Overview

Property

Updated: 28-Oct-2016
Cottage in Saltfleet, Nr. Louth, Lincolnshire, England - Peaceful location only 2 minutes walk from the coast offering walks over marshland and a sandy bay

Beach Cottage is a pretty coastal cottage located in a quiet and peaceful private road only yards from the Lincolnshire coast. The coastal theme used in decor throughout the property provides a tranquil and restful environment in which to enjoy a relaxing break. The property offers two bedrooms and accommodates up to three people. There is a private and enclosed rear garden, which can be viewed through French doors from the lounge/diner. A table and four chairs is provided for outdoor eating. The cottage offers a multi-fuel log burning stove and background heating via electric storage heaters. Parking for up to three vehicles is available to the front of the property. Electricity is provided via a pre-payment metre. Top-up facilities for electricity are available from a general provisions store in the near-by village of North Somercotes. Facilities available in the pretty village of Saltfleet itself includes two public houses, a general store/garage as well as churches and other points of interest. Saltfleet itself is located on the Lincolnshire coast approximately 15 minutes from the pretty and historical market town of Louth - well worth a visit. Slightly further afield is the popular holiday resort of Cleethorpes - a seaside town offering seaside activities, coastal walks as well as pretty shops, cafes and restaurants. To the south of Saltfleet, is the seaside town of Mablethorpe - a lively and popular holiday destination - and the popular village of Horncastle, with it's plethora of antique shops is only approximately 30 minutes drive away. Visitors to the cottage can take advantage of the opportunity to visit the Donna Nook Nature Reserve which provides a birthing ground to thousands of grey seal pups each year (October - December). As well as seeing the seals and their pups, there is also an opportunity to take a coastal walk through the nature reserve which hosts a variety of wild birds regularly seen in coastal locations. Donna Nook Nature Reserve is approximately 2 miles away.

About the Owner

I purchased this cottage so that I could enjoy somewhere to visit and enjoy holidays and weekends by the sea. Working full time in Sheffield, the cottage offers a peaceful retreat close to the coast in a tranquil part of Lincolnshire. I hope you enjoy staying there as much as I do.

a beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

the cottage was very well presented, and very comfy. The location is very close to Saltfleet Beach which was ideal for our dog walks. It is well maintained and very clean. The owner replied to all my emails and provided a very good customer service and even when I notified her on the day that my son had decided to come down she was ok about this and thanked me for letting her know. There were plenty of books, games and dvd's to keep us occupied during the evening and when that wasn't enough the local pubs are a short walk down the road into the village. The only thing negative was there wasn't a mop but other than that it was like home from home a credit to its owner

Owner's Response: Hello Hilary Thank you so very much for writing such a lovely review. I was going to get in touch with you to thank you for leaving my cottage in such a lovely condition - it hardly looked used. I'm really glad you enjoyed your break. I'm working out a way of getting and storing a mop somewhere - the cottage has very little storage space but I really appreciate such constructive feedback and want to address it. Thanks again for booking my cottage and for providing such a lovely review. Chris

Lovely, well decorated little cottage

  • 4 of 5

I thought this cottage was well decorated and welcoming with lovely decor and a secure back garden for our elderly Westie with a gate onto the lane at the back, ideal for dog walking and close to the beach in Saltfleet.

The only downside, we thought, was that the weather was rather cold for May and the background heating was not sufficient to heat the cottage adequately. Also, there wasn't enough hot water for a bath or shower. I would have preferred a gas fire instead of the log burner as we didn't feel we were staying long enough to bother to light this.

Other than this, we enjoyed our stay and will probably visit again in the future

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review Rosalind - I really appreciate it. For info - I have already arranged for an additional heater to be installed in the living area of the cottage during the autumn. Unfortunately, the area is not serviced with mains gas, therefore the log burner - which most guests enjoy using - cannot be converted to gas. Regarding the provision of hot water, there is limited space for a large hot water storage unit, however, as the cottage has an electric shower over the bath, unless you were unfortunate enough to experience a power cut, there should have been an adequate supply of hot water for your showers. I'm glad you liked the decor - I have tried to make the cottage as homely and as possible - and yes, I fully agree with your comments regarding location - I take my dog to the cottage frequently and she loves the walks on the coast. Once again - thank you for taking the time to write a review.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

Great location close to the dunes & sea. Mablethorpe a short drive away, fish & chips walking distance, good local shop for logs & necessities! Garden was great for our dogs- enclosed & large, sunny & relaxing after a day on the beach! Accommodation was well presented, we enjoyed the log fire on an evening. We would recommend & return.

Fantastic cottage

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic little cottage, beautifully presented with new fitted kitchen and wood burning fire. It has everything you could wish for and more. Great location for nearby seaside, lovely walks, the garden is bigger than myown and very private, and great pub and the end of the road serving home cook food.

Owner's Response: Thank you for writing such a lovely review! I have tried to make my cottage as comfortable as possible and attempted to create an interesting but equally 'home from home' environment. I'm really pleased that the feedback I've received so far confirms that I have achieved what I set out to. Thank you again for your lovely comments!

Beach cottage

  • 5 of 5

A lovely cottage that made us feel so at home. The quiet setting and access to the sea front was an absolute winner, especially for dog walkers. We loved the layout and light colours that made summer feel inside as well as outside.

The real log fire made the evenings cosy and warm! We will definitely return this year!

Humberside Airport is approximately 45 minutes drive from the property. Though not essential, use of a car would provide visitors with the opportunity to tour the area. The city of Kingston-upon-Hull, from where ferry crossings to Zeebrugge operate, is approximately 1.25 hours drive away.
