Dog friendly and even provided a bag with dog towel and poo bags! Two wood burning stoves, great for cosy nightsin, looking out across the sea to Raasay and beyond. Beautiful bedrooms and beds. A lot of effort has gone into this house to make it a special wee retreat for guests. Can't fault it in anyway and plan to come back next year.

Location

From the Owner

Gramarye Cottage was purchased in late 2011 because of a love of wild landscapes, outdoor activities, mountains and coastline and the Isle of Skye offers it all in abundance. The cottage is a trial run before moving to Skye permanently in the future. Skye and the Scottish Highlands offer an accessible remoteness and a scarcity of people on the hills. The variety of the landscapes across the Isle of Skye offer great opportunities to explore and enjoy a wide range of pursuits.

Facilities

From the Owner

The hardest part of a visit to the cottage is leaving at the end of every holiday! I love the sea and the mountains and the biggest attractions of the cottage are that it is 100 metres from the sea shore, offering views of the surrounding mountains from the garden, tranquil peace and quiet, yet it is only 10 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Portree . Walk out of the garden gate and down to the seashore, with views to the Isle of Raasay, the mainland beyond and across to the Red Cuillin. Follow the shore north and within 15 minutes walk reach the silver sands of the beach at An Aird or walk straight from the cottage up to Ben Lee and down the other side to the Sligachan Hotel for a quick pint and then back along the paths by the side of Loch Sligachan.
