About the property

Dramatic location in a small Crete village wonderfully secluded from the hustle and bustle of home, switch off and soak up a most unique experience with dramatic mountain views to the rear along with costal views to the front.

New for 2017 I bedroom Villa to rent close by, allowing larger families to rent additional space, see photo gallery.

The city of Chania is only a thirty minute drive away with its harbour front restaurants and unique atmosphere.

Breakfast and evening meals available at extra cost upon request.

With such breathtaking views as the background it is necessary that the houses match the beautiful vistas, and these houses will not disappoint. They are fashioned out of solid stone, each with its own swimming pool and garden. The traditional wood features will transport you back to an old Greece, while also allowing for the comfort of modern life; the old and the new come together in these houses in a perfect symmetry.

Both Villas for the start of the 2016 have now had installed Satelite TV's and Air conditioning to the bedrooms.

About Samantha Storer

I live in England with my Husband and Daughter who is aged eight years old and loves school.

My Husband and I have a passion for Crete, we have been visiting the island for the last seventeen years, after lots of searching we have found the perfect spot to share with others.

We have made many freinds over the years of visting the island, now Crete for us feels like our second home, we spend as much of the school holidays here as we can and our daughter is picking up the language which is great.

Samantha Storer purchased this villa in 2015

Why Samantha Storer chose Chania area

The three houses are so much part of the real Crete, just away from the main Tourist areas but oh so far, you can't help but relax and switch off when you stay in Melidoni, locals going about local business with not a tourist in sight, mix with them and embrace the way to live, the diet, the social scene, the culture!

What makes this villa unique

Peace and quiet apart from birds, goat and sheep bells, with the most amazing views. Blue sky, chill out by the private swimming pool, gardens to match, fantastic views, night time sky is second to none with the Milky Way looking it's finest, shooting stars galore, soak it up it really is a special place.

Excellent property in a stunning unspolit location

  • 5 of 5

This has been the second time that we have been in Melidoni (previously 2015), when we stayed in the owners other villa, as sadly Amaltheia was not available for our preferred dates. The traditionally built house in the foothills of Crete's White Mountains in Melidoni has so much going for it.

The interior of the property is of a very high standard and the alround views are quite spectacular. We managed to do some local walks which was a real bonus. On one of the evenings we had dinner that was locally cooked by a lady from the village and the food was exceptional and was delivered to the villa, a real treat.

We will have no hesitation in recomending this property and setting to our friends and family.

We are off to Elounda in the east of Crete now and we hope that it is just half as good as our wonderful stay in the peaceful beautiful setting of villa Amaltheia has been.

Amazing Villa. Nice and peaceful. Will return. Very happy great holiday.

  • 5 of 5

Great communication from Samantha at all times. Villa is so nice. It's the perfect place as we like getting away from the crowds.

Stayed with my wife and two kids aged 3 and 1. Stavros is a gentleman, he made us feel very welcome and gave good advice about Crete.

Food ordered from the lovely lady in the village is a true taste of Cretan cooking. We ordered 3 times. Kids loved that pool, which is where they spent most of the time. Definitely will return. Many thanks for a stress free holiday x

A beautiful villa with stunning mountain views

  • 5 of 5

Villa Amaltheia was even better in person than described online. It was clean, comfortable and well looked after. We have a young family and we found there was more than enough room for all of us - Sam and Jerry were great and also ensured we had everything we needed, including a cot for our youngest. The pool was an added bonus and the children spent most days swimming (even though the water hadn't quite warmed up yet!). The location was great - it was quiet and peaceful, but yet we were only a short journey from Chania. We will definitely be back again!

Lovely environment and very enjoyable holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Villa and the location. Good country walks on the doorstep, easy driving distance to Chania. The Villa was very clean and all essential needs were provided. We found the people of Crete very helpful and friendly, and very much so enjoyed our visit. Local food produce was fresh and the meals at the local Taverna's we visited were wonderful! A very relaxing atmosphere in the Villa, surrounded by mountain views. A great place to feel away from the 'hussle and bussle' of life. Plenty to do if you like nature and ancient history and good food!

These houses along with the location allow for any kind of holiday; whether you are interested in walking in the breathtaking mountains of Crete, enjoying the taste of the local food, as a base point from which to tour the island, or as somewhere to do nothing more than stay and relax, you can do all this and so much more.

With the village of Melidoni on your door step, you can enjoy a true taste of Crete in a truly historical village. As well as this there is a dazzling long, golden, sandy beach just a twenty minute drive away in the wonderful town of Kalives. The beach is semi-organised, allowing for both relaxation and seclusion. There are a number of tavernas in Kalives, as well as an awe-inspiring church in the main square, opposite which, the local small towns of Vrisses and Vamos are only fifteen minutes by car, both boasting an abundance of wonderful traditional tavernas allowing you to enjoy the true taste of Cretan cooking.

Allow Melidoni to be the backdrop to what will be a truly memorable and unique experience.

Travel:

Chania airport is a forty minute drive away by car. Heraklion airport is a two hour drive. There is also a ferry from Souda Bay to Athens daily, this port is thirty minutes drive away. Car hire is essential.

Distances:

With Melidoni right on your door step: only a three minute walk away, you can enjoy a slice of traditional Crete. You can mingle with the locals, who are very welcoming, in the traditional 'Cafeneon' or coffee house, or if you wish to explore the village of Melidoni there is a wonderfully tranquil church, as well as a historical spring, where you can learn about the origins of the village.

The small town of Kalives is also just a short drive away, with a number of wonderful tavernas, either on the beach front or in the main town square, opposite an ornate Greek orthodox church.

The city of Chania is a spectacular melting pot of culture, history and architecture, with obvious Venetian and Turkish elements in the old cobbled, winding backstreets. There is nothing better than getting lost in the Old Town where there are a number of unique tavernas and shops. The harbour front is also very much worth a visit, especially to the old lighthouse, with wonderful views of Chania with a backdrop of dramatic mountain vistas . Chania has a taste of everything, which is sure to please everyone.

Further Details:

Melidoni, sitting at an altitude of 410 meters, offers amazing opportunities for walkers and bike riders. Good sized supermarkets and other general amenities are available within the town of Kalives, only a twenty minute drive away. There is also a small grocery store just ten minutes away by car in the village of Aghi Pantes with Tavernas and fuel filling station within the village.
