Our 3 bedroom; 2 terraced with 1 en-suite apartment, is situated in the centre of Tavira, a beautifully elegant town which has managed to stave off the influence of tourism. The apartment is approx 5 minutes walk from the Roman pedestrian bridge, over the river Gilão which is a great place to sit at one of the cafes and enjoy the very picturesque setting. Our apartment nestles between Cafe Venezuela & Restaurant Xico and opposite the Tavira Music Academy. If you enjoy shopping then it is walking distance to the Gran-Plaza shopping mall - it has a fantastic selection of shops, places to eat and cinemas as well as a large Continente supermarket.

My husband & I both work and live in England, but spend most of our holidays in Portugal where we have made many friends & have really fallen in love with Tavira & its hidden delights.

Ultimately, we love Tavira because of its rustic charm & fantastic beaches. The town is easily accessible with Faro airport approximately 35 mins drive away.

Why Bernie and Dan Cleary chose Tavira

Tavira is a unique experience, mainly because of all its Historical background and untouched archaeologic traces which manages to keep it as one of the most characteristic or rustic cities in the Algarve region. It has a mix of Roman, Arab and Christian historical heritage, which results in a centre with remains of castle walls, churches (37) and bridges from different eras. Put this together with fantastic beaches and the islands around Ria Formosa area, and you have a unique scenario likely to dazzle many-as it did us!

In what was the walled part of the city, remain winding narrow streets, not very different from the heart of most Algarve cities. Walking and sightseeing through them is very nice, although it's true that the area is not large and any walk will likely be brief.

What makes this apartment unique

The centre of Tavira is located on a river inlet about two kilometers from the coast, and beaches are located in the island just in front of it. As a result, huge uncrowded beaches are guaranteed, except in the months of July and August where they tend to be somewhat more sought after.

The only way to reach the beaches is ferry boat or water taxi that run between Tavira and the Island which is 11km long and varies between 1km and 150m width. The starting point for the ferry is located within 5-10 minutes walk from our Apartment and the river boat trip takes about 15 minutes.

This beach holds the blue flag, proof of its environmental quality and superiority with the provision of many restaurants and bars.

We stayed at the property at the end of January and found it perfect for our needs. The apartment is well maintained and has all the mod cons needed for a nice break. It is located within walking distance of the town centre with its selection of bars and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay immensely and would happily recommend it to others.

Nous avons séjourné une semaine dans l'appartement de Bernie et Dan à Tavira . L'appartement est fonctionnel ,spacieux , propre avec une vue agréable . A moins de 10 mn à pied, on trouve de nombreux restaurants . L'embarcadère pour les plages est à 15 mn à pied également . Nous avons toujours trouvé à nous garer près de l'appartement facilement.

Tavira est une charmante ville . Nous vous recommandons le lieu et l'appartement

Memorable stay in Tavira!

We stayed at Bernie & Dan's apartment for a week in July. It is ideally located with a 5 minute stroll to Bishop Square where you have your pick of places for eating/drinking to suit all tastes and budgets as well as local shops to peruse. We were fortunate enough to be here during festival week during which there were numerous live bands and artisan markets selling local produce and crafts. The apartment is also only a short walk from Porto Nova station and we ventured further afield on a couple of occasions via the local train service which was very reasonable price-wise. The apartment itself is very well equipped : cooker, fridge freezer, kettle/toaster, dishwasher, washing machine, iron etc. There is also wifi, tv, DVD and air conditioning so every need is covered!! The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated with local art and the balcony is large enough for a barbecue and

al-fresco dining/drinking. The only issue we had during our stay was a problem with the electricity supply on our arrival however the apartment manager was on hand and quickly resolved the matter within a couple of hours (it was a building rather than apartment fault) so it was really no inconvenience at all. All in all I cannot fault this place and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a lovely relaxing break in Portugal.

Fantastic apartment very close to central Tavira.

The apartment was extremely clean, well equipped with everything provided that you could wish for. Kate the local contact and her husband were so helpful with nothing being too much trouble. We had a wonderful stay for 7 weeks, felt like we were at home. The location was fantastic with all facilities, restaurants, cafes etc as well as the centre of Tavira being so close. The owner Bernadette was so easy to talk too and responded to our queries very quickly. Thank you for a wonderful stay and we look forward to staying with you in future years.

Excellent position in Tavira

Exactly accurate regarding location,layout and facilities.

Owner and manager very friendly and helpful .

Had small problem with washing machine not functioning but although Christmas period quickly had new replacement installed.

Nice welcoming gift of personalised bottle of port.

All beaches have the converted EEC blue flag safe with small tides where you can walk, swim or just relax. Boasting one of the warmest temperatures in the Algarve. Tavira island and Barril beach can be reached by a ferry/aqua taxi within a few minutes walk of the apartment.

Changeover Day:
Change over day is flexible. Arrival time is normally 4pm and departure time is normally 10am, however this can be flexible on agreement with Apartment Manager.

Where you wish to avail of either the heating or air-conditioning; a nominal fee of €7.00 or £6.00 per day will be charged and remote controls & instructions will be provided.

Note: for stays of a period longer than 15 days discounted prices may be negotiated.

  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
