Beautiful Provencal Rural Villa Set In Private Garden With Outdoor Pool

Updated: 20-Oct-2016
Villa in Tourrettes, Draguignan, Var, Provence-Alpes-Cote DAzur, France

La Bergerie is a lovely Provencal 4 bedroom villa set in a large private garden. It benefits from a private heated outdoor pool easily accessible from its terrace. The house, pool and grounds are surrounded by olive terraces. The unspoilt hill-top villages of Montauroux and The historic villages of Callian and Montauroux are a 5 minute drive away with weekly busy markets, the local olive oil and Rose are particularly delicious. Village shops, cafes, the maze of village lanes and a classic square with a fountain hold delights around each corner, waiting to reveal their gifts. In the summer Callian hosts wonderful music festivals and fairs. There is a range of supermarkets within 15 minutes driving in the valley below Callian and Montauroux. The villa has thick traditional stone walls which help keep it cool in the summer months together with the Provencal style tiled floor throughout the property.

About the Owner

I have a young family with four young children, all of whom love their time at La Bergerie.

My parents-in-law built the property incorporating existing ruins over 40 years ago. The love and devotion they felt for and put into La Bergerie remains evident and adds to the charm.

A wonderful "home away from home" in a delightful area with lots to see and do. Owner very helpful and wanted to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Everything in the house is comfortable and well thought out and lots of charm and character. Extremely peaceful but not feeling too isolated and villages of Callian and Montauraux close with plenty of restaurants/ cafes etc and large supermarkets and bigger shops about 15 minutes away. Pool looked great for the summer but we settled for winter sunshine on the terrace!

Highly recommend this delightful holiday house.

La Bergerie

  • 4 of 5

La Bergerie is a lovely old Provence house which has been sympathetically restored by it's owners and is a haven of peace situated in a remote wooded area, yet close to the lovely Medieval hilltop Villages of Callian and Montauroux. Within easy reach of all of the Cote d'Azur and nice to return to, as a slightly cooler alternative to the intense heat of the sun drenched beaches! Lovely pool and terraces.

Lucinda Sikorski, the owner, was very helpful and pleasant to deal with

Welcoming, well equipped spacious home.

  • 5 of 5

My family (2 adults, 2 teenagers) had a wonderful holiday at La Bergerie. The house is quite secluded and very peaceful, it has a lovely welcoming atmosphere and immediately felt like home. There was plenty of space for the 4 of us, the space is well thought out with good sized bedrooms, modern shower rooms, a well equipped kitchen, shaded terrace for dining and wonderful pool area for lazing under the bluest of french sky. The photographs accompanying this listing are accurate.

The villages of Callian and Montauroux are just a short drive away, both have great bakeries, and we found the locals to be very friendly towards visitors, there are 4 large supermarkets 10-15 minutes drive away. It is only a short drive to Lac Ste Cassien a stunning lake with kayaks, paddle boards, and pedaloes for hire. The house is also well situated for the A8 motorway for trips to Nice, Cannes, St Tropez and Monaco.

Communication with Lucinda, the owner, was good and she quickly sorted a small issue we had when we arrived.

I would recommend La Bergerie to my friends and family.

Idyllic hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 had the most relaxing week here in this magical spot. The pool was great, lovely and warm, safe for our 6 year olds. The layout was great to be able to sip on wine reading a book whilst watching them having a great time in the pool. 3 good bathrooms with good showers, plenty of space.

This villa is well located to explore the picturesque local villages, though a car is a must.

The closest village of Callian is charming and have some good restaurants and great atmosphere. A perfect place to recharge the batteries!

Rustic rural idyll

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely two weeks here last summer. The villa is as described, somewhat rustic in the living areas but with very comfortable bedrooms and efficient modern bathrooms. Mosquitos abound but are easy to deal with. I suspect 8 adults would be tight but for us it was a perfect lazy summer holiday. The pool is deep and cool with plenty of places to laze in the sun or shade.

And oh so quiet. We are not fans of the crowd and if you wish for seclusion you have found it.

Some issues with the pool filter which were dealt with once we made Lucinda aware of the problem.

Lovely area. The local lake is great fun and the activities very reasonably priced. Convenient supermarket at the bottom of the hill on which the two villages sit. We went to restaurants in Fayance, Callian and Montaroux all lovely to watch to world go by. The beach at Frejus was a single trip but made a refreshing change. The village of Mons, the Caves at St Cezaire and the Gorges de Verdon were all pleasant trips. Grasse and the sweet factory at Pont du Loup were also fun.

Would I recommend to a friend? Yes. We would consider going again but we tend to like to try different places each year. Could it be improved? A hammock would have allowed me to truly relax in the shade but otherwise no!

Owner's Response: I'm glad you and your family enjoyed the peace and restoring qualities of staying at La Bergerie! I agree, 8 adults would be a squeeze but the accommodation suits a variety of combinations! I hope you enjoy your holiday in summer 2016 and maybe we could tempt you back another year!

A wonderful peaceful retreat in a stunning area

  • 4 of 5

La Bergerie is a quirky and beautiful home, which is full of history. It is very well appointed and has all the facilities necessary to make your stay run smoothly, and therefore feel on holiday. There was plenty of space for our two families to move about comfortably. The new bathrooms are beautifully presented, and the terrace was a super spot for all our meals. The pool was great fun, and a must for our two small children. We even got a work out with the pool jets! The local area is stunning and so exploring down to the lake, the gorges, and cycling the area was a joy. Lucinda was very helpful throughout our stay. Thank you.

  • Notes on accommodation: La Bergerie was built over 40 years ago from existing ruins which my parents-in-law. They incorporated the evocative walls within the house and the love and devotion they felt for and put into the property remains evident and adds to its charm. Our young family with four children love their holidays at La Bergerie and you will find a good selection of family games and books. The house has recently had two new upstairs bedrooms built and all three of the bathrooms are new and the property has been freshly decorated throughout. It is an old property with charm and character and has all the necessary modern touches! Outside: The pool is 10mx4m and the poolside area is paved (with sun loungers). The swimming pool is private, chlorine free & has an environmentally friendly salt filter system. It has an easy to use electrically operated cover. The pool can be heated if required in spring or autumn. For outside dining, there is the terrace with views of the pool and garden with its olive, cypress, oak, lavender, rosemary and thyme. Utility Room: Small room with washing machine & cleaning materials, shelving and hot water tank. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and bath towels are provided. (No beach towels). The property is cleaned on changeover day (linen can be changed weekly if you are staying over 1 week). Other: King size bedrooms are comfortable, upstairs twin is slightly tight and downstairs 4th bedroom has a comfortable bunk bed. The villa being more compact than others in the area is reflected in the reasonable prices.
