About the property

Farmhouse in Minard, Argyll, Isle of Bute, Strathclyde, Scotland - Peaceful Location, With Large Garden Overlooking Loch Fyne

Lovingly refurnished by local craftsmen Inverae Cottage welcomes you to relax on a comfy sofa, surrounded by locally handmade ash, oak and yew furniture, finished with cosy Harris Tweed furnishings. The cottage is located in the beautiful village of Minard with breathtakingly beautiful views of Loch Fyne and the local mountains. With four separate outdoor seating zones in the Cottage's large landscaped garden designed to follow the rising and setting of the sun you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner and evening drinks outside, whilst listening to the soothing soundtrack of birdsong. However at times you will need to share...with red squirrel, pheasants, grouse, local deer, woodpeckers, bees and butterflies. At night the dark skies are covered with stars and the moonlight glistens on the Loch. The cottage is an ideal base for exploring this stunning part of Scotland. The Mull of Kintyre (with its long and winding road made famous by Paul McCartney), Crinan Canal, Oban, Tarbert, Arran, Bute are some of the many possible day trips from the cottage.

About Craig MacLeod

Hello, my name is Craig MacLeod and this cottage was bought as an escape from city living. My wife and I manage to switch off here and as we cannot be here all the time we wish to share the cottage's "magic" with others!

I am a photographer and work in both the USA and the UK. My website is craegphoto.com

Craig MacLeod purchased this farmhouse in 2009

Why Craig MacLeod chose Scotland

In 2009 we discovered a run down cottage hiding in an overgrown garden. Using local tradesmen and craftsmen we renovated and modernised the cottage and garden. It is a perfect location to enjoy and use as a base to tour the local area that has undoubtedly some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Peace, quiet, a place to recharge and refresh either by sitting in the garden enjoying the local wildlife and views or by using the cottage as a handy base to explore the local area.

With not a sound at night a restful and refreshing night's sleep is guaranteed.

Absolutely stunning home from home

What an amazing stay in a wonderful croft cottage. Really good quality fixtures and fittings, a really comfy sofa and super comfy bed. We took our 6 month old and there was plenty of room for the travel cot in the corner of the bedroom. A great selection of books and local maps to use. Plenty of logs for the wood burner. Stunning views of loch fyne. Very quiet location.

We would recommend this to anyone looking to get away from hustle and bustle.

A charming cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Our first sight of the property filled us with delight, a charming traditional cottage in a lovely location. The interior was equally charming, well furnished with a good mix of comfortable furniture and modern appliances. Polly had supplied us with easy to follow directions to the property and had presented us with a very clean and welcoming sight. It felt good to be there a feeling that remained throughout our stay.

Lovely cottage, very quiet peaceful location with great views.

  • 5 of 5

A very modern old style traditional cottage , that's really well stocked with everything you need. Aga fire in the living room works and looks great. Settee is super comfy in which to doze after a days walking. TV is a small flatscreen and is adequate for checking tomorrows weather forcast. A great nights sleep is a sure thing in the super comfy bed.

Kitchen is really well stocked, clean and very well laid out. Bathroom is large clean and modern although the bathroom light could do with a brighter light in it . BT Wifi works well , although tends to drop out for reasons unknown.

Cottage is in a great location for exploring Crinan, Tayvallich, Kilmarten, Carsaig .

Overall, warrants the 5 stars and would not hesitate in recommending .

A sweet homely cottage that was relaxing and quite.

  • 4 of 5

We loved the cottage but there was a few things such as the drive up to the cottage been full of potholes and not great for a car. We did ask if the track was ok for cars and we were told is was fine. There were areas of the track that could do with improving and filling in to make it safer for cars. Also there were quite alot of cobwebs and dust in the house which could do with a bit more of a clean. We appreciate it is a old cottage and spiders come with that but cobwebs in door ways ect should of been seen on the clean. Also drying facilities in the cottage are not great as the bathroom is quite damp and nothing drys. An airer to dry clothes on in the sitting room would be better as the fire make that room warm and ideal for drying clothes. Other than that it is a very homely cottage and we had a very relaxing time. The sofa is lovely and comfortable and the kitchen and bathroom have been done to a high standard. Lovely area with a beautiful view of the loch.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. I am glad you had a relaxing time! The access road is a shared farm track maintained by the houses using it - unfortunately, it does get pot holes from time to time which are then repaired. We'll speak to the farmer about these new ones. We'll certainly get a replacement clothes horse straightaway for drying clothes in the sitting room. Best, Craig

Travel:

Glasgow Airport - 1hr 25 minutes away.

Oban Airport - 1hr 9minutes away.

Car hire is recommended to enjoy the surrounding area. Although Minard is on the Glasgow to Campbeltown bus route and Inverae Cottage is a 10 minute walk from the bus stop.

Distances:

Inverae Cottage overlooks the village of Minard on the shores of Loch Fyne, just off the A83. It is a 15 minute drive from Inveraray, 1hr 40 minutes from Glasgow (via stunning scenery including Loch Lomond, Rest and Be Thankful and Loch Fyne), 2 hours 30 minutes from Edinburgh.

Further Details:

Local Restaurants

When you stay at Inverae Cottage you are spoilt for choice with high quality restaurants all serving locally sourced, seasonal produce and all within a 30-minute drive.

Some recommendations are the world famous original Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, the Loch Fyne Hotel, The George and Cairnbaan.

Local Shopping

Lochgilphead, a 20 minute drive away has a large Co-operative superstore, a fish shop specialising in local smoked fish, a butchers selling arguably the best steak pie in Scotland, a delicatessen selling local produce and a fair trade shop selling a wide selection of clothes and gifts.

If travelling via Loch Lomond we recommend Auchentullich Farm Shop to stock up on local produce including local gin and produce.

Locally you can order fresh fish from Aray Fish or meat from Barbreck Farms.

There is a village shop and post office in Minard which sells newspapers, milk, rolls and essentials.

Exploring the outdoors

The cottage is perfectly situated for all levels of hill climbers and cyclists. It is less than an hour's drive to the Arrochar Alps. Less strenuous walks are nearby - some give you a chance to spot sea eagles, seals and otters! Crarae Gardens, a National Trust Property is a 5 minute drive away.

Tyrants, TV Stars and Villains

If you fancy catching up on local history, Inveraray is an ideal place to visit just 15 minutes drive from the Cottage. A beautiful heritage town with Inveraray Castle and Inveraray Historic Jail. The Castle was used as the perfect setting for Downton Abbey in 2012.

Island Hopping

Want to explore Scotland's beautiful West Coast and Islands? Countless day trips are possible from the Cottage including ones to Islay, Jura, Gigha and Oban, Scotland's seafood capital and ferry gateway to Mull, Lismore and others.
