About the property

Barn in Stithians, Nr. Falmouth, Cornwall, England - Granite Barn Conversion, Peaceful Rural Setting, 15 Mins Walk From Lake And 15 Mins Drive To Beach.

Brand new to the market in 2015, The Dairy is a charming grade 2 listed barn conversion adjoining the farmhouse and was recently converted (by the current owners) from two barns, which were previously a milking parlour and piggery. It has a bright lounge/diner with a vaulted ceiling, cosy wood burner and French doors opening out onto the courtyard and garden; two double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a modern fully equipped kitchen. It is contemporary in style and has been decorated with local artwork. The Dairy has its own drive with parking for two cars and we welcome well behaved dogs.

Set in a tranquil location, The Dairy overlooks the courtyard and garden with patio table and chairs and a barbecue. The garden is terraced over three lawned levels and great for garden games. It has a tree swing and a sunken trampoline. The Dairy was once part of the Tretheague Estate with it’s Grade II* listed Georgian Manor house built in 1744 by architect Thomas Edwards. All the old farm buildings are now restored and complete this lovely little hamlet: Tretheague Barton, The Farmhouse, The Cottage, The Dairy, The Piggery, The Granary and The Smithy. The Dairy lies on the edge of Stithians village and is perfectly situated for exploring both the North and South coasts of Cornwall. Truro, Helford Passage, Helston, Redruth and Camborne Mining Heritage, Newquay, St Ives, Padstow, the Lizard, Lands End, Penzance, Mousehole are all within touching distance.

About Jane Williams

Jane And Gwyn would love to welcome you to the Dairy. We have been living in Cornwall since 2002 and absolutely love the life we have. We have two children Bethany and Benjamin 16 and 14 respectively. We moved to Stithians in 2007 and converted the barn initially as ancillary accommodation for relatives and now have recently updated it for holiday letting. We are happy to help in anyway we can to make your holiday as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.

Jane Williams purchased this barn in 2007

Why Jane Williams chose Cornwall

We moved down to Cornwall in 2002 and bought a holiday park which we successfully ran for 6 years but with our children growing up fast we wanted to have a bit more quality time with them and so sold the park and moved to Stithians. We were attracted to it because it is off the beaten track in a nice little hamlet of five or six renovated barns but still close to the village . Stithians is a great location as it is equidistant from the bustling harbour town of Falmouth with its quaint cobbled streets and plethora of bars and restaurants and the city of Truro with its cathedral, shops, and further choice of restaurants. Also being in the middle of the county its great for the choice of north or south coasts , just get up, look at the sky and choose the best coast for the weather

A fantastic winter break

  • 5 of 5

We visited The Dairy towards the end of January. We were not disappointed as, from our arrival to departure, Jane and Gwyn did all they could to make our stay perfect. On arrival, the welcome pack exceeds the usual wine and cake/scones. You had milk, bread, cheese etc. so that you need not worry about rushing out the next morning for breakfast. The property and facilities are excellent - everything you could possibly want are provided. Having dogs, we wanted a place that we could return to early evening after exploring the wonderful surroundings. Best meal was lunch at the Falmouth Packet on the way to Penzance. Central heating is programmed but the extra bonus of a cosy wood burner makes it a pleasure to return to.

Would recommend this property to anyone who wants to explore South Cornwall - at any time of the year. Look forward to returning in a different season and catch up with all those places we missed.

What a lovely getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this property for a cosy getaway to avoid the usual January blues and what a great time we had. On arrival we were greeted by Jane and instantly felt at home - log fire ready to go on, cream teas, biscuits, wine, cheese...very warm welcome overall

Property itself is lovely and has a great homely feel to it. Whilst the frost was biting outside, it was very nice and warm inside and the log fire made the evenings so much more pleasant.

We did read reviews about the two bedrooms at opposite ends of the house and with a 4 year old we were a bit apprehensive but it turned out fine - just left some lights on in case he had to walk across to come and see us at night but in the end he settled in quite well.

Whilst the owners live next door, I don't think we even managed to cross paths during our stay so it certainly felt like we were on or own and not disturbed in any way. At the same time we had full use of the outdoor space, garden, swing and trampoline.

The location is great for exploring Cornwall - so much to do and see within less than an hour's drive. A week was nowhere near enough to see it all. We hope to return again next year. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Friendly, comfortable and complete holiday barn

  • 5 of 5

A warm welcome with flowers and a cream tea, filled fridge and wine. The log burner was ready when we arrived.

The barn is very comfortable with a modern kitchen and nice lounge/room. The Diary is beautiful situated to explore Cornwall. We did some walking along the coast, Kennall Vale and Stithians Reservoir. Seven days: not long enough.

Superb, well equipped, very comfortable accommodation. Well decorated and lovely soft furnishings.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week staying in the barn conversion at Stithians. The accommodation was lovely and equipped with everything you can think of. It was beautifully decorated and furnished and the beds were very comfortable. It was a lovely surprise to find a cream tea, a hamper of goodies and provisions in the fridge when we arrived. There were also fresh flowers in all the rooms. Jane was helpful if we needed her but never intruded. She even brought us candles and candlesticks when we had a short power cut! Thank you for providing us with such a lovely place to stay. We can't fault it in anyway and are happy to recommend it to family and friends. We hope to come back in the future.

Best property we've ever rented

  • 5 of 5

This is the best property we've ever stayed in. In terms of comfort, equipment and cleanliness it would be difficult to beat.

The welcome pack was much more than we expected; a really warm welcome.

Location is great, quiet and peaceful, but close enough to places of interest making it an ideal centre.

Our two dogs loved the adjoining 6 acre field.

We would gladly recommend it and will go back once the A30 upgrade is completed.
