Romantic Cottage In The Centre Of Rye Citadel

Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
Cottage in Rye, Sussex, England - Lovely Quiet Cobblestone Street , The Best Location In Rye

A character cottage centrally located in Rye, close to many historic attractions, antique shops, art galleries, ancient inns, and not least within a few minutes walk of glorious views over the River Rother to Romney Marsh. The wonderful beaches and sand dunes at Camber Sands are within easy reach, as is Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Whilst the cottage has gas central heating throughout, a major feature is the log fire in the living room, making the cottage wonderfully cosy throughout the year. The bay windows to the front have window seats with lovely views down Mermaid Street, making it easy to imagine that you have arrived back in a different age! The cottage is sympathetically furnished mainly with antiques, but has all modern conveniences that today's guests expect.

A perfect cottage for a quiet romantic break, My partner and I wanted a quiet few days and this superbly presented little cottage was perfect, everything we needed in a picturesque street in the heart of Rye..

Easy to book, good communication from the owner, Highly recommended and if we stay in Rye again, I wouldn't look for anything else.

What a complete gem!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was just perfect, exactly like the picture on the website including the roaring fire! It was clean and cosy, the kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom and bedrooms were light and airy. Also, you couldn't ask for a better location, it was on the prettiest street in the heart of Rye and everything we wanted like sightseeing, shops, pubs and restaurants were all in walking distance. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be booking again.

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

Just back from a weekend break in Rye. The town is so pretty, lots to do and see. Smugglers Cottage was an ideal base, a really lovely, comfy cottage, great facilities, an open fire, very welcoming. The two of us and our dog had a great time, and look forward to visiting again.

This is the second time I have stayed at Smugglers Cottage and it never disappoints. It is in such a lovely position in Rye and in such a famous street. The cottage is well equipped exceptionally clean and cosy without being too small I just love staying there.

Parking was easy and only £1.50 per day and wasn't too far from the cottage.

Thank you to Michael and his tram for making my stay so pleasant.

Location

From the Owner

Mermaid Street is one of the most famous and loveliest streets in the whole of the UK. We had always dreamed of owning a property here, so when Smugglers came up for sale we put an offer in straight away. What made it feel so right was that it was being sold by a lovely couple who had another cottage in Rye, Froglets in East Street. We had ourselves rented Froglets for many lovely family Xmas holidays over the years. So we knew Smugglers cottage would have been well loved and looked after, and came with lots of ' good vibes '.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Camber Sands is about a mile and a half away, reached either by walking beside the River Rother or a short drive with plenty of parking nearby. The sands and dunes are famous and large enough never to feel busy. Winchelsea Beach is also about a mile and a half away, with pebbles and a large sandy beach when the tide is out.

Travel:

Rye is about one and a half hours from London, easily reached via the A21. Ashford International Station is about 25 minutes away by car, Dover Ferry Port about an hour and a half by car.

Distances:

Rye is ideally situated to visit Battle for the Abbey and famous 1066 battlefield, (16 miles) magical Bodiam Castle, rising out of its moat, Rudyard Kipling's Batemans, Great Dixter house and Gardens, Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, Chapel Down Vineyard, Sedlescombe Vineyard and Carr Taylor Vineyards.

Further Details:

Closer to home, there are numerous attractions on the doorstep, The Ypres Tower, now a museum and built in 1249, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Rye Heritage Centre and Town Model, mysterious Romney Marsh and Dungeness, to name but a few.
