NEW in Jan 2015 "The Cottage" in Braunton is a large and well equipped double fronted holiday home that is ideally situated for a family beach holiday or a surfing short break with a group of friends. The property has 3 bedrooms that sleeps 6, is dog friendly and is well equipped for children! The property had new carpets throughout in late 2014. When you walk through the front door the first thing you will notice is our large dining room with French kitchen table that seats 8 and working Rayburn making it a real hub of the house. There is lots of room for a large family or group of friends to really unwind and relax. The lounge is also a feature with wood burner, large 3-seater settee, large 2-seater settee, armchair, coffee table and even a guitar if you fancy a pluck! The village is a 1 minute walk to the end of East Street or if you turn left out of the front door you will be in the Agricultural Arms pub (The Aggi) within 2 minutes. The Elliot Gallery is a 10 minute walk away and you can be on the Tarka trail within 5 minutes. The kitchen is full equipped with cooker, washing machine, fridge-freezer and dishwasher and under the spiral stairs there is a great place for dogs to sleep. Up the spiral staircase there is a play room and behind it a wooden balcony where you can relax and watch the sun set. A private courtyard is a great place to store surfboards or have a BBQ and there is a table and 8 garden chairs.

About Paul Blunden

I'm Paul and my wife is Nikki. We have owned the cottage in Braunton for many years having fallen in love with the village when we used to travel down in our camper and go surfing. We started renting out our cottage to allow others to enjoy the area as we do and to support the local community. We hope you have a great stay.

Paul Blunden purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Paul Blunden chose North Devon

We bought our cottage in Braunton when we were expecting our third child and realized that the VW camper we owned was unable to properly accommodate us all. We love the area as there are great walks and beaches and loads to do for young and old whatever the weather.

Braunton is a lovely village with lots of nice restaurants and boutique shops and of course lots of surf fashion shops. There is a large Tesco nearby and a couple of cycle hire shops for making the most of the Tarka Trail.

The beach at Saunton is amazing and there is also Croyd bay nearby plus lots of other beaches just a short drive away. A little further you can visit attractions like Dino land, Big Sheep and the Atlantic Centre. Also close by is the market town of Barnstaple.

What makes this cottage unique

Our cottage is in the centre of the village and once you park up you can walk everywhere for eating out, down to the Tarka trail or for a coffee.

We have a large dining room with Rayburn oven and large kitchen table which comfortably seats 8 making it a real hub of the house. We have lots of board games in the cupboards and our kids have loved spending the afternoon with hot chocolate from the local cafe and the entire family playing monopoly. In the lounge there is a wood burner for cozy nights by the fire with lots of room and big sofa's.

In the kitchen a spiral staircase leads to a games room where there is a TV, X-Box and various games. We have well stocked book shelves and plenty of DVDs if you want to watch a movie. A door from the play room leads to a balcony which is perfect

We have just come back from a lovely week at the cottage. The location is perfect, only a few minutes walk and your in the village center with lovely coffee shops and restaurants. Its right on the tarka trail for bike rides and a 10-15 minute drive to the beach. The cottage has everything you would need and enough space to get some peace and quiet and all you need to keep kids amused. We would thoroughly recommend it.

We've just come back from a lovely long break at The Cottage. Its a real home from home at the heart of a lovely old village with most of what you need on your doorstep. Cozy but spacious interior where the old features have been maintained to a high standard including a wood burner... WiFi available which is great and adds versatility. Fabulous eateries and takeaways to suit any palate or mood. Some great walks and cycletracks from the village to the coast. A large family and dog friendly beach is less than a 10 mins drive away and ideal for surfers, paddleboarders or just paddlers. I'm biased because of my history with the area however irrespective of that, we would definitely go back for another family or couples break ....

uch a good time - we've surfed, cycled, dog walked and explored this beautiful area. You can really tell that the owners use this cottage themselves - all that you need is thoughtfully provided. We've read several books from the extensive collection, played some old school games, and eaten at some lovely pubs and restaurants. A great spot for a family break!

