About Ian & Sarah Moore

We regularly visit Devon with friends and grandparents. We love the peace and quiet and being able to switch off from our busy jobs. Our children grew up paddling in the rock pools and walking the North Devon Coast.

Ian & Sarah Moore purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Ian & Sarah Moore chose Hartland

We needed to get away from the daily routines.

What makes this cabin unique

We can do what we like! No timetables or schedules. There is variety in the places to visit or alternatively we can sit in the sun and read a book. We enjoy being able to eat in, have a BBQ on the beach or go for a meal or a cream tea in one of the wonderful pubs and tea rooms in North Devon and Cornwall.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Review 1 This was our second stay at the Devon Lodge. The owners personally supplied us with the lodge key and gave us a good briefing on the new facilities at the Lodge as well as information about local places to visit. We were supplied with clear written directions to the lodge via email. This was useful for two of the party that had not been there before

The accomodation is outstanding. There were six in our party but eight would have been no problem. A perfect television picture with free sat. There was also a video and DVD player - All easy to operate -

Washing up was no problem with a full size dishwasher. The kitchen was very well equipped.

Hot water always available at the flick of a switch. We very appreciated the fact that there were waste recycling facilities on the site.

There is a large deck/balcony with seating outside. Great for sitting down to read, playing cards or for meals in the fresh air.

The three bedrooms (one onsuite) are all very comfortable. Simply but tastefully decorated.

Off 'track' parking next to lodge.

We did some beautiful walks that included the South Coast path to Clovelly and the estury at appledore. My daughter and I hired bicycles at Barnstable and cycled 28 miles on the amazing Tarka trail - All off road.

There is a very useful folder at the lodge containg leaflets of the local attractions.

The lodge is in a very peaceful area. Lovely wildlife with the bats coming out at 830pm every day. Also plenty of sightings of Geese and many other birds.

There is nothing to dislike about the Devon Lodge. It is set in a tranquil location but you do not have to travel far for great places to visit. A welcome place to come back to after a long day out. We hope to return soon.

Review 2 We returned this Summer to the Devon lodge. The weather forecast was not good but turned out to be wrong. We were on the beach most days until the evening, the children were body boarding and rockpooling and kite flying. We spent our time at Duckpool, Sandymouth, Croyde and Bude. Fantastic week, would highly recommend. Didn't spend too much time in the Lodge as we were out each day but the accommodation is of very high standard, it was very comfortable, clean and very well equipped for eating in and maps, games, etc.

Review 3 The Devon Lodge is ideally situation for exploring the North Devon/Cornwall coast. There are many beaches and attractions nearby. The Milky Way is a brilliant day out if you have children and we would recommend Docton Mill for a fantastic cream tea

Lovely family holiday

  • 4 of 5

A quite and well appointed property in a great location. Well suited for our family of four plus grandparents. Bathrooms and bedroom all great and the living area was very homely. The children adored the reclining sofa!

Warm, comfortable and roomy accommodation in a very rural location

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in freezing temperatures during a winter storm and were delighted to find a wonderful warm and comfortable chalet. A welcome pack had been left for us and the place had been freshly cleaned and prepared with fresh towels and linen. The chalet is at the furthest part of the park down a rough track and awkward to find. The up side of this is its very quiet and isolated.

The North Devon Coast is about 15 minutes away by car using the A39 . Beaches consist of the popular Bude and Westward Ho! as well as more secluded beaches such as Duckpool or Spekes Mill Mouth. Many beaches are National Trust e.g. Sandymouth. There is access to Lundy Island by boat from Bideford and Clovelly or helicopter from Hartland Point.

A car is essential for a holiday at The Devon Lodge. It takes about 75 minutes from Junction 27 of the M5. Nearest train station is Barnstaple (22 miles) or Tiverton parkway (57 miles) and the nearest airports are Exeter (57 miles) or Newquay (55 miles). Bikes can be hired from a number of places on the Tarka trail between Barnstaple and Torrington or the Camel valley between Bodmin and Padstow.

Wolsery 3 miles, Clovelly 5 miles, Hartland 6 miles, Holsworthy 12 miles, Bude & Bideford 13 miles. Milky Way theme park 5 miles, Big Sheep farm park 11 miles, swimming and ten pin bowling at Bude 12 miles, Hartland Abbey 7 miles, Dartington glass 14 miles, RHS Rosemore 17 miles, Tintagel 31 miles, Port Issac 37 miles, Padstow 47 miles, Eden project 50 miles, Lost gardens of Heligan 57 miles.

Further Details:

There is a village shop in Wolsery and in Hartland. Supermarkets are about 12 miles away in Holsworthy (Waitrose), Bude (Morrisions, Sainsbury, Coop), Bideford (Morrisons, Asda, Coop). There is a Coop in Kilkhampton. There are pubs in surrounding villages which are detailed on our website.

Although on a site of lodges, ours is tucked into the valley and is quiet and remote from the other lodges.
