About the property

House in Whitby, North Yorkshire Moors, Yorkshire, England - The Property Is Close To Shops And Amenities With A Short Walk To The Harbour, Promenade And Beach

A luxurious extremely spacious townhouse on the prestigious St Hildas Terrace. This Georgian Grade II listed property was built in 1750 to accommodate the family of a sea faring captain. It has recently undergone renovation and retains many of the original features. The house has been furnished to a very high standard to give luxury accommodation that has just been awarded Five Star Gold Standard by Visit England. The House is arranged over five floors, the kitchen and dining room situated in the basement overlooking the garden. The drawing room and television room are on the ground floor. Six large double bedrooms, three bathrooms and a shower room take up the top three floors. Families to a maximum of twelve adults and two children can be accommodated comfortably, or a combination of adults and children to a maximum of fourteen. Outside to the front of the property there is a large south facing landscaped garden with bench seating and access across the road to Pannett Park and Whitby Museum. To the rear of the property there is a courtyard which is the main access route in to the house. There is also a single garage and a parking space to the rear of the property with other parking close by. The property is centrally located on the west side of Whitby, overlooking the lovely Pannett Park and the North Yorkshire Moors on the skyline. The house is close to shops, cafes and restaurants with a short walk to the harbour, promenade and beach. All in all this is a stunning family house, which is ideal for holidaying together in Whitby on the edge of North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

About Stuart Haines

My wife Karen and I have been frequent visitors to Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors and we intend to settle here in the next few years. We love staying in our house and use it whenever it is available! We hope you will love our house the way we do and enjoy the beautiful surrounding Town, Coast and Moors.

Why Stuart Haines chose Yorkshire Moors and Coast

Initially we were searching for a property to let in the North Yorkshire Region. We were on holiday locally and spotted 18 St. Hilda’s Terrace was for sale. On viewing the property we loved it and we saw the potential the house had to offer.

We felt the layout of the property and large rooms lent itself to modern living and easily allows for twelve people to stay comfortably and still enjoy the space.

The property is located in central Whitby overlooking Pannett Park, with glimpses of the Abbey, the harbour and fantastic views of the moors. The picturesque town of Whitby has remained unspoiled yet offers something for everyone all year round.

What makes this house unique

The house is a Grade II* listed Georgian property. We are one of a selected number in the area that has attained the Visit England Five Star Gold standard, of which we are very proud.

Whitby is busy all year round and as an historic town has limited parking. At the rear of the property there is a single garage, on street parking for one vehicle and a public car park 100 meters further along the terrace.

The great location places the house within 10 minutes walking distance of the beach, the harbour and the main high street. At the end of the terrace, less than a 5 minute walk, is Skinner Street with numerous cafes, bars, restaurants and independent shops.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Jude and Family, Southampton. A "breathtaking house" 199 steps up to the Abbey but its worth it! Fantastic beach, great fish and chips. A wonderful week.

Sandra, Mike and family August 2014. A great house superb for all our smalls. Everything within walking distance, ideal.

The Barker and Lewitt families London, September 2014.

"Aged 19 to 79. We had a lovely family time with amazing weather. We have thoroughly enjoyed seafood, cafes (Rusty Shears on Silver Street very good),

spectacular scenery, welcoming harbours, colourful moors, steam railway..... "

A warm Whitby welcome

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful venue for our annual family gathering. Central location is within walking distance of the park, museums, beach, harbour and station (enjoyed a great day out on steam train to Heartbeat country). Unexpected highlight was a trip on the Whitby tour bus with Alison (be quick she retires soon). St Hilda's is very well maintained, managed and equipped. Access to parking an absolute bonus during the busy holiday season. Four generations enjoyed meals together in the dining kitchen and had ample space to relax after a busy day sight seeing. The warm welcome from Karen and Stuart (and fabulous cake) much appreciated!

Family Summer Holiday

  • 5 of 5

18 St Hilda's Terrace was such a beautiful and elegant property. We had a fabulous stay in Whitby. We would definitely stay here again for holidays. The listing of the property was very accurate and the location was ideal for walking into Whitby and down to the harbour/sea front, although up hill on the way home. Just across from the house is a lovely park with an amazing playground which kept our children entertained on numerous occasions. The owners of the property were very polite and friendly even personally welcoming us on arrival to show us around. I would definitely recommend this property to friends. The only negative that we struggled with was my parents and the stairs, however perfectly fine for the able. I certainly worked off some of the beautiful cream teas and seafront chips running up and down the stairs.

A Wonderful Luxury Property

  • 5 of 5

This property is amazing and just what we were looking for. The refurbishment is tastefully done, the decoration, soft furnishings, garden and attention to detail is a credit to the owners. I think we spent most of the time in the kitchen.

Please thank your lovely daughter for the check in which proved to be very helpful especially with the parking and layout of the property. Everything was catered for.

I must admit I don't generally go out of my way to write reviews but we are very happy to do so. Whitby was really good too with lots to do.

Apologies for the delay in sending our appreciation but we have just been so so busy lately.

I am certain we will be back very soon, and a big thank you!

Lloyd

Owner's Response: St Hilda's is also our family holiday home and we all enjoy meeting our guests at the house at the start of their stay. It is a big old house and we want to make sure that our guests are familiar with the house and have an opportunity to ask any questions.

BEST HOUSE IN A DECADE!

  • 5 of 5

Two families descended on Whitby for our tenth New Year break in a row. We've stayed in some lovely properties in Wales, Cumbria, Northumberland, and the Scottish borders. But 18 St Hilda's is the nicest one yet. Great big house yet cosy and snug. Lovely period features with modern appliances, a huge tv and great wifi. Tastefully decorated throughout. And it's slap bang in the middle of Whitby. Cracking house.

We had a wonderful weekend at st Hilda's terrace. The house is amazing with beautiful decor and furnishings throughout. We stayed for our daughters 30th birthday with friends and family and we had plenty of space for everyone. The house is equipped with everything you could possibly need. The location is superb just 3 min walk and your in the hustle and bustle of Whitby. I can't recommend this house enough and we will definitely be returning .

Fabulous, imposing, wonderfully presented house.

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautifully presented and well equipped. The layout of the property suited us, providing different areas for each of us to do our own activities and with plenty of space for us to dine together and play games in the lounge area. As a large family we enjoy cooking and eating together, in terms of equipment and dinnerware, there was nothing we couldn't find. The bedrooms were beautifully presented and the whole house was heated adequately. The close proximity to town was excellent, we walked over a disused railway track which is close to the house to Robin Hoods Bay. My 12 year old nephew has voted that we ditch our annual Center Parcs pre Christmas break next year and return to St Hildas.....seems we will be back!
