About the Owner

After numerous working years in Paris, we were looking for a pleasant resort with a soft and sunny climate and a happy, active and welcoming population to live and work finally on the open air.

It is what we found in La Barrat,

Guestbook comments from the owner

Perfect Gite for Summer tranquillity

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at La Crèche gave us a peaceful home location from which to enjoy the late Summer climate around Bergerac. The standard of facilities and layout of the Gite were well presented with the terrace providing a nice private dining area. The pool is shared with the other Gite on site but most of the time we had the pool to ourselves. The tranquil pool setting has a peaceful view down the fields where you can watch the owners horses at play.

Christine and Gerard were lovely hosts and really made our stay welcoming.

We have some wonderful memories to reflect on and will definitely return.

Charming, peaceful and well equipped

  • 5 of 5

The gite is set in beautiful and extensive grounds in the countryside. It is well equipped and there is a nice, clean swimming pool with a view. Our only problem were the low beams in the kitchen, which we were both constantly banging our heads on! The nearby ancient village of Issigeac is beautiful with a Sunday market that is not to be missed. We enjoyed our stay very much and the owners and their dog were perfect hosts. We hope very much to return to La Barrat in the near future.

Our sixth stay at La Barrat

  • 5 of 5

This was our sixth stay at La Barrat and the new owners Gerard and Christine continue to improve the standard of the accommodation . They are great hosts assisting in booking the local restaurants and general advice. The setting is quiet and ideal for walking, and cycling or just sitting by the lovely pool. We enjoy bird watching and the area is home to a wide range of interesting species including golden Orioles , Hoopoes and Black Kites. There are now a number of walks marked out by the local tourist office which take you through the vineyards and countryside.

We have already booked for 2017

  • 5 of 5

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Bergerac - Roumaniere at 15 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Issigeac at 2 Kilometres Nearest Train : Bergerac at 20 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Issigeac at 2 Kilometres Car: recommended

Arcachon and the beaches of the west coast are a 2 hour drive away.

La Barrat is about 20 Kilometres south of Bergerac, even less from the airport - Roumaniere. There are daily flights to and from the UK throughout the year. We are a situated approximately a 9 hour drive from Calais and a 6 hour drive from Paris.

Issigeac is our nearest large village/small town, a short two minutes drive from La Barrat. Bergerac is a lovely, larger town 15 minutes drive from La Barrat. It is situated on the banks of the Dordogne and has a beautiful old town where the winding, cobbled streets climb up from the river to the church and market place at the top of the town. There are numerous bastide villages, chateaux & gardens which are a short drive away. The surrounding area provides many walking/cycling opportunities.

Further Details:

Issigeac has a bank with cash machine and the shops include bakeries, butchers, newsagent, grocers and hairdressers. There are some pottery, art and gift shops and there is often an art exhibition at the local tourist office.

Issigeac has a thriving Sunday morning market and the quiet town is is transformed for a few hours. It is a great opportunity to stock up with local produce. There a several really good restaurants.
