Recently refurbished and offering spacious and interesting accommodation for either two families or large parties of friends to enjoy. The Old Barn is ideally situated for a number of pursuits including walking, bird watching, beach activities, or as a base from which to explore all that the North Norfolk Coast has to offer. Only 2 miles from Thornham in one direction or Hunstanton in the other and 8 miles from Burnham Market.

About David Johnson

We are a young family and purchased the The Old Barn, Holme, in 2006. We carried out a completed refurbishment and modernisation and continue to make little changes here and there every year. We live near Stamford and travel regularly to The Old Barn to escape work and immerse ourselves in the sheer beauty of all that the North Norfolk coast has to offer.

In 2007 we also bought two properties next to the beach at South Beach, Heacham. We thought these would be perfect for our children to grow up around and play by the beach in the traditional way.

Why David Johnson chose Holme-next-the-Sea

We scoured properties for sale from Heacham to Wells, but The Old Barn stood out as having so much light and airy space and a large enclosed garden, that made not buying it very difficult indeed. It is superbly located for children's activities as well as those for adults. The estate agents words to us were 'don't go too far round the coast, as this area is where all the action is.' SOLD!

What makes this barn unique

The Old Barn has four generous bedrooms and enough showers and wc's that two families can share without getting in each others way. But the best bit for us is the huge living spaces and the lovely log burner. As soon as we unpack we walk to the beach for some sea air and then stop off at the local pub on the way back for a real ale. Perfect.

Notes on accommodation: The barn is believed to be about 350 years old and is full of character. Outside: Large garden with lawned areas, terrace, decked area, BBQ, garden furniture, and parking for several cars. Utility Room: Downstairs cloakroom containing washing machine and tumble drier. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, bed linen and T towels are provided. The property is cleaned and towels, linen changed weekly. Other: Dining hall comfortably seating 10 on leather chairs with views south over the garden. Leading from the living room and sharing the log burning stove is a delightful oak garden room with doors onto the terrace.

We will be rebooking this lovely barn for our next long weekend away. It ticks all the boxes: comfortable, warm, well equipped and perfectly located for walks and birdwatching. David, the host, goes the extra mile to ensure that you have a great stay. We will be back!

Beautifully renovated cottage ,and very comfortable. A lovely area , perfect for dog walking and easy access to a superb beach. Lots of nice places to eat and a nearby farm shop. Would definitely recommend.

Wonderful spacious holiday home, top notch!

The Old barn is indeed old but has been renovated to a high standard. It is very spacious with 2 lounges a good sized kitchen and great dining area. I especially liked the garden room and the Bond photos in the dining room. Our family consisted of a family of 4, a grandmother and an Uncle. We had lots of space inside and made use of the side garden almost everyday.

The home had everything we needed and I can't think of anything it is lacking.

It is on a main road located within walking distance of the beach (sandy) and The White Horse pub (recommended). There is a farm shop a short drive away (2 mins turning left out the drive) with all the essentials and a lot of luxuries. In the same place there is a Fish & Chip restaurant & takeaway, plus a fishmongers and a few other shops. All recommended.

Big thanks to the owners from a very pleased family.

Comfortable, warm and spacious accommodation.

This was our second visit to The Old Barn. It is perfectly situated for the beach, birdwatching and walks straight from the door. The accommodation is very comfortable, with more than adequate seating and a beautiful light conservatory. The garden has a suntrap so we were sitting outside enjoying tea and cake at 6pm! The kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need to self cater although there are many excellent eateries nearby. We have already booked to return in the Autumn!
