3 bedroom cottage set down a private lane in the Stopham estate

Overview

Property

Updated: 30-Nov-2016
Cottage in Fittleworth, Near Pulborough, West Sussex, England - Incredibly peaceful location. Cottage set in 3/4 acre of gardens. Parking for 6 cars

This characterful cottage is set down a private lane in the beautiful Stopham estate which has been in the same family since the Norman conquest. The cottage sits in its own 3/4 acre of mature, manicured gardens and has direct access to all the public footpaths of the estate. The cottage has recently been refurbished with a brand new kitchen, bathroom and wet room whilst retaining all of its character. It has central heating throughout as well as a log fire in the living room for colder evenings. One of the 3 bedrooms is downstairs with its own wet room, making it ideal for those with less mobility.

There is parking for 6 cars and in the garden there is patio furniture as well as seating underneath the huge rhododendron bush, a large trampoline, orchard and barbecue.

It is ideally located to visit the local area. Situated 10 minutes from Petworth, 20 minutes from Arundel Castle, 25 minutes from Goodwood and 1/2 hour from West Wittering and Bosham .

The cottage has Sky TV, fibre optic broadband ,a printer and even an exercise bike!

Wonderful homely house in gorgeous location

  • 5 of 5

We had a very comfortable stay in this charming house. The house was very spacious, very clean, well equipped and just as described.Everything you could possibly need is provided! We had great weather during our stay so made full use of the available barbeque in the spacious and lovely private garden. The owner Jeremy was very helpful and was happy to answer any queries. The house is in a great location to access Goodwood. There are also some very nice local pubs. We had a good lunch at the White Hart, Stopham Bridge.

Perfect little cottage

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage which is fully equipped (it literally has everything you need!) and has many interesting personal effects spread throughout each room.

The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen and bathrooms very modern.

The Sky TV (with movies and sport package) was a bit hit, along with a iPhone docking station/ speakers and DAB radio.

The gardens are fabulous, with fruit trees, a trampoline and hidden benches. The conservatory was a lovely place to have a cup of a tea/glass of wine after a long day walking.

Set in a perfect location, opposite beautiful woodlands in a very quiet private lane.

Excellent Wedding day base

  • 5 of 5

Ashlyns was the perfect base for our daughter, the bride and ourselves to stay for her wedding held locally. The property was clean, tidy and very well appointed with everything we needed. It was a great place to be based for the pre wedding day decorating of the Fitzleroi Barn, and plenty of room for all the wedding day preparations for the bride...hairdresser, makeup artist and photographer. The dining room was the temporary 'salon' and the beautiful large upstairs bedroom was a magnificent 'brides dressing room'. The light was idea for the big moment captured by the photographer of 'putting on that special dress'!! A beautiful garden for resting in the sunshine.

The location, in Fittleworth was quiet and tranquil for the post wedding recovery. We made use of the local Inns for evening meals The Swan and The White Hart and visited Pertworth House, Arundel and the beach at Atherington.

Spacious comfortable country cottage with lovely garden

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is tucked away in a private lane, large spacious rooms, well equipped kitchen and utility room, three large bedrooms and two bathrooms, the bedroom and wet room on ground floor were a godsend. all you want and more for a luxurious stay, we found sitting in the conservatory for our morning cup of tea or in the evening with a glass of wine so relaxing, just bird watching and admiring the garden. There is plenty to do and see in the area, the Swan pub has good food and the Vintage Rose Tea Rooms in Storrington do best scones ever! Fittleworth House had an open garden afternoon and it's a pleasure to see the variety of flowers, trees and vegetables there. We only had a short stay but enjoyed it immensely as did our dog who was welcomed everywhere. Definately worth a second visit.

Lovely house & garden in fabulous countryside

  • 5 of 5

We had a delightful stay in this lovely , comfortable , clean , well equipped house. We were an adult family group with one member in her nighties who really appreciated the downstairs bedroom (view onto the garden) with adjoining bathroom (heated under-floor) and walk in shower. Every room was just as described and even better than the photos. The garden was a delight - we were lucky enough to be there when the rhododendron was blooming - just sensational. The house is set in a lane with some other houses and you are minutes from the countryside paths, farmland , bridleways and woods. The proximity to Pulborough ( shopping/station/fish and chips and restaurants) and Petworth (more shops /deli's /galleries/tea rooms/ restaurants) made it a really easy place to stay . We had great trips out to Petworth House (National Trust with Capability Brown landscape ) , RSPB bird reserve at Pulborough Brooks (lapwings nesting) and the nearby roman villa- but we were always pleased to return and enjoy the house and garden . Jeremy, the owner , was helpful , friendly and prompt in answering all queries and dealing with the booking etc.. He had ensured that there was lots of local information , maps , guidebooks etc in the house. The visitors book in the house attests to many other people who have enjoyed staying there recently . We would definitely recommend this house and owner to others.

Location

From the Owner

The area, but even more the private lane, is very special. Just to walk out of the front door into the countryside never loses its appeal for us. We love going into Petworth, either to enjoy the range of shops or have coffee and homemade chocolates in the Coco Cafe or brunch in the Hungry Guest! The walks are amazing ..from Chanctonbury Ring or simply from our cottage door to the medieval Stopham Church

Facilities

From the Owner

Being 5 minutes drive from Pulborough whilst situated in the quietest and prettiest location is a perfect combination. Also to have a garden of that size, coupled with the fact that there are no houses opposite gives one a sense of being in the middle of nowhere.
