Villa in Douro Valley - Peaceful Location, 12 Mins Drive To The Village (Alijó)

This 2 bedroom villa sits in the Douro Valley amid a stunning panoramic view of the Douro River and surrounding vineyards. The private villa is spacious, well lit and furnished with comfortable seating in the living and dining area. The kitchen is fully-fitted .There is a bathroom provided with shower. Heating and air conditioning, satellite TV, CD player, DVD, and wireless internet are also included. Main door lead to a large terrace, equipped with table, chairs and BBQ: great for outdoor dining. Your holiday villa resides in the Portuguese wine region declared a World Heritage Site in 2001.

Even in February March April and October , November the temperature is very warm and there are lots of shinning days

I live in Oporto , I have a Civil Engineer degree and I have worked several years abroad .

I have really fallen in love with the Douro valley

Why Jose chose North Portugal

I love Foz Tua because of the fantastic river and vineyards landscapes in the area. The area is easily accessible with Oporto airport less than an hour and half drive away.

What makes this villa unique

The property is just 5 minutes walk from two good restaurants in the village. If you are looking for great food in the comfort of the apartment, we can also recommend local caterers who can provide delicious evening meals at reasonable prices. Just ask for information when booking.

A beautiful place

An idyllic setting on the banks of the lovely Douro, a comfortable villa with a good private pool and beautiful garden: breakfast in the shade of the huge fig tree, looking over the Douro and the sun-bathed hills of its south bank is something I shall miss! Jose is an engaging, friendly and helpful owner.

A car is essential, not least because the nearest decent food shopping is a 30 - minute drive away, and the nearest restaurant (English spoken, cheap, huge portions) is a somewhat scary walk across the railway bridge. Trains go past the door, but at only 5 a day each way are little disturbance. We will definitely go back!

A special place on the River Douro

This is an excellent place to stay if you are looking for calm and tranquility in a stunning environment. Buy in enough provisions to spend the days sitting around the pool watching river cruises and other boats travel up and down the Douro. You can get a real feel for the Port vinyards with early morning walks. A 20 minute stroll up the local hills will give you stunning views of the terraced vines and the River Douro below.

Every couple of hours trains pass behind the house and on Saturdays there is even a steam train. We headed down the valley by train to Pinhao and returned back to Tua by boat. We had to cross the railway bridge to get back to the house which was a bit of an experience for us, but locals do it all the time.

We had a great week and thoroughly recommend a stay here!

A magical week

Our stay in Jose's beautiful house was really, truly magnificent. The house is located perfectly: nice and secluded, with unparalleled views of the river and the beautiful mountains. Our children really enjoyed being able to cool down in the pool, and we all enjoyed the peace and quiet so we could relax, read and spend some quality time together.

The house was great, and Jose was extremely helpful and friendly- we really enjoyed getting to meet up with him again in Porto after our stay at the house in Douro.

Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a great holiday in the North of Portugal.

Jose’s detached, secluded, riverside villa is idyllic and relaxing. Very comfortable, clean, inviting alfresco facilities, seasonal garden fresh fruits and picturesque river valley views.

The adjacent railway track is not only a quaint reminder of bygone days; the local train 5 times a day adds charm to this tranquil property. Journeys east and west offer stunning riverside scenery, amidst the rustic backdrop of many working Qunitas’. The villa’s river outlook on regular passing boats is another added attraction.

Car or train transfer from Porto makes Foz Tua very accessible, good shopping amenities at Alijo 12kms by car or Pinhao a short train journey west. Jose is an extremely pleasant helpful host.

A lovely spot for seeing the real Portugal

The Villa was in a lovely location with a wonderful pool overlooking the Douro river. We ate fresh figs and oranges every day from the garden.

The nearest town/supermarket is about 15km away on a typical windy road and is easy to get to. We flew into Porto and had a straight forward journey to find the villa.

it is located next to the railway track and from 8am till 8pm there is a train every two hours. My 6 year old son loved it and when he heard it coming he would run to the top and wave frantically hoping to get the driver to blow the horn.

The construction of the dam was actually very interesting, and again my son loved watching them. The noise was not intrusive and the construction is almost finished so will not be a problem in the future.

We do recommend you catch the train from Foz Tua to Pinhao before getting a return trip on a boat! Check train timetables online as they don't seem to be consistent.

the local restaurant opposite the train station is excellent value and the portions are huge. They speak English which helped.

Jose was on hand and provided help when needed. It was the school holiday and Jose, his Wife and Granddaughter stayed in the apartment below for a few days. My son really enjoyed playing in the pool with their granddaughter despite the language barrier. Jose and his wife were really hospitable.

Outside: Private walled garden. Lawns with fruit and olive trees. Private Swimming pool (10 meters x 4 meters) and garden furniture. The terrace runs in front of the Douro river with outdoor dinning area with stunning view facing the river and the pool. There is a parking area for two cars. Due to the characteristics of the surroundings, the house has some restrictions and demand some attention for children and people with limited mobility. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen, tea-towels and bath towels are available as well as pool towels. Unless advised to the contrary there will be no cleaning during your stay.
