The Old Vicarage is a fantastic holiday house with an emphasis on that "home" feel- we live here the whole year and only rent it out in the school holidays. For 2018 we now have a wood burner in the dining room.
The mixture of period features, hand picked antiques and modern touches hopefully make the Old Vicarage a unique experience. You have the option of either enjoying the self-enclosed south facing gardens or walking the half mile down to Porth beach. If you're feeling adventurous you can borrow one of the house's many surfboards to try your hand on the waves of Cornwall's North Shore. With a village pub at the end of the road and Newquay and Watergate on your doorstep, you are unlikely to get bored. This is either a perfect family holiday home (we can supply cots, children's toys etc) or a charming base to explore Cornwall's many attractions. You can even make your own pizza in our pizza oven or bbq in the evening sun. We believe that familes would get the most out of the house and unfortunately it is not suitable for stag or hen parties. We love it that families have enjoyed their stay at the Old Vic and for those returning families we offer 10% off the listed price.
After five months in intensive care in Bristol, to our absolute joy, our son Paul was well enough to come "home". The only problem was that we didn't have a "home" for him. Then, in the spring of 2013 we found the Old Vic which we begged, borrowed and stole to buy. Since then we have bust a gut trying to mould it into the perfect family home for Paul and then our new daughter Grace. It has been far from plain sailing, but hopefully you will agree it has been worth it.
Mr Matthew Hill purchased this house in 2013
This is the second time we've stayed at the property and even though it was perfect last time the owners have added even more features with a child's play house and trampoline which was great for keeping the kids entertained while the adults enjoyed a glass of wine on the terrace.
We went as a mixed group with some small children and the house is well set up with a child's play room equipped with all the toys you need to keep them entertained while we put the BBQ and pizza oven to good use.
The location is also perfect for getting to some of the local beach's including Porth which is a short walk away.
I cannot recommend enough
We arrived at The Old Vicarage as a family of 12 on Saturday afternoon. We usually stay in a caravan each year but decided on a change this time. First impressions of the house was that it was bigger than it looked in the pictures and the back garden was amazing. A pizza oven, barbecue, hobbit house, trampoline and outdoor sauna...we knew we had struck gold! Inside didn't disappoint either. Matt and Irena had left a generous welcome package and card that made us feel instantly at home. Everything in the kitchen was labelled, which saved time trying to find things in different drawers and the cupboards were well stocked with tea, coffee, sugar, herbs, spices and oils. In the welcome package was suggestions of what to do and where to go and we had a fabulous take out from the local curry place and a trip to the beach as a result. The house itself is well maintained and very spacious but the most special part is that it has a real family feel to it, so you never felt like you couldn't relax...quite the opposite! It was lovely to come 'home' after a day at the beach and put your feet up, listen to some music and wait for dinner to be cooked. Each bathroom had shampoo and conditioner provided and there were plenty of toilet rolls/kitchen rolls and cleaning stuff available too. The framed artwork in each room is defo worth a look also. Matt and Irena were fantastic at getting back to us with any questions we had and nothing was too much trouble. We had three young children with us and they enjoyed the toy room and the outdoors especially. Nanna and Grandad had the annex and were delighted to have their own space, with all the amenities of a house. The fact they had a hiding place from the grandkids was an added bonus! All in all we had a wonderful holiday and we will definitely return to The Old Vicarage. Thank you again Matt and Irena for letting us stay in your beautiful home :)
Just wonderful. Beautiful house in grounds that are full of sunshine dawn to dusk. Plenty of room to gather together or find a quiet nook to take a moment. The bedrooms all have gorgeous views and all the double rooms have a lovely chaise to chill and read a book or just enjoy the views over the fields and church. How lovely to sit on a sunlit patio with a glass of bubbly listening to the church bells whilst the kids are working of their energy on the trampoline ? . Porth beach is 10 minutes down a path at the end of the garden and there is a a great local pub less than 5 minutes in the other direction. Fab food - honestly! Go to Newquay if you have to but preferably visit whipsiderry and porth island and celebrate the fact you can leave your car at home to do so
The kitchen is great for cooking (large range master) and dishwasher but we loved the ceremony of theoutdoor pizza oven.
Yes the weather was kind to us but we had a stay at home day at the kids request and between the films-sauna-games and "toys" we could have filled all week happily without leaving the house
Matthew and Irena couldn't have been more helpful and this is clearly a home that is built on love and family
We hope to return next year
This was the perfect place to stay,Matthew and Irena have taken a great deal of pride in the house which was obviously more of a family home than the standard rental property.
The location couldn't be better, Newquay is close by and a easy taxi ride after a night out and Porth beach is a nice walk with many of the surf beaches a short drive away.
I would recommend this property without reservation, it made for a wonderful holiday
We spent 2 wonderful weeks here with friends. What an amazing house, 10 minutes walk to beautiful Porth beach and everything we could need in the house. Beautiful home in which to relax, chill out, enjoy BBQ and Pizza, sit in the sun and plan great days out nearby. Would definitely recommend.
This is a very large and wonderfully presented house. The acommodation is vast and very nicely decorated and furnished. We stayed as a large family group, with parents/children in the 5 x bedrooms in the main house, and my Mum & Dad in their 70's stayed in the attached annex which is self-contained, giving them a well deserved bit of peace and quiet. It is impossible to fault this place. The location is fine, 10 mins walk or 5 mins drive to Porth beach, 10 mins drive to the center of Newquay, good pub 2 mins walk, pasty & coffee shop 5 mins drive. Lovely welcome pack from owner added to the feel good holiday feeling. Most highly recommended. (And try the Pizza oven in the garden, works a treat!)
