About the Owner
Andy, Sue, their 2 children and pet spaniel all live at Yates House in Nidderdale. Though we are not farmers, we love the rural life and are surrounded by beautiful farm land and moor. Yates Cottage sits in our grounds, overlooking pasture, a small lake and the valley beyond. We take great pride in welcoming guests to both our cottage, but as importantly the surrounding area, which really holds something for everyone. When guests come to Yates cottage, we will do what we can to help them have a great holiday.

Lovely cottage, lovely place , lovely owners
The property was immaculately clean and very well equipped. Although it is very modern inside the location and surroundings make it feel homely in true Yorkshire tradition. Andy and Sue are great hosts and very giving of their time and knowledge of the area. The welcome pack they supply is first class. Yorkshire has so much to offer and the cottage is well placed to take advantage of it, but conversely if you want a quiet bolthole at the end of a busy day this is it. We hope to be back and this time to find our ideal bolthole too!
The perfect getaway -
The property is in an ideal landscape, well equipped, clean and spacious. A wonderful welcome hamper and everything for the first meal, The manager kindly showed us round and was very helpful. It was a home from home experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Excellent restaurants nearby and plenty to visit in the area.
Child-friendly, lovely property, outstanding hosts
We have just returned from a fabulous week at Yates Cottage and are sorry to be home! Booking was trouble-free and communication was excellent. We arrived to find an extremely generous welcome hamper full of goodies that kept us going throughout the week and were delighted to see that the cottage even surpassed the photos. It was spotlessly clean, cosy and comfortable but surprisingly spacious. The hosts were extremely considerate of the fact that we were bringing our two young children and had provided thoughtful extras such as a bed-guard, toilet step and even children's bedding, which our boys were very excited about! (Other items were also offered but not needed). The location is extremely quiet and peaceful (especially with no phone signal or wi-fi) and the surrounding countryside is absolutely beautiful for miles around, so it was easy to relax, completely switch off and enjoy ourselves. Having said that, there was also plenty to do within a one-hour car journey and we had some super days out. We would certainly be keen to visit both the area and the property again and would have no hesitation in recommending Yates Cottage to others; it is a superb property in a stunning location with outstanding hosts.
Disabled friendly cottage
It was our first time we stayed at Yates Cottage, it is a disabled friendly place, which is what we were looking for as we had a wheelchair with us the outside and the surroundings were all flat for a wheelchair use.
There is a lot of space in the cottage to walk around, all the rooms were nice and spacious, the bathroom was not wide enough to take the wheelchair in but we managed fine, we would definately come to yates cottage again.
Sue and Andy were extremely friendly and a nice family, they helped us out a lot and were there for us if we needed anything.
I would recommend this place for anyone it is worth it, nice quiet place to stay at.
Thank You for everything it is appreciated.
Love this place!
This is our third stay at Yates Cottage - we love it here. Sue and Andy are always so helpful and welcoming, this time they made recommendations for a birthday lunch reservation, which was great! Everything was superb, and the hamper is always a lovely welcoming arrival. We stayed with my parents and our 3 year old, who always has fun with the toys / games / DVDs and watching the animals. This time we took his scooter and he had hours of fun going up and down the drive and around the cottage! The weather wasn't so good this time but still relaxing and overall just fab! Thanks again Sue and Andy.
Relaxing 5 Star Easter Break
A beautifully furnished cottage that offered us a very peaceful Easter break. The welcome pack was full of thoughtfully chosen local goodies. The beds were very comfortable with high quality bedding. The peace and quiet were calming and we went on a few local walks across the fields to admire the Yorkshire scenery. With no mobile signal or wifi, we made the most of no external interruptions to our evenings and had great fun playing games, warm and cosy with the log burner. We explored Harrogate and Ripon but Ilkley was our favourite place. We had such a great time, I've told all my friends and family about this fabulous retreat.
From the Owner
“The cottage started life as a stable, being part of the original farm which dates back to the 1750's. Over the years, various owners have developed the stable into a single storey 2 bedroomed home. After we moved to Yates House in 2008, we decided to fully refurbish the cottage as a dedicated holiday let and the work was completed in 2011.”
