Charming Villa With Private Pool, Summer Kitchen, And Hillside Views

Updated: 17-Oct-2016
Villa in Fa, Nr. Limoux, Aude, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - A Paradise For Nature Lovers, Walkers, And Those That Want To Relax

A fully detatched large villa on the edge of a quaint French village. The pool is within the walled garden and is very private.

From almost every direction of the villa and gardens you can enjoy stunning views of mountains and the village roof tops.

Enjoy the very private gardens and the large, south facing, non-chlorine, pool – with a huge sun terrace and outdoor kitchen/BBQ area. Relax with a glass of local wine, at the end of the day, on the upper terrace where you will feel that you can touch the stars above. Breakfast on the covered patio or take a stroll down to the local bar/café for coffee and croissant. A car is recommended to discover the mysteries, and magnificent scenery, of the Cathar country, the city of Carcassonne, the Pyrenees, and the Mediterranean just 90 minutes away. You can even try your hand, and mind, to solving the mystery of Rennes le Chateau – if you dare ! There is even a dinosaur museum nearby !! The villa is roomy and comfy. You will have full broadband WiFi access, TV with DVD player, dishwasher, washing machine, and a wonderful holiday.

A fantastic villa in a wonderful location - highly recommended!

  • 5 of 5

It is impossible to find fault with the accommodation and it allowed us to enjoy a super holiday in a beautiful part of France. At all times we received great support from Graham, the owner, and we were provided with in-depth, local information and guidance which was extremely useful. The village of Fa is quiet and relaxed with extremely welcoming and friendly locals; the Cafedefa provides lovely food within a charming ambiance.

The villa is located on the edge of the village and is extremely well provisioned, comfortable and very clean. The rooms are large and airy and the south-facing pool area is ideal for soaking up the rays and splashing about in the water. The outside kitchen is a real bonus and we enjoyed this facility immensely. There is a beautiful pond on the edge of the plot which teemed with wildlife including tadpoles, frogs and even a tiny grass snake one morning.

In short, we would highly recommend the villa, the support, the location and the region to anyone looking for a fantastic holiday. First Class!

A great place to stay in this beautiful region

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely, very clean and well equipped property. Situated at the edge of a small friendly village, the villa has the benefit of feeling secluded but is within a short walk from the local bar which serves very tasty homemade food.

The pool area is wonderful with a fully equipped outside eating area at one end, complete with outdoor kitchen including BBQ, sink and hot plate cooking facilities.

The villa also benefits from a sheltered veranda for dining 'al fresco' whilst taking in the surrounding countryside.

A lovely additional feature was being able to sit next to the garden pond and watch and listen to the family of frogs and tadpoles.

The owner communicated well throughout the booking process and provided detailed information about surrounding areas and places to visit together with very clear and illustrated directions for travelling to the villa.

We went as a family with 2 adult children and found the property perfect for our requirements. However, it would suit a younger family - or indeed anyone!!!

We thoroughly recommend this property to anybody contemplating a visit to this beautiful and historically interesting corner of France.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

From the Owner

Many years ago I had the privilege to work and live on the Cote d'Azur, near to Marseille and, it was from this that I gained my love for the South of France. Owning a villa was always my dream and, therefore, it was no surprise that I chose a Provençal style villa in the more peaceful and tranquil Aude department. Ticking all the boxes included excellent links back to the UK with the choice of 3 airports, and TGV rail link, and virtually direct motorway all the way to Calais. Although the villa is situated just on the edge of a charming rustic village it is a short drive from everything one needs. A rare insight to paradise in this mad and busy world.

The Mediterranean coast is 90 minutes drive. A fabulous old fishing village is Collioure (118km) adored by artists for its light, colours, and textures. Appreciated by all for its sea food restaurants and historic buildings.

For long sandy beaches head for Le Bacarés (96km) and enjoy the freedom of miles of sand and safe, mostly shallow, bathing.

A bit nearer to home is the village of Puivert (just 22 mins by car)

where there is a 'plage' with a man-made beach around a fresh water lake.

The nearest airport is Carcassonne (about 45 mins) which has flights from London Stansted, Liverpool, Birmingham, Glasgow, Dublin, Brussels, and Porto.

Perpignan will take you 90 mins by car. Mainly flights are from London Stansted.

Toulouse is a fully international airport with flights to London Gatwick and many other worldwide locations. You need 2 hours to get to/from Toulouse.

Although not essential a car is very useful to see the surrounding area.

Carcassonne is 47 km (30 miles)

Quillan is 11 km (7 miles)

Limoux is 22 km (14 miles)

Rennes le Chateau is 9 km (6 miles)

Toulouse is 122 km (76 miles)

Narbonne is 110 km (69 miles)

Andorra is 120 km (75 miles)

Bordeaux is 364 km (228 miles)

Barcelona is 276 km (172 miles)

Paris is 798 km (500 miles)

Calais is 1082 km (676 Miles)

All distances are approx. and rounded up.

Further Details:

In the village there is a café bar open for breakfasts, evening meals, or just a cool beer. Often there is live music on the riverside terrace.

Friday night is Fish & Chip night (with a French touch!)

Bread and croissants can be ordered (the day before, English spoken) from the bar or there is a daily van service at 8 am in the village square.

The nearby town of Esperaza has a selection of shops including butchers, bakers, pharmacies, restaurants, bars, banks, and a good size supermarket. Also an amazing Sunday market with lots of fresh, locally grown, produce, hand craft, and travelling buskers.

Esperaza also has an internationally recognised Dinosaur museum housing many items dug up in the area. Next to the dinosaur museum is a hat museum which is much more interesting than it sounds. Esperaza had one of the leading hat industries in the world. Sadly that is all old hat !

Buses and trains from Esperaza to Carcassonne, Limoux, or Quillan for just 1 euro per person per journey !

Kayaking on the river Aude is available just south of Limoux, in Couiza, and just west of Quillan. A great day out for confident swimmers who want the challenge of the rapids. twists, and turns through cuts and gorges.

From the Owner

The real benefit is the peace. Not just in terms of sound, or lack of it, but in the way of life, the warmth of the sun even in winter, the clean air, and the thrill of seeing big birds of prey soaring around the hill tops. A realization of time breaks this near utopia with the chiming of the distant church bells and the midday bells melody calling in the vineyard workers for the all important lunch. Staying at the villa is everything that is not life in the UK. In fact, it takes 2 - 3 days to climb down and chill out - walking becomes less urgent, driving less intense, and shoulders relax. But, life is not far away and summer in France is amazing. Music events, firework displays, carnivals, and fetes abound - mostly free - and no parking meters ! Wonderful.
