About Sophie Barnes

We live and work full time in England. We love France and bought the house last autumn. We intend to visit the house as much as we can, work permitting.

It's a great house in a lovely location and we'd like others to enjoy the house as much as we do.

Sophie Barnes purchased this house in 2014

Beautiful house in stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at this delightful house. The location was ideal for us and all the places that we wanted to visit were accessible.

There is plenty to do in the area; Carcassonne is a must, but recommend an early visit, before it gets too crowded. We went to the beach on a couple of occasions and enjoyed the wide expanse of sand. We ate some fabulous meals out, but also enjoyed relaxing at the villa. There is plenty of scope for walking and cycling straight from the house.

A big thanks to Diane and Kevin for being on hand to help out. We would definitely like to come back and sample a few more of the local vineyards!

Relaxing 2 weeks

  • 5 of 5

What a find! This gorgeous house was just perfect for a relaxing 2 weeks of sunshine, eating, enjopying the local wine and cooling off in the crystal clear pool. The house was more than well equipped and felt really homely and welcoming whilst being well appointed . I cannot fault anything at all. The location being on its own yet a 2 min walk to the village for bread was perfect for us , we left feeling completely relaxed with 2 very happy pre teens thanks to the wifi and UK tv ! We will return

We have just spent two glorious weeks in this very comfortable country house. Furnished to a very good standard and short of nothing. The outside space and pool was perfect we sat sipping our wine and gazing at the sunsets in the evenings and then inside for some British tele and comfortable beds. Close to all the places we wanted to visit and a very good restaurant in the village. If this is the location you want then this is the house to book. Big thank you Sophie.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review - I'm pleased you had a good time, and enjoyed the house. We hoped we had thought of everything you may need on a holiday, and maybe a bit more! I'm pleased you went to the local restaurant across the canal, it is very good, and nice that it's a short walk away. Regards Sophie

A truly exceptional house in every respect and one which i wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

The setting is perfect for sunny days lazing by the pool and evenings spent with a glass of local wine in hand watching the sun set.

Never before have we stayed in such a well equiped house. Everything thing we could possibly want had been provided and more. The house was so comfortable that it felt like a home rather than a rental and we would return in the future without hesitation.

The Canal du Midi is at the top of the road and offers lovely walks to nearby villages. Minerve is of particular note and definitely worth a visit at around a 20 minute drive.

To be honest though, most of our time was spent relaxing in this exceptionally lovely house, savouring our time together as a family and taking the time to appreciate a more relaxed way of living, if only for a little while.

Thank you Sophie and Wayne for sharing your beautiful home.

Great Ayton

Lovely House, Fantastic outside area & Great Bikes

  • 5 of 5

This house simply has everything you could want in a holiday home. The pictures of the house really do not do it justice, the Master bedroom is huge and has its own staircase, and the twin is below the master downstairs, the other double also has its own staircase, on the other side of the house . We stayed as a family of 2 adults and 2 kids and 1 grandparent, so this set up worked perfectly, and all have their own en-suites which is great. The kitchen is fully stocked with more crockery than you could ever use, and there are plastic glasses to use outside which is an excellent touch. The lounge/ diner area is very large (again much bigger than it looks on the photos!) and the UK TV was a big hit the the kids ( and adults!).

The outside area at this property is simply stunning, the outside sofas were fantastic and we sat out every night watching the sun set over the amazing views. There are 3 choices for dining, on 3 different sides on the house. It can get a little windy, but the dining area at the side of the lounge away from the pool was sheltered and undercover, ideal for the more windy days!

The pool was a great size, and there were some inflatables in the pool house, it was used daily and frequently!

The bikes were a bonus, we were unsure whether there would be 5 in good working order, but we found 5 of the 6 bikes that suited our needs perfectly, (3 adults and 2 kids (10ys and 13yrs). One bike had a flat tyre but that was easily rectified with the puncture repair kit we took with us (Always be prepared!!! ) It was a lovely cycle to the 2 villages either side of Paraza, alongside the Canal du Midi or on the roads.

There is a Boulangerie (which is also a Pizzeria) a few minutes walk away, with a very friendly, English speaking Owner, (and dog which loves it's tummy tickled!!). You can order croissants from him the day before to make sure he does not run out, which is excellent. We did not go to the Canal side restaurant but it seemed very popular.

Recommended days out are to Carcassone & Narbonne. The market in Olonzac is particularly good. The nearby swimming lake was popular, but has a stoney beach so take beach shoes. Our favourite beach was Valras Plage, which is 45 minutes but has beautiful golden sands and parking all the way along the promenade for a few euros a day.

We travel to France every year & this is the best Home we have ever stayed in, we never usually stay in the same place twice, but for this house, may make an exception!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the glowing review, we did try to think of everything. You're right about sitting on the terrace watching the sun go down, just fab! Thanks for the tip about Valras Plage, we haven't been there yet, but will make sure we do. Regards Sophie and Wayne

Fantastic Holiday Home in Paraza

  • 5 of 5

The house in Paraza was perfectly lovely, from the first glimpse of the property as we turned down the country lane then on entering the property we were presented with we couldn't have been happier. The property was very warm and welcoming having everything you would want in a holiday home and then some really nice extra touches like the outside seating, where we spent a lot of time.

The house and gardens are in a beautiful setting with views around the property and pool which are lovely, watching the sun setting over the hills in the evening with a glass of wine was simply wonderful. The pool was a great size and very well kept.

In relation to the house we particularly liked the ability to open up the back of the house with the French doors running along the rear of the property.

The rooms were clean, tidy and with good storage. The larger of the rooms at the top of the house was nice and airy. The other smaller room we needed to open windows and have the fan on a little more when it was really hot but were equally nice. All 3 rooms had en suites bathrooms which were well looked after and clean.

There is a small very good restaurant a short walk away across the Canal Du Midi which is excellent. Narbonne is a half hour drive away and is a great place to visit.

We absolutely loved our stay and found it very relaxing and a perfect base to explore the South of France. The owners of the property were very helpful and were able to answer all our questions before we left England. The managers of the property were on hand when needed once we arrived.

Would love to return one day. Would highly recommend.
