Charming Holiday Cottage With Large Sunny, Secure Patio And Garden

Overview

Property

Updated: 08-Nov-2016
Barn in East Boldre, New Forest, Hampshire, England - Tranquil Location With Direct Access To Forest And 3 Minute Drive To Local Beach

The Old Piggery is a true forest retreat set in a beautiful, peaceful 3 acre smallholding, with a large and pretty sunny aspect patio and garden which is secure and safe for young children, there is also a lovely tree house for the children. Children are always welcome to help the owners with feeding the animals. Located in the New Forest National Park near the village of East Boldre, we have direct access to the forest where free-roaming horses, cattle and donkeys regularly pop their head over the gate to say hello! It is the ideal base for couples or families to explore the New Forest either by bike, on foot, by car or just relax in the peaceful garden. We have the added benefit of being only 1.5 miles from the Solent Coastline, and 5 minute drive to the Georgian market town of Lymington, also within a short drive you can reach the forest villages of Beaulieu, Brockenhurst, Burley and Lyndhurst. We have two local pubs, each a 15 minute walk away, both serving fantastic food. You can reach the Isle of Wight by ferry which is only a 5 minute drive away.

About the Owner

Lisa & Cy have lived in the New Forest for most of their lives and look forward to welcoming our guests and are more than happy to share their knowledge of the forest. The Old Piggery sits within the 3 acre grounds of Coronation Cottage which for many years was an organic rare breed pig farm. We bought the property in 2007 and completed the renovation of The Old Piggery and decided to rent it out as a holiday cottage. We run a small holding with a few sheep and once a year 4 piglets arrive to raise for the freezer, we have chickens, 2 pygmy goats, 2 cats and a very quiet, friendly labrador, Skipper. A horse will turn up in the summer too! We will always encourage any children staying to help with collecting the eggs and feeding the goats and chickens!

What an amazing place to stay. Truly lovely hosts and accommodation. Thank you Lisa & Cy for your help and hospitality especially with advice on great walks. So nice to be surrounded by all the animals both inside the gates and out. Best accommodation and location ever experienced on holiday so far. Would love to return.. Jessie & Keith

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Old Piggery. Total peace and tranquility in the most beautiful part of the country... Carole & Eric

Many thanks for creating such a lovely environment that allowed us to enjoy a week of tranquility. The house has been really comfortable, your presence has been warm and welcoming, and the oak tree and all the birds and animals outside have been a delight. A real retreat! Thank you...Williams, Devon

Memorable family break

  • 4 of 5

With a couple of previous holidays in the New Forest, this time we decided to stay right over the other side in East Boldre. It proved to be a great location with a lovely peaceful cottage to return to after a days adventure and activities. Walking, cycling, beach trips and lovely country pubs, rounded off by the usual trip to Paultons Park which our son loved. Our 2 year old son also enjoyed waking up each morning and going to see the piglets and chickens. Having fresh eggs from the farm also made for a nice treat. The owners made our stay as comfortable as possible, finding the right balance between helping us with our basic needs and letting us have our privacy. One thing we found we missed slightly was the lack of washing machine, but probably mainly for the fact that our 2 year old was in the middle of potty training! Certainly somewhere we would highly recommend for a visit, and don't be scared by the possibility of poor weather as it wasn't great for us but the endless list of things to do meant it didn't stop us having a great time!!

Fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay here. The holiday cottage has everything you need and the location is excellent right in the heart of an unspoilt area of the new forest. We have two children (5 and 2) and they loved being able to feed the chickens and goats and playing in the garden. There were great walks from the cottage through the woods opposite. We had planned lots of days out but always seemed to end up coming back early to enjoy the cottage instead!

The owners were very welcoming and helpful and made our stay so enjoyable. Thank you, we look forward to returning!

Location

From the Owner

This area is particularly quiet and untouched by tourism but still easily accessible to the local towns and villages. The property sits away from the road down a gravel track across the forest so is exceptionally quiet but still has a village feel. We can walk straight from our front gate out into the forest which is amazing. We have two great local pubs within a couple of minutes drive which both serve fantastic food and a great local shop which sells pretty much everything!
