About the property

1 bedroom single story barn conversion in a very quiet rural location.

Ellie and Richard welcome you to The Hairy Pigs' Rural Retreat. The barn, tucked away behind the owners' home, was converted in 2009. Initially run by Ellie as an award winning bed and breakfast, but laterly converted to letting accommodation providing very peaceful and comfortable accommodation for two. Wake to bird song each morning. There are no noisy roads nearby, just peace, quiet and tranquility. Perfect for those who enjoy walking, cycling, bird and wildlife watching or simply relaxing.

Situated in the Yare Valley, part of the Norfolk Broads, close to the picturesque village of Loddon, you can spend your time here either exploring Norfolk and North Suffolk or staying local, enjoying walks on along the Wherryman's Way, Hardley Flood, Rockland and Surlingham Broads, the Ted Ellis nature reserve and local RSPB reserves.

Despite the quiet location we are very close to Norwich (15 - 20 min drive to the city centre). The Norfolk and Suffolk coasts are within easy reach and the delightful Waveney valley towns of Beccles and Bungay are less than 15 mins drive.

About Elena Rockley

Ellie ran a very successful B&B but has now converted the accommodation for holiday let. She and her husband Richard used to keep Kune Kune pigs as pets. Sadly they have all gone now but the name has stuck.

Elena Rockley purchased this barn in 2006

Why Elena Rockley chose Norfolk & The Broads

We moved from Norwich because we wanted to live in the countryside. We love the area because it is rural but not far from civilisation! The river Yare is about a mile from our door and we have lovely views of the grazing marshes from our home. We have a small sailing boat moored at Langley dyke. Otters, marsh harriers, waterfowl, chinese water deer, barn owls can all be seen on the nearby rivers, fields and marshes.

What makes this barn unique

We are ideally situated for walking along the Wherryman's Way footpath. Hardley Windmill is situated along the path and is open to the public during the summer. RSPB nature reserves are a short driving distance away.

Located in South Norfolk we are close to the county of Suffolk not far from the lovely market towns of Beccles and Bungay.

Norwich is a easy 20 minute drive. Southwold is only 40 minutes away.

Beautiful cottage in peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week long holiday in the 'Hairy Pigs Barn'. The accommodation is very spacious, comfortable and clean. It is also well equipped, with lots of visitor information. The homemade cake and tea on arrival was very much appreciated.

We enjoyed exploring the area and found there was a variety of things to do and places to visit that will appeal to everyone.

The cottage is located in a very quiet rural area, we had a very relaxing week and will recommend the property to our family and friends- thank you.

Excellent - peace, quiet and comfort

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent stay. The barn conversion was very peaceful, with all the quiet and seclusion we were looking for, yet was within easy reach of the surrounding villages, Norwich and the Broads.

We were also lucky enough to glimpse the Chinese water deer that sometimes visit the field behind.

Ellie and Richard have succeeded in creating a roomy, tasteful conversion and included everything we needed during our stay.

Thank you.

Idyllic Rural Retreat

  • 5 of 5

A well decorated, clean cottage in a lovely tranquil location, the best we've ever stayed in. You do need a car but it is only a five minute drive to the nearest village and a regular bus service. Thank you for a relaxing break in a lovely environment, we hope to return in the not too distant future.

Hairy Pigs Rural Retreat

  • 4 of 5

I stayed in this holiday for one week (26th September-October 2015) and found the accommodation extremely comfortable, clean and well maintained, and well appointed. It was in a quiet location behind and away from the owner’s property, but with easy access and ample parking. There was also a small garden that overlooked the surrounding countryside and a table and chairs for outdoor relaxation.

The property had many books of local interest and leaflets & brochures to guide the holidaymaker to a variety of activities to suit all interests. A review of the local eating places and hostelries had been compiled by the owner, which contained choices to suit all tastes and pockets. The owner of the property was on hand to provided additional information if it was required.

The rural location was close to the nearby market town of Loddon, which had a variety of shops and interest features, including the river and mooring, as well as historical buildings and a fine church. It also had a regular 20-minute bus service to Norwich and Lowestoft.

Set between the River Yare and the A143 Norwich to Lowestoft, access was easy to other parts of south Norfolk and the coastal resorts, along well-signed country lanes, or on major highways.

I would recommend this to anyone seeking quiet relaxation, and/or with an interest in the local broads landscape and all that it offers.
