Villa in Bang Kao, south Koh Samui, set in tropical gardens, 12m private pool and just 5 mins walk to deserted beach

A unique 4 bedroom traditional, tropical style family home, constructed with extensive use of hardwoods throughout and secluded in beautiful gardens offering both sunny and shaded areas. Located on the south coast of the island in a quiet and unspoilt rural area, close to the old village of Bang Kao, 250m short walk (5 mins) to a deserted beach on Bang Kao bay, 25km (30 mins) from the airport, and only a short drive to many local shops, fresh markets and restaurants. The property was designed and built by the owners, who have lived in it as a permanent family residence since 2005. It is furnished tastefully throughout in keeping with the style using mostly teak items. Kitchen & bathroom appliances are "western" standard. Entry to the main house from the road is via a 40m gravel driveway, and then from the front terrace through wide folding glass doors leading directly into the living area. Main house ground floor: Living area is spacious (61 sqm) and open plan, with hardwood floors and ceilings, multiple folding door/window units opening onto wide covered terraces with wood ceilings. We, the owners, are Edward & Paphawadi Norton - a retired Englishman and his thai wife.

This property was designed and built by us as our family home and we have lived here since it was completed in 2005. Therefore it has been continuously maintained and enhanced over a 12 year period.

It is special place, with a calming & relaxing feeling that our friends, family and visitors all comment on when staying with us. You will surely feel it too, and maybe even be able to take some of it away with you.

Why Edward Norton chose Laem Sor Beach

We have lived in this area of Samui since 2002 when we bought land here. The south coast remains largely unspoilt compared to the east and north coasts which are more heavily developed - Lamai, Chaweng, Bophut, Maenam.

Here the Thai village way of life goes on much as as it has always done, and the Thai families are welcoming to visitors. Stop and try to communicate - its fun and rewarding!

Drop in to the Buddhist temple & monastery at Laem Sor - you will be welcomed there too. And that will be an experience to remember.

If sometimes you feel the need for some more energetic night-life, then Lamai Beach is only 7 km away.

So truly the best of all worlds is close at hand.

Magnificent traditional Thai house set in lovely landscaped gardens. This house is very spacious and airy with a superb swimming pool and outside bar area that has a pool table. Great for family holidays. The house is located in a very quiet and still unspoilt area of the island, but is within easy reach of some of the main tourist resorts, shopping and night life. Lamai has a fabulous beach and is about 8km away - 15 mins drive.

The owners are really friendly and knowledgable about the island. They will take calls anytime or come round to help if needed. They provided a great service during our stay, which included arranging a local 5-star chef to cook us a number of amazing meals at the house.... Fantastic.

If you are looking for a Koh Samui holiday house with a real feel of traditional Thailand, but with a comfortable twist, look no further. We had an amazing time and the pool table was a real winner with the family… Full marks from us. Highly recommended.

Exceptional vacation with family on Koh Samui

Wonderful spacious house with many lovely details. Great pool. My family (4 adults and 4 children) spent a wonderful week. House has all amenities one needs. Nice and quiet.

The landlord was very caring and helped us organize rental cars and bikes which gave us the ability to explore the beatiful island. We even had a chef cook come in and prepare us a wonderful dinner. The stay was worth every penny we spent.

Amazing Place

We have been going to Koh Samui for many years and just love it there. However, for the first time we really did find our home away from home!. Edward was as kind and generous as others have already explained, but he is a really honest and helpful guy who's sole aim is to make your stay at his villa as pleasant and as enjoyable as he can. He 'cares' that you have a great time and that makes a big difference.

The house itself was as seen in the pictures, which was a pleasant surprise, having stayed in many places they always look far better on the web than in real life!

Nearby are a few bars and a very nice restaurant - you do need transport in my view but this is neither expensive nor stressful - nearby shops are just a few minutes on wheels and about 15mins on foot.

Pro's - Too many to list really, gorgeous and spacious villa, great pool with a really nice bar area in the garden to chill out and play some pool. A few very nice beach bars/restaurants close by and certainly walkable from the house.

Cons; Very hard to put something here, if I was being critical I'd say that the house is a little bit out of the way and requiring transport moped/car to get around - but this is only really a negative if you want to be staying in the heart of a bustling town with lots of noise and action - for us staying out of town and going in was better than being based there.

We will most definitely return, and will hopefully stay for longer next time!

Stunning Traditional Villa

We arrived on the beautiful Koh Samui 36hrs late at 9pm due to flight problems. We were picked up promptly by a driver organised by Edward. Arrived in the dark and 'crotchety' that changed when we saw the villa, grounds all illuminated - Stunning.

Edward was there to show us around and even take us to the local shop to purchase some much needed beer.

He had provided a good welcome pack with Milk, Tea, Bread etc. he explained the workings of the Villa and offered to return the next day to provide more info on the local amenities which we accepted. He was great to talk to, full of information and a true gent.

As can be seen in the pictures the Villa is lovely, great living areas, both inside and out, and great pool and the addition of an outside Sala with Pool table, bar, etc. Edwards explained this used to be a restaurant he ran with his wife until recently. It is equipped with its own fridge, music system etc. and we spent many hours late in the evening playing pool with the children.

We have three teenage children 15,15 and 16 and they thoroughly enjoyed the time spent here as there was plenty to keep them occupied as well as the obligatory Wi-Fi which was of good quality. TV if you wish had loads of channels. The Villa was spotlessly clean and equipped/maintained.

The location as described it is a short walk to the beach at Bank Kao where there is one bar/restaurant. This time of year it is not suitable for swimming but is still nice to sit with a snack/drink.

I would recommend hiring a car to really enjoy the area. Edward arranged for one to be delivered it was very reasonable cost, a good size that comfortable sat 5 six foot people.

With a car there are plenty of nearby places to eat (within 10mins). One place with a choice of eateries is Thong Krut. again this time of year the beach was no good for swimming but eating, watching the world go by with small boats going in and out was lovely.

If you require a full on activities beach then Lamai (about 20mins) is perfect. It has beachside restaurants that provide beds and towels, the food was not much more expensive and was great we spent a number of days there before escaping to the Villa and pool for the evening.

A great Villa fully recommended especially for a large family. The only slight drawback is some building work ongoing next door but it is not bad, they finish by 4pm - did not effect us at all.

Have never been to Koh Samui before don't normally return to places but will this time.

5 mins walk (250m) to deserted white sand beach on Bang Kao bay. Shallow water inside reef, great for small children. Nearest beach with full deep water (not suitable small children) 6-8km at Lamai Beach. All beaches are open to public - no private beaches by law!


Samui airport is 25km distance with direct flights to/from Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur. Guest pick-up/drop-off service provided.

Car/passenger ferries to/from mainland every hour from Nathon & Lipa Noi. Numerous ferries to neighbouring islands.

Local moped/jeep/car rental available and can be arranged for our guests. Recommended for island exploring, shopping, dining trips.


Everything on Samui is within 25 km drive! Locally there are many restaurants, small shops, fresh markets within a few km drive from the property. The closest are easy walking distance.

We will advise guests on places of interest to suit their needs, and assist in making any reservations required. These might include - boat trips to outlying islands with snorkelling, waterfalls, elephant treks, Buddhist temple visits, restaurant dinner trips and more.

Further Details:

Smaller local shops, restaurants and markets do not take credit cards - a reasonable amount of cash should be on hand. There are many ATM's and exchange offices of Thai banks and most of these will give cash on overseas Debit or Credit cards.
