The Old Brewhouse Boscastle, known locally as "The Pink House", is built from the traditional local stone, dates from around the 16th century and has been converted to a cheerfully light, spacious, centrally heated cottage retaining its original appearance on the outside. It is set in a little cobbled road with the Valency River opposite, and the famous medieval harbour wall is just a couple of moments walk away. The Brewhouse sleeps six and is in a really lovely location, on the sunny side of the harbour area. At the front is a walled garden with lawn, a patio with picnic bench, a garage with private parking space, and there is a small south facing terrace area at the rear of the cottage. All linen [except bath and beach towels] is provided. There is no extra charge for heating and electricity, and as well as the oil-fired central heating, there is an open fire in the sitting room. Prices are fully inclusive. Dogs are welcome [at no extra charge].There is free wifi available at the National Trust cafe just a couple of hundred metres away down towards the harbour, and at local pubs etc. The Brewhouse is ideal for families, small groups or just couples. The harbour area is lovely at any time of the year, it can be sunny and tranquil, or bustling with visitors and boats, and seals sometimes swim right into the harbour. It can be cheerfully busy, quietly atmospheric or wild and exhilarating - never dull! The village and harbour have a very pleasant atmosphere of enjoyable outdoor spaces. Boscastle is a typical Cornish fishing village, and is considered to be one of Cornwall's most picturesque, with lots of quaint old cottages. Restaurants and pubs with good food are a few moments walk away for when you do not feel like catering for yourself whilst on holiday. There are also lovely craft shops and art galleries, a good baker, small supermarket/ newsagent, and an outdoor clothing shop. Tintagel is close by, Rock, Padstow, Port Isaac, Bodmin Moor, Crackington Haven, Trebarwith Strand and Bude all within 15 miles, The Eden Project, Lanhydrock House and Garden, and Trago Mills not much further so there are plenty of lovely places to visit in the area. When visiting the cottage you can enjoy the sea, lovely wide sandy beaches, dramatic craggy coastline, secluded coves, nearby moorland and wonderful wooded river valleys at any time of the year.

About Leonora Smith

I manage the holiday letting of The Brewhouse for my mother. As well as this, I am a partner in Bookmark Children's Books, selling antiquarian and collectable children's books at bookfairs throughout the UK and by mail-order. My husband and I live in Wiltshire, on the Marlborough Downs. My mother lives next door, and over the years our garden has been turned into a wildlife refuge, which also takes up a lot of our time! When we get down to The Brewhouse, I love to spend time down at the harbour - it is so different throughout the year, but always makes me happy to be there. Boscastle also has several great pubs and restaurants to enjoy of an evening!

Why Leonora Smith chose North Cornwall

On a family holiday to North Cornwall, we were walking past The Brewhouse and saw a "for sale" notice. On the spur of the moment we knocked on the door, and the rest is history! My parents had hoped to visit Boscastle very frequently, but were both self-employed and sadly it proved to be too hard to to earn a living and enjoy the cottage as much as they hoped. It was decided to let the cottage for holidays, which we have done since the late 1980s, with me managing the lettings for them. We still love Boscastle for it beauty, its friendly people, great atmosphere and fabulous location.

What makes this cottage unique

Superb location in the heart of Boscastle, the Brewhouse is set back in the little cobbled alley away from the road. It has a nice big front garden [great for watching the world go by on a sunny day!], and has the convenience of its own parking space plus garage. Great pubs and restaurants just a couple of moments walk away for when you would rather eat out than cook at home. The house itself is spacious and comfortable and in an ideal location for enjoying holidays in Boscastle alone, or as base for visiting some of the lovely places in the area.

This is our home from home! Right in the heart of the village but with parking, huge garden and the most lovely 'secret' back garden when you want a quiet spot in the sun. Highly recommend it to anyone, whichever month of the year you visit. Can't wait for June! Sharon C 2015

Notes on accommodation: We do not provide bath towels, cot or high chair, but can give details of local hire firms. Outside: There is a walled front garden [lawn] with bench, and an enclosed patio area with picnic bench at the front of the cottage, and to the rear there is a secluded small terrace area which is quite a suntrap. There is also a garage plus parking space. All these are private to the Brewhouse. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board, indoor clothes airer, shower, wc and basin, hair dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen apart from towels is provided. [We do provide hand-towels and tea towels] Property cleaned and linen changed weekly. Nearest wi-fi is at the National Trust cafe just 200 metres away.

Boscastle is lovely enough to stay in without a car, but to fully appreciate the area, a car is recommended as the local buses may not easily get you to some places. A coastal bus goes from Boscastle once an hour in each direction north and south, and there are buses to many towns too.

Further Details:

Boscastle has several good pubs, and other restaurants and cafes. WiFi is available at some, including the National Trust cafe very near to The Old Brewhouse. There is a lovely bakers shop, a Spar supermarket/newsagent [with cash point] and good general store/post office, open daily. The garage at the top end of Boscastle is also open daily. Camelford and Tintagel have a wider range of small stores. A bit further away, Bude, Bodmin and Wadebridge have large supermarkets, High St banks etc.

Boscastle has plenty of attractions including the Museum of Witchcraft, Boscastle Old Mill with several interesting shops in the historic old Water Mill, and the Boscastle Pottery.

There are walks for many different levels of fitness: a stroll down to the harbour is lovely.The walk inland along the Valency river is good too - look out and you may see the dippers as well as lots of other birds. The South West Coastal Path offers walks ranging from a short amble to where you can view Boscastle from above, to challenging treks up or down the coast to Tintagel or Crackington Haven and beyond.

The moorland is not far away - you can get access near Camelford and walk to Roughtor, and Bodmin is about a half hour drive away [there is a steam railway there which is a good way to see the locality].

There is an outdoor swimming pool on the beach at Bude and indoor leisure pools in Bude, Camelford and Wadebridge.

Booking Notes:
We ask for £50 per week deposit at the time of booking, with the balance due 4 weeks prior to holiday start date. Payment can be by direct bank transfer, cheque, or debit card. We accept Paypal and credit card payments but this is plus 2.5% extra towards the bank commission charge. We do not ask for a safety deposit, but do ask that you replace any small items which get lost or damaged so that the next guests are not inconvenienced.
Short breaks available - please ask for details. Dogs welcome.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday, arrival time is 4pm. Departure is 12 noon so that the house can be cleaned and prepared for the next guests. Changeover day may possibly be flexible if bookings and availability of the housekeeper allows.

Notes on prices:
Prices are per week in £ sterling. Price is totally inclusive - no extra charges [unless the telephone bill during your stay is high!] . Well behaved dogs are welcome. We accept payment by bank transfer, debit card, cheque, credit card or PayPal.
