About the property

Countryside Views And Short Walk To Village

Ideally located at the edge of the village but with a countryside feel with all rooms with large windows overlooking the Dropt valley. The house benefits from a large open plan living/ding area which opens out onto the gardens and pool where there are all the facilities you need to enjoy a summer's day including a cloakroom for changing. There is another open plan living/dining area at the top of the house which opens onto the top garden with the magnificent château backdrop and a path leading to the centre of the village. The house itself provides a relatively cooling respite from the outdoor suntrap for those who need it.

About John and Karen Pooley

We currently live in Wiltshire, England and are lucky enough to own this lovely house where we like to spend as much time as we can. During periods when we can't be there we rent on a weekly basis and hope that others will enjoy it as much as we have.

John and Karen Pooley purchased this house in 2003

Why John and Karen Pooley chose Lot-et-Garonne

We enjoy the idyllic peacefulness of our house snuggled against the hill below the town of Duras and also being able to stroll into the town to partake in the delights of the restaurants, bars and markets.

What makes this house unique

South facing windows look out for miles across the beautiful countryside which provides a network of quiet roads perfect for cycling, rivers for canoeing and woods and country paths for strolling along. If you prefer a more lively milieu, a 4 minute walk along a path at the foot of the castle takes you from a peaceful setting to the gentle hustle and bustle of the town of Duras where the boulangerie has fresh pastries made on the premises, the tabac has daily newspapers and the three cafe bars have plenty of outside seating. Wander up to the Monday morning market, taste the delights of the French cuisine at the Thursday evening night market when the centre of town becomes a sea of trestle tables and you can sit as near to/far from the live music as you want.

An amazing house in a unique setting

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week this summer with 2 sets of friends. This is the best located house we have ever rented - sitting in the garden watching the castle lit up at night was amazing. We loved being able to pop out of the garden and be in the centre of the town within minutes. There is lots of space with 2 kitchens and 2 living areas and all rooms have ensuite facilities which is great. The downstairs living area is perfect if you have kids as it is right near the pool so you can pop in and out for drinks etc. The views from all rooms are spectacular and despite being in a small town it is very quiet. My only point would be there are quite a lot of stairs as the accommodation is over 3 floors which may not be ideal if you have very young children (ours were all 5+) or elderly members of the group. However, we would recommend this house as we had a great fun week.
