Upside down barn delivers stunning views and tranquility

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of four with our children aged ten and nine. There was just the right amount of space in the top part of the barn for eating meals and relaxing on the sofas. The two bathrooms were spacious and well equipped, and the washing machine proved very useful. There is plenty of cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils. The lawn at the rear of the property is large enough for a game of rounders or kicking a rugby ball around. If that is insufficient, there is a sizeable paddock too. The owner of the neighbouring farm is very friendly and that family has lots of animals including pigs, turkeys, sheep and horses. If your child loves animals, you are in the right place. The Holywell Arms is a pub within 20 minute walking distance which does excellently priced food and superb beer. Wellington is the nearest town and it has an Asda and a Waitrose. So, according to your taste, you can stock up on essentials as well as wine and gin. There are many walks in the area but you will need an OS map of the area to be able to do this properly. Exmoor is within driving distance and that offers a multitude of hiking options as well as Dunster Castle. We had a lovely week during Whit half term and we are already talking about returning next year.

Unique

A pleasant short break in a rural area.

Dog friendly, with a fully secure garden for your four legged friend.

Philip is attentive, residing on the same road for any ad-hoc queries (if required).

Comfortable and clean accommodation, with shared access via Payton farm.

Please can I suggest a small 'Somerset' welcome pack for arrivals, for example: milk.

After a long car journey this would be greatly appreciated.

Our recent visit to San Francisco did this, so I am sure Wellington can too!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay. We agree milk in the fridge is a good idea as we already have tea, coffee and sugar in the cottage.

A wonderful relaxing place to stay, really enjoyed our short break and can't wait to return. Phil is always on hand if we needed anything and nothing was too much trouble.

A perfect getaway, with excellent hosts

  • 5 of 5

The Barn is a real home from home. It's spotlessly clean, very well furnished and Philip and Sarah, who live just across the road, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. A lot of care and attention has gone into those all important things: the beds are very comfortable, and the linen is the sort of quality you would buy yourself - none of that 'this will do, they're only renting' attitude one sometimes finds. The garden was absolutely perfect for our energetic young hound, and it really is fully escape proof. Philip's recommendations for pubs and shops were spot on - the local butcher and fishmonger in Wellington were sufficiently impressive that we cooked at home more than we might have normally done, but when we fancied going out to eat, his suggestion of the Martlet didn't disappoint. We didn't try the Holywell, because it was closed while we were there, but I'm sure that equally lives up to Philip's recommendation. We were well looked after, in an easy going way. It all felt very relaxed, and Philip and Sarah have got a great attitude to customer service. When we needed something, it was taken care of, but we were also left alone to enjoy our lovely little family break together. We'll be back.
