Cottage in Fittleworth, Near Pulborough, West Sussex, England - Incredibly peaceful location. Cottage set in 3/4 acre of gardens. Parking for 6 cars

This characterful cottage is set down a private lane in the beautiful Stopham estate which has been in the same family since the Norman conquest. The cottage sits in its own 3/4 acre of mature, manicured gardens and has direct access to all the public footpaths of the estate. The cottage has recently been refurbished with a brand new kitchen, bathroom and wet room whilst retaining all of its character. It has central heating throughout as well as a log fire in the living room for colder evenings. One of the 3 bedrooms is downstairs with its own wet room, making it ideal for those with less mobility.

It is ideally located to visit the local area. Situated 10 minutes from Petworth, 20 minutes from Arundel Castle, 25 minutes from Goodwood and 1/2 hour from West Wittering and Bosham .

About Jeremy Hirsch

My wife grew up in the area. We now live in London but the whole family has enjoyed many years in Sussex.

Why Jeremy Hirsch chose Fittleworth

The area, but even more the private lane, is very special.

Just to walk out of the front door into the countryside never loses its appeal for us.

We love going into Petworth, either to enjoy the range of shops or have coffee and homemade chocolates in the Coco Cafe or brunch in the Hungry Guest!

The walks are amazing ..from Chanctonbury Ring or simply from our cottage door to the medieval Stopham Church

What makes this cottage unique

Being 5 minutes drive from Pulborough whilst situated in the quietest and prettiest location is a perfect combination.

Also to have a garden of that size, coupled with the fact that there are no houses opposite gives one a sense of being in the middle of nowhere.

At the far end of the garden is an orchard with a very large rectangular trampoline. The drive is spacious and can park 6 cars Utility Room: Second large kitchen with fridge, washing machine, tumbledryer, microwave and exercise bike. Stable door to the garden Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: We provide you with all bed linen, towels, hand towels and tea towels. Beautiful peaceful surroundings, cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

An idilic cottage in a peaceful setting. The cottage is warm and cosy with all you need to live daily. The kitchen is well equipped so you can cook proper meals. The beds are comfortable and cosy. A great selection of board games meant we could put technology on hold and play games and talk. However the technology was there when needed. Having a large dining room meant we actually sat down to dinner and chatted rather than staring at the tv. The dogs loved the large enclosed garden and even though it rained for most of our stay the dogs were content walking around the garden. The owner was very helpful when we needed help and helped us sort the issue very quickly. We will definitely visit again.

The only thing I woukd mention are the stairs, there is a warning that they steep and narrow so would be difficult for those with limited mobility. However there is a great downstairs bedroom and wet room.

Lovely spacious house

  • 5 of 5

Had a super weekend, had everything we wanted. Peace and quiet, loads of space inside, well equipped kitchen and loads to do in the area. In warmer seasons the garden is large and secluded. Highly recommend this cottage.

Beautiful, homely, spacious cottage with real fire and lots of walks from your front door

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this cottage. It is so comfortable with lots of character, space and tons of little extra's. We visited over the New Year period and spent time relaxing by the fire and playing board games. We also went for a lot of walks, mainly from the front door. There are footpaths through the woods and fields to The Swan which does a good lunch. We all enjoyed exploring by foot in all directions. Petworth is the closest town and it's lovely to wander around with lots of antique shops and cafes and there's also the NT stately home and grounds to visit there. Many other attractions are close by, but we were so comfy we hardly left the area. We all thoroughly enjoyed a very relaxing countryside break in a lovely welcoming cottage - Thanks so much!

Perfect Christmas cottage

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated a very happy Christmas in this lovely, comfortable, warm house. It was excellently equipped for all the cooking, eating and drinking and the sitting-room was perfect for present opening and game playing, especially with the tree and decorations kindly provided by the owner.

We had three bracing walks over the weekend in the beautiful surrounding countryside - what more could be needed for a perfect festive celebration?

Birthday Weekend with good friends

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weekend visit. Weather was super cold so we loved the central heating and log fire. We cooked a lot and the cottage had everything needed for big meals and dining.