Delightful !!

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week at this property, you get loads of space for your money.

It is a very old house that in places showed its age, but I would image it is a nightmare keeping up with all the touch ups this place needs, we loved it regardless, bags of character.

Only two things that I missed at this property in comparison to others I have rented, and those were the parking and the garden, but I booked it knowing this as the advert is completely honest.

Lovely touch with dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, little soaps, dish clothes and tea towels waiting for you on arrival and little tea and coffee sachets also, very helpful!!

This place is an absolute bargain of a holiday, we had a great weeks surfing and coming back to a very homely property.

Thank you

Owner's Response: glad you liked it and yes it is a nightmare to keep given it's age but we love it too:)

Great location & size.

  • 4 of 5

Well equipped, lovely fresh clean bedding & towels. Fabulous location, the Aggi Pub was a bonus & so close to the cottage.

My only comment is that the cottage looks tired in places, especially the bathroom.

Saying that we had a great week in Braunton

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review and the bathroom has been a bit of a concern for me so was considering upgrading it. Your review has brought that into focus so i will investigate getting some modernisation work carried out. Glad it was all good otherwise.

The property was spacious and very well equipped

  • 4 of 5

The cottage had plenty of character and space so that the 5 of us, including 2 children under 10, didn't get under each others feet. The games room was great as were the gin and tonics on the sunny balcony.

If like me you don't like paying for parking, it was the usual nightmare in this part of the country. For a narrow road, some cars drove very quickly using it as a rat run at times to avoid the almost constant queues through the town. Getting asked by a tractor sounding it's horn before 8am to move our car when it was parked legally outside was also annoying as he must have had to do it along the entire street so why insist on going that route??? That aside, I found somewhere to park that was just over 5 minutes walk away which I preferred to do.

The cottage is in a perfect location to explore the surrounding area and has all the facilities you need nearby for a fantastic stay. The staff in the nearby Aggi pub were very friendly and they had a great range of ciders which we enjoyed.

In short, I would recommend this property and I would go back to it if we stayed in the area again.

Superb cottage and location! Communication was fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Me and my friends loved staying at 7 East Street. Braunton is such a great central location for all the activities available around you. The cottage is absolutely fantastic. Everything was perfect from the bedding/towels all being provided to the power of the shower. My friends and I loved the wood burner in the lounge and the TV is also great, we plugged a USB stick into the TV to watch movies and view photos from the day, it worked great - I managed to forget the USB stick was still in the back of the TV until we were half way up the M5 returning home however Paul the owner was brilliant, I dropped him an email explaining my forgetfulness and Paul worked some magic to get the USB stick returned to me in the post. The cottage is almost next door to a great pub called 'The Agricultural' (the aggie for short), we had a word with the owner and he gave us a parking permit which allowed us to park the car in their car park for the whole week at no charge - although we were regular customers ;-).

The cottage is comfortable, warm and spacious and is incredibly well equipped - I think my friends and I will struggle to go back to staying in caravans after having such a great stay.

Jones's Holiday

  • 4 of 5

What a lovely property, spacious, homely and conveniently situated for shops and beaches. The property is very well equipped. The enclosed courtyard and balcony are ideal to enjoy some quiet time. Braunton has just about everything you need, shops, pubs, restaurants, cycle hire the list is endless yet the place still has that village / community feel. All beach activities ie surfing are just a short drive away and most beaches have designated dog areas. Plenty off walks around the village that is steeped in history and an excellent bus service. It has it all - just a shame about the weather which could have been much better.

Helen and family of 5 from Leeds

  • 5 of 5

We have had a lovely stay in this cottage. We are a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 children. The cottage is spacious, comfortable, practical, we found the kitchen very well equipped. The balcony was a lovely place to sit in the evening with a beer. It is conveniently located for both shops and good quality eating places and with lots a beautiful beaches close by to explore. Our children, aged 8 and 6 years (twins) especially loved the PlayStation 2, videos and DVD's allowing us a little time to relax! Very good value for money, we would stay here again.
