This bright and airy self-contained, ground floor apartment was new last season, is beautifully finished, with a stylish, modern fully equipped kitchen, large designer bathroom and situated in an elevated position to make the most of the beautiful views. It is well-maintained, fully self-contained and a private part of the owner’s home, with its own entrance, parking space, sunny terrace, and BBQ area. The location is ideal for relaxing in the hammock, sun-bathing in the comfortable loungers, or lounging in the large pool, but still with easy access for visiting the numerous gorgeous sites of the area.

About the Owner

We both had always dreamed of making that life-change from stressful careers and constant traffic jams, to somewhere more beautiful, peaceful, slower-paced and with gentle, welcoming people and better weather. So we decided to buy a holiday home with a view to moving there permanently at a later stage. We found, fell in love with, and bought our dream house in France in 2003.

We sold our house in the UK in 2011, and decided it was “now or never” and took the scary step of resigning from our jobs, packing up all our worldly possessions and moving here permanently. So now, mortgage-free, we just work part-time and enjoy life.… and we have never looked back!

Beautiful location

After the hustle and bustle of the previous week spent in the La Rochelle area, we really enjoyed being in a more rural location. Jackie and David were perfect hosts, giving us lots of information about the best places to visit and sharing their interesting story about moving to France. The children loved Jackie and David. The garden was beautiful and relaxing. The children played in the pool everyday!

As for the apartment, it was well equipped, beautifully clean and had stunning views.

The location is also fantastic. I needn't have worried that it might be too rural as everything you could possibly need was a short drive away. The boulangerie was a 5 minute drive and Périgueux town (with everything you could wish for) was a 20-25 minute drive. There are plenty of beautiful villages to see and activities to do. It was hard to believe we were on holiday in the height of the tourist season as it wasn't busy at all (apart from market day in Périgueux) My favourite activity was a village BBQ which was brilliant and had a great atmosphere. The children really enjoyed painting with Jackie and the aquapark. It had a couple of slides and lots of different swimming pools but was very cheap and really quiet. My husband enjoyed cycling on the really quiet roads near the the house. Thank you once again, Jackie and David for a wonderful week in your apartment.

Great to be back

Having stayed here in August 2015 and had a fantastic time we decided to return for a holiday this year, as not to repeat ourselves please see our previous review which tells you about this fantastic apartment, pool and lovely hosts David and Jackie, all we can add is that once again we had a fantastic time in this wonderful location. So if you are like us and want a mixture of sightseeing and relaxing days by the pool this place is just perfect. We would like to thank David and Jackie for arranging (as our French is not great) and taking us to a local garage to drop our car off for a repair and then taking us back later the same day to pick it up again. You really did go the extra mile, it was really kind of you, thank you very much.

A great find

Wow what a lovely place, a fantastic apartment, very comfortable with a great swimming pool which our son absolutely loved. There is also a private terrace which we sat out on each evening playing games and relaxing with a meal and a glass of wine. The surrounding area is lovely with lots to do and see. Absolutely adore Perigueux, a place that is a must see. The market at Perigueux is also a must, set amongst the old quarter of the pretty town centre. The owners, David and Jackie were very friendly and welcoming hosts and have thought of everything for the apartment and can give lots of tips on the area. We really didn't want to come home!

A Real Gem!

Our family enjoyed a two week holiday in this apartment. David and Jackie were fantastic hosts; sharing inside knowledge of the locality and even took us to a local music and food festival on one occasion. The hosts also respected our privacy and we were able to enjoy the pool and gardens with ease. The accommodation is of a very high standard in a beautiful setting.

The owners have paid close attention to detail including private entrance, parking, patio and even a pool alarm, making this accommodation safe and child friendly.

There is much to explore in the region. Good food and wine is available and affordable in close proximity.

We would happily return and recommend this accommodation to couples and other families.

Beautiful and Relaxing!

We would highly recommend this apartment to anyone seeking a peaceful and relaxing holiday in beautiful scenery. The hosts were more than welcoming and provided us with a lot of excellent advice for where to go in the area. The apartment was spacious and bright, with everything we needed, including a TV with all English channels. We were also able to enjoy the pool by ourselves. We had a lovely private patio which overlooked the beautiful countryside. We couldn't recommend this more highly and would definitely go back!!

