About the property

A stunning countryside hideaway on the Jurassic Coast. The perfect retreat for couples or a single person. Dogs welcome.

Camelia Cottage is set in the south facing grounds of Hill Farm, in the heart of the village of Morcombelake. Morcombelake borders the Golden Cap Estate which offers 25 miles of footpaths, boasting stunning, uninterrupted views of the sea and Lyme Bay. It is the ideal location for getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, to enjoy walks by the sea or explore the countryside. A few miles away is the bustling market town of Bridport and the historic cobb in Lyme Regis where you can savour delicious food served in a large variety of restaurants, pubs and traditional fish and chip shops throughout the area. West Dorset is steeped in history with a myriad of villages to discover from Abbotsbury to Beer and Branscombe. For the more energetic, try some of the coast path walks going further afield and getting a bus ride home. It is a fantastic place to run, mountain bike, sea swim and sail. Camelia Cottage is a secluded, cosy retreat, hidden away down 12 steps surrounded by a Camelia garden.

About Esther Fendall

My family and I moved to Morcombelake 17 years ago when my children were young. The house needed lots of work which we have done ourselves slowly throughout our time here. We have had horses, pigs, goats and chickens over the years but at the moment only have our dog, cat and a few sheep.

Camelia cottage was originally a beach chalet brought from Seatown beach in the 1950’s. It is set below the main farmhouse in a secluded position surrounded by Camelia’s. People are often surprised when they spot Camelia Cottage nestled into the hillside.

Esther Fendall purchased this chalet in 2015

Why Esther Fendall chose Whitchurch Canonicorum

Morcombelake is set in a great position to access the bustling seaside town of Lyme Regis and market town of Bridport and West Bay.

There are wonderful walks from the cottage through beautiful National Trust land to the coast path and down to the remote beach of St Gabriel’s for a swim. The cottage sits on Hardown Hill, just a ten-minute walk to the top and stunning 360-degree views of the Dorset coast and countryside.

Camelia Cottage is a lovely place for couples and a single person on their own.
