About the property

Cottage in Fittleworth, Near Pulborough, West Sussex, England - Incredibly peaceful location. Cottage set in 3/4 acre of gardens. Parking for 6 cars

This characterful cottage is set down a private lane in the beautiful Stopham estate which has been in the same family since the Norman conquest. The cottage sits in its own 3/4 acre of mature, manicured gardens and has direct access to all the public footpaths of the estate. The cottage has recently been refurbished with a brand new kitchen, bathroom and wet room whilst retaining all of its character. It has central heating throughout as well as a log fire in the living room for colder evenings. One of the 3 bedrooms is downstairs with its own wet room, making it ideal for those with less mobility.

There is parking for 6 cars and in the garden there is patio furniture as well as seating underneath the huge rhododendron bush, a large trampoline, orchard and barbecue.

It is ideally located to visit the local area. Situated 10 minutes from Petworth, 20 minutes from Arundel Castle, 25 minutes from Goodwood and 1/2 hour from West Wittering and Bosham .

The cottage has Sky TV, fibre optic broadband ,a printer and even an exercise bike!

About Jeremy Hirsch

My wife grew up in the area. We now live in London but the whole family has enjoyed many years in Sussex.

Why Jeremy Hirsch chose West Sussex

The area, but even more the private lane, is very special.

Just to walk out of the front door into the countryside never loses its appeal for us.

We love going into Petworth, either to enjoy the range of shops or have coffee and homemade chocolates in the Coco Cafe or brunch in the Hungry Guest!

The walks are amazing ..from Chanctonbury Ring or simply from our cottage door to the medieval Stopham Church

What makes this cottage unique

Being 5 minutes drive from Pulborough whilst situated in the quietest and prettiest location is a perfect combination.

Also to have a garden of that size, coupled with the fact that there are no houses opposite gives one a sense of being in the middle of nowhere.

The ideal getaway!

Just back from a fantastic weekend away in this property. Beautiful house, very homely with modern kitchen and bathrooms. Very clean throughout. Everything you would want in a house and all such high quality. Gardens are amazing! Had a brilliant time playing cricket and frisbee in a beautiful setting. The surrounding area has an abundance of lovely country pubs. We shall definitely be revisiting. Thank you to Jeremy for such a stress free experience.

Lovely, comfortable and happy place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for the weekend with my two adult children and their partners to celebrate my 70th birthday and we had a wonderful weekend. The house is exactly as it looks in the photos and is equipped with everything you might need. The bedrooms are all very comfortable, the sitting room and dining room are spacious and the main kitchen is perfect for culinary adventures! The sun shone and we went for lovely walks in the nearby beautiful countryside. We ate at a lovely restaurant on Saturday evening, The Star in Petworth, where we had great food and exceptional service. Altogether a perfect birthday weekend.

As nice or nicer than advertised

  • 5 of 5

Its all about the owner. Have you ever stayed somewhere with overbearing owners, who are inflexible and controlling about what you can and can't do etc? Well these owners are a happy mix of relaxed nature but caring about their property and they genuinely want you to enjoy your time. So for me, the most important aspect is being able to be free to use the house and treat is as my own -which is exactly what happened. Needless to say, we had a very fun and relaxing time and felt truly on holiday!

House was everything we wished for, clean well equipped, location, and even a Stag Deer in the garden on one occasion. Owner Jeremy was very helpfull and would not hesitate to revisit the property again.

An amazing find!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a glorious few days at Ashlyns whilst on a walking holiday along the South Downs Way. The house is extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated - the beds deserve a special mention. We particularly enjoyed being able to eat in the dining room while looking out over the garden. We were very lucky with the weather and able to enjoy sitting in the conservatory and the garden when not out walking! There are superb walks right on the doorstep and the nearby pubs serve very good food. We especially liked the White Hart at Stopham Bridge. Also a visit to the nearby bird sanctuary was a highlight. We would definitely want to return to this splendid area and lovely house.

Perfect house with superb garden in idyllic location - very good value - we will definitely return!

  • 5 of 5

At the last minute we decided that we needed a few days away in the country and this house looked ideal. We were not disappointed. Near historic Petworth and in the middle of the beautiful South Downs down a quiet private country lane this house is impeccably situated. We had a very smooth booking experience with the owner, Jeremy, who told us everything we needed to know and then generously provided wine and chocolates on arrival. The house is extremely comfortable and has everything you could ever need. We loved the gardens which are beautfiul and enormous and yet well-secured so our dog could run around happily and safely and our son loved the trampoline. It is also right in the middle of the Stopham estate which means you have walks on your doorstep through stunning countryside.

There are luxurious towels and bed linen which make all the difference - the beds are very large and extremely comfortable and the showers and bathroom and kitchen are very well appointed.

This is certainly a 5 star worthy rental and we are looking forward to returning. We were also really lucky to see a lot of wildlife wandering through the garden - rabbits every morning and one day an impressive deer standing looking at us while we were having breakfast !