Location

We discovered this area holidaying with friends and loved it. So it started with our noses pressed up against the Estate Agent’s window, followed by evenings surfing the internet! We booked a day with the Estate Agent to view several different properties, but as soon as we found this one we knew… We still love the place, with its beautiful views, peace and fantastic neighbours, now good friends, who helped us enormously. We have been welcomed into the community, and get involved in helping with the village fetes and wherever we can. Our home is perfectly situated, in the countryside, but 10 minutes from all the facilities, and 30 minutes from our beautiful medieval capital city of Perigueux. Plus a choice of nearby airports with budget airlines for whenever we want to visit friends in U

Activity and Interests

Travel:

Limoges, Bergerac and Brive airports are all within about an hour of the apartment, Bordeaux airport is about a 2 hour drive away. We are approximately 500 miles from Calais, and the nearest railway station with connections to Paris is 20 minutes away in Thiviers. You will need a car to get around the area, and cheap car hire is easily available both at the airports and locally.

Distances:

Beautiful Coulaures is our home village, with it’s ancient 12th century church and 15th century chapel. Walk across the fields for your fresh bread and croissants from our friendly village shop and bar/restaurant! Our annual Festival and sensational fireworks in mid-August draws people from miles around.

Historic Excideuil, only 10 minutes away by car, has all the local amenities: bar/restaurants, post office, butchers, wine cave, bakers, a buzzing weekly market and the famous Kitsch Kafe.

Further Details:

The Dordogne is an ancient area with picture postcard medieval villages seemingly around every corner – each with their own summer fetes and Antique Markets to visit. Come and visit our local markets, sample the delicious local produce, take advantage of the reasonably priced fine wines available and choose from numerous fabulous restaurants of the region! If you are feeling active, we have long quiet roads for cycling, woods and trails for walking or horse riding, lakes and rivers for fishing and canoeing, paintball, go-carting and a horse racing course set against the fabulous backdrop of Pompadour Chateau, or of course there’s always the sun loungers and hammock by the pool for relaxing on those lazy afternoons.

Less than 30 minutes drive is the capital city of the Dordogne, Perigueux, with its ancient medieval centre, World Heritage Site Cathedral and incredible Roman remains set alongside modern city amenities including many excellent bars and restaurants, including several Michelin-starred, huge twice weekly market, summer festivals, designer shops, bowling alley, and multi-screen cinema.

There are festivals all over this area in the summer, and we will post more information as dates and details become available.

To secure your holiday, an advance payment of 150 euros is required within 5 days of booking. We will then send you a rental agreement and invoice outlining the dates and amounts for payment.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is on Saturday for weekly/fortnightly bookings. Please arrive any time after 15.00, and, on your final day, we ask you to leave by 10.00 so we can ensure that the apartment is fully prepared for our next guests. *****Exceptionally we can offer a change over day of Thursday 17/08/16 for bookings of a minimum of one week - so make the most of those midweek flight prices!*******

We do not charge extra for a final clean on departure, this is included in the price. The apartment is no-smoking and sorry but we do not accept pets. But most of all, we want you to have a wonderful holiday, and will be delighted to share with you the best things to see and do to ensure you have very happy memories of your visit to this beautiful area. Outside: The ground floor apartment is a fully self-contained and a private part of the owner’s home, with its own entrance, parking space, private terrace and BBQ area. Your sunny terrace has comfortable loungers and a shaded table and chairs for that alfresco dining, and a barbecue is provided. The 120 square metre pool terrace and 10 metre kidney shaped swimming pool with inbuilt seating areas have been carefully positioned to make the most of the view. This terrace, and the pool, can be lit up at night, with clever lighting picking out the feature stones and the pergola with its clematis and wisteria. And when you are ready, the lights will be switched off so, glass of wine in hand, you can admire the stars and spot distant satellites moving silently across the night sky. Because we decided to leave most of our woodland very natural, we regularly see deer in the trees around the house and are surrounded by a wide selection of beautiful birds. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Luxury linen and hypo-allergenic pillows and quilts will be provided plus 1 luxury cotton bath towel and hand towel for each guest. The apartment will be cleaned weekly and towels and bedding will be changed on a weekly basis. Other: The dining table, seats 4 adults and is situated directly opposite the patio doors for coffee and croissants with a view. (The table can be extended if necessary)
