A Hedge provides very good privacy. There is a lovely burn running down the side of the garden which sounds delightful when in flow. Private parking to the rear of the house and a garage space is available should guests need to store mountain bikes.
We live near the village of Beauly. My Husband and I are local to the area, John is a retired Electrical Engineer. We are still very active and enjoy meeting new people, especially welcoming them to the Highlands for the first time, second and third. We had no idea we would enjoy this time in our lives so much, the most rewarding thing for us is knowing that Rowan Cottage has been such a delight to so many guests, we were not prepared for how many new friends we would meet along the way - it really has been a joy for us.
Mairi Young purchased this cottage in 2000
The minute we found Rowan we knew it was the most Idyllic spot for our guests to enjoy tranquility and peace but not to be too far away from all the attractions in the Highlands - so many right on the doorstep. Location is every thing and Rowan has Location!
Rowan is a traditional Highland Cottage and a little over 100 years old. Apart from the Idyllic location, it offers a comfort and welcome that puts our guest at ease straight away. We have many added extras available to guests, including a generous welcome basket on arrival. Many of our guests say they don't want to leave. Our Visitors Book is testament to the many charms and benefits that Rowan has to offer and we are pleased to say many of our guests return year after year. The conservatory particularly is enjoyed by our guest who simply like to sit and watch the bird life around the garden, read a book or gently snooze in the very comfortable chairs. At the end of the day this is often where our guests sit to eat and enjoy a relaxing refreshment like a glass of wine. In the cooler weather our guests enjoy the fireside which soon makes the living room a very snug place to curl up.
This is our first trip to the Highlands and we feel so fortunate to have found Rowan Cottage. This really is a very special place to stay - so much more than just a base from which to explore. Thank you Mairi and John for the warm welcome and for all the thoughtful extras including the fabulous welcome pack (we really enjoyed our daily slice of home-made fruit cake). You seem to have thought of everything. For future guests we can only echo what others have written : stock up the bird table - you will be delighted! We would love to come back again.
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to stay in such a lovely, comfortable cottage. The scenery is magnificent. Your hospitality was second to none. Thank you for the lovely fruit cake. For other guests a visit to Glen Affric is well worth the effort. We hope to return to Rowan Cottage one day.
Our 4th visit (it would be rude not to make it 5 at some point in the future). A great way to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. We love to do all the same old familiar things but always manage to find one or two new experiences. As bike riders and walkers we are in OS heaven. For some reason we always seem to avoid rain in Scotland and have been lucky with the weather. Many thanks again for your kindness and warm welcome, we feel we are coming home when we reach Rowan Cottage.
Unfortunately our week was a bit dull and wet so we did not get the full advantage of the sun porch or the walking paths all around. However we enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage has everything you need including a coal fire for cosy evenings. The welcome pack is very generous including a tasty home made cake! The bathroom has been recently upgraded with an excellent shower over the bath.
The cottage is up a steep hill in a sloping location so might not be ideal for someone with limited mobility as the car parking is 20 odd metres from the door.
the property was beautifully clean, mairi was there to meet us and explained everything to us, the birds were plentiful and kept us entertained. And we had a very generous hamper on arrival. The only thing we would change is to lower the front hedge as sitting in the conservatory the views were blocked by the hedge. and in the advertisement the hedge is very low. It doesn't need to be high because it wont interfere with any one else.
the bed was comfortable but there was a slight smell of damp in the bedroom but overall we loved it all. Scotland is Beautiful.
The cottage was idyllic and was the epitome of cosiness and peacefulness..
The sumptuous welcome pack was much appreciated.
We highly recommend Rowan as a holiday hideaway and as a base to tour the Highlands.
What a beautiful cottage! Fabulous views across Loch Ness to Dores, abundant wildlife including pine marten. So high up clouds passed by beneath us. The cottage is extremely comfortable with a lovely bathroom and well-equipped kitchen. Mairi Mae provided a very generous welcome pack including home-made cake.
The cottage is well situated about 20 minutes from Inverness with good access to the many attractions in the area including distilleries, castles, boat trips, walks, Caledonian Canal, etc.
We were very lucky with the weather, warm and dry most days and very hot towards the end of our stay.
There is so much to do and see in the area we wish we'd stayed longer than two weeks, and certainly hope to return again one day.
From the moment I spoke to Mairi Mae I had a good feeling about cottage and owner. Cottage is well equipped and is ideal for sightseeing and for walking. Evenings can be spent in conservatory viewing the wildlife. Lots of birds, bees and we got to see the Pine Martin on two occasions.
Rowan cottage was stunning in every way possible every window has a beautiful view of loch , countryside and wildlife habitat , the cottage was truly a home from home with the added luxury of a real coal fire .Me and my new husband spent our honeymoon in rowan it was the most special time for us , mairi mar gave us the most lovely welcome and a wonderful welcome pack , carrot cake and champagne in pack were lovely , we spent our days exploring the Highlands as far as John o groats and our evenings cuddled around the real fire , we will be booking again for our 1st anniversary and we are so looking forward to returning to loch ness rowan cottage and our Highland getaway ...thankyou so much for our honeymoon being made so perfect in every way ...colette and Jim shaw .
