Fantastic find!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 3 nights in August and had a fab time. The cottage is beautiful, has everything you need and Richard was a pleasure to deal with -very helpful indeed.

Rye is just lovely anyway, with great pubs and restaurants. Thanks again - we hope to be back!

Enjoyable stay in a quirky cottage

  • 4 of 5

The property description is accurate. We stayed 3 nights and dined in every night. It has the minimum requirements for cooking with a useful oven. There is a fishmonger and a supermarket nearby. Car parking is quite easy and cheap. The property was very clean and is very well located in the centre of Rye, with a great pub (Queen's Head) round the corner. The cottage is quite small but perfectly adequate for 4 adults and a baby. The double bed can feel a little hard for some. Care is needed when going down the staircase. The owner was very proactive and provided useful information. We enjoyed our time there and would probably stay at the cottage again.

Excellent accommodation in Rye

  • 5 of 5

Our 4 nights in Rye was made perfect by our accommodation which was by the Landgate and was near to the town. The cottage was as described, very clean and was well knitted out for self contained accommodation but, apart from breakfast, we ate out as there were plenty of eateries very close by. We enjoyed eating at Webbes fish cafe almost next door, also the Thai Restaurant across the road. There was also the Landgate Bistro and the George pub just round the corner so we didn't have to take the car out at night. Lots of cafes in Rye itself.

The ascent of the spiral staircase to the bedrooms and bathroom was OK even though we both had to take it carefully (aged in our 70's and not in the best of health). The kitchen was modern with everything you would need.

Parking was not a problem as there are 3 spaces outside, if you could get one, and nobody checked how long we had parked there - 48 hours at one point! Also lots of people seemed to park on yellow lines with no problem. There is also a cheap car park not far away (Rope Walk)

Very good communication with the owner (Richard) with any details we required.

Would love to return one day

Lovely little cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely 5 day break in Rye at the end of the summer holidays. The cottage is great fun, we all loved the cosy feel and the kids loved the attic room. The town is full of great restaurants and cafes, spoilt for choice! Thank you Richard :)

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. I am glad you and your kids enjoyed your time at Chesterfield cottage. Rye is a fantastic place in the summer but a log fire in the winter brings out another dimension.

Perfect cottage for your stay in Rye

  • 5 of 5

As a family of three we had a wonderful stay in this cosy cottage. Clean, well equipped as described, and everything in working good order.

Perfectly located with all shops and restaurants within walking distance. There is a nice amount of good restaurants available in Rye, but we couldn't resist cooking our own meal a few times using local produce. All you need is available in the kitchen.

In the small courtyard you can sit and relax after a long day of sightseeing, shopping or just to have a drink.

In short: This cottage comes highly recommended.

Perfect for a short stay in Rye

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely time staying in this little house. Great location! Richard was very helpful and had many good tips.

I would happily stay again.

N.b. Bring your own DVD player or download films in advance as there is no wifi if you want some nights in.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review, I am glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and would stay again. I’m sorry you didn’t find the DVD player, it’s actually integrated into the TV, and there is a small range of DVD’s provided for quiet nights in. The cottage doesn’t have Wi-Fi, as we have always found the free services offered by the local café’s, bars and restaurants sufficient for our needs. It is something however that we may add for the 2017 season.

From the Owner

We had been escaping to Rye from our busy lives in London for years, purchasing Chesterfield Cottage in 2010. After some extensive renovations to the kitchen and bathroom we have been using it as our home away from home, to relax and recharge our batteries. There is always something going on in the town and local area, amazing beaches, walks and quiet roads to cycle.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : The Queens Head Inn at 100 Metres Nearest Golf : Rye Golf Club at 4.5 Kilometres Nearest Train : Rye Train Station at 350 Metres Nearest Motorway : M20, Junction 10 at 30 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Webbs Fish Cafe at 100 Metres Nearest Beach : Camber Sands / Winchelsea Beach at 6 Kilometres Car: not necessary

The town of Rye has a unique charm and a High Street full of individual tea rooms, antique shops, boutiques, pubs and restaurants.

There is a Farmers Market on Wednesday and a weekly market on Thursdays. The town also has two fish mongers located on the wharf where you can purchase the freshest of fish just off the boats.

Ryes position in East Sussex makes a great base for exploring the 1066 countryside with its many historic towns and surrounding coast. Whether you decide on the stunning stretch of sand and dunes at Camber or the rugged pebbles beaches of Rye Harbour, Winchelsea or Pett Level, they’re all on your doorstep and can reached from the cottage on foot, by bicycle (NCR2 run from Camber to Brighton) or by car.

The Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is approximately 1.4 miles south of the town. There is a network of foot paths that provide easy waling access from Rye or you can park for free at Rye Harbour. There are five hides (with wheelchair access) in the reserve providing a wonderful view of the inhabitants of the many habitats, including wetlands, shingle ridges, sand, marsh and woodland. It is home to a wide range of species, including many considered rare or endangered in Britain.

By car: Travelling from London by car takes approx 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Either via M25 / M20 or the more scenic route M25 / A21. The cottage doesn’t have an allocated parking space but there are plenty of on street bays or Pay & Display options available.

By train: HS1 train from St Pancras International to Ashford International takes 38 minutes and it's then just 25 minutes to Rye on the Marsh link.
