South-Facing Villa With Private Pool And Views Over Golf Course And Hills Beyond

Updated: 08-Nov-2016
Golf de Barbaroux, Brignoles, Provence Vert

Facing south and situated amongst woodland and paved terraces around a feature pool, the villa is a perfectly peaceful and relaxing place to while away the hours if golf is not for you. Situated in the heart of Provence Vert, it also makes an excellent base for exploring this delightful area which has so many picturesque mediaeval town and villages, churches, abbeys, chateaux, vineyards, markets and caves within easy reach, you won't know where to begin. For a day at the coast, choose from one of the 12 quite different coves at Le Lavandou, the long sandy beaches of Hyeres, the charming little fishing port of Cassis from where you can take a boat trip to the Calanques (fjord-like inlets), or the glamour and people-watching of St Tropez. All less than 1 hour's drive south. About the same distance north of Barbaroux is the spectacular Grand Canyon du Verdon, Europe's lagest and deepest gorge. A drive around the top of the gorge is not to be missed and the shores of Lac de Ste-Croix at the base offer the perfect picnic spot as well as the chance to swim, sail, pedallo or kayak for the afternoon. Apart from the golf literally on your doorstep there are several other top class courses in the area, plus Cycling, Walking, Climbing, Horse riding, Tennis, Swimming, Kayaking and Canoeing within easy reach, and skiing in the winter months within 2/3 hours drive. Needless to say, there is excellent wine and food to be had wherever you end up!

About the Owner

I now live in Clifton, Bristol, after spending almost 40 years in the Middle East with my husband. Our two sons were born in Riyadh, did their primary schooling in Abu Dhabi, secondary at boarding school in Warminster and from there to University of Manchester, returning home every holiday to the warmth and sunshine of Abu Dhabi and latterly Dubai. They are now married with children of their own and both families love spending holidays at our villa in Barbaroux. It has grown and evolved over the years into a lovely family house with many happy memories of parties and special events including younger son's 21st, husband's 60th and elder son's wedding along with countless other get togethers and celebrations with friends and family.

From the Owner

At a loss one weekend in Dubai about 14 years ago for something interesting to do, we wandered into a property exhibition to take a look. We had for some time been talking of buying somewhere warm in Europe as a holiday home but had no idea where, and no time to go looking. As it happened we already had holiday plans that year to explore the Cote D'Azure and spend some time with very good friends from our Riyadh days, now living near Frejus, so when we happened across the advertising stand for land purchase/build option on Barbaroux Golf Course so close by, it seemed like fate. We went to visit, loved the area, loved the golf course set amongst vineyards in the heart of the Var, and were lucky enough to negotiate the purchase of a prime piece of land right on the edge of the 9th green!

From the Owner

Having designed La Cheneraie from scratch to take full advantage of the south facing aspect and views over the golf course and hills beyond, we are constantly delighted on each and every visit that it works so well, regardless of the time of year. The atmosphere is calm, tranquil and peaceful and it is pretty much impossible not to relax and enjoy it all. Apart from the pool (in summer) and golf course all year round, the Clubhouse and Hotel complex is a short walk away and offers two excellent restaurants, a spa and pool plus two tennis courts which guests may use by arrangement. Barbaroux itself is situated almost equidistant from Marseille and Nice Airports (1hr and 1hr15), 40 min from Aix en Provence, 1 hr from the spectacular Gorge du Verdon and about the same from the coast.
