1 bedroom Cottage in Hooke, West Dorset - Peaceful Rural Location, 7 Miles From The Jurassic Coast

The Little House, set in the grounds of the owner's home, is south facing with lovely long views. Situated on the edge of the tiny hamlet of Higher Hooke, this extremely comfortable and stylish cottage is an ideal base for exploring this beautiful part of West Dorset. Catch the last of the sun in the evening garden. Sit out around the fire under the the night sky and listen to the owls calling. A good bed is essential. Most of our previous guests have commented on how comfortable ours is and the feather and down duvet and decent quality linen will assure you of a good night's sleep. There is ample wardrobe space too. In the bathroom, the oval basin, set in a marble top, came from a local manor house. There is masses of hot water and a powerful shower. The simple wooden panelled kitchen is well equipped. Double doors open out on to the terrace. Hooke is a very small village comprising of a cluster of houses, a couple of farms and a church. There are so many walks from your door. In 5 minutes you can be in beautiful Hooke Woods, home to the Architectural Associations Woodland School. Or wend your way past the wood and down through the Mapperton valley, timeless and beautiful, with a lovely cafe at Mapperton House to reward your efforts. Head east, and you reach Powerstock Common and Kingcombe; ancient landscapes, dramatic views. A 15 minute drive gets you to the coast.

Why MELANIE HAMMICK chose Lyme Regis and West Dorset

I moved to Hooke with my 3 children in 2013, having lived for many years on Buckham Down above Beaminster. I had a 'Little House' at my last home, and as it was so popular, decided to build another one here. Having done a lot of work on the house, I am now really enjoying making a garden.

I never tire of the landscape. Breathtaking views, such as the one known as 'Heaven's Gate' on the lane between Hooke and Beaminster, and all the wonderful walking, continue to fuel my love affair with this very special part of West Dorset.

What makes this cottage unique

The Little House is very well situated for accessing all the very many local attractions, yet is off the beaten track. We have aimed to make it a lovely place to come back to after a happy day out, and a peaceful and relaxing place to be, if you just want to take it easy.

Notes on accommodation: We live next door and will do our best to help - otherwise we will leave you alone to enjoy your holiday! We are happy to have one well behaved dog. Our own dog, Mousie, a Cairn Terrier, is very friendly. Outside: The Little House has it's own private terrace and garden with outdoor table and chairs and a fire bowl. Flower beds and herb garden. Please note that the garden is not dog proof. There is plenty of room to park. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen provided. Beautiful location, tasteful decor and fully equipped. Perfect venue for a romantic break for two!

Lovely property, idyllic spot, and much more spacious than photos suggest. Very comfortable and well equipped with great attention to detail throughout. Nice warm bathroom, powerful shower and heated towel rail. Queen-sized bed with lovely soft duvet and lots of wardrobe space. Cosy living area which is triple aspect so very light and airy. French doors lead into garden with stunning views. Melanie, the owner, was on hand, if needed, and seems to have thought of everything - including the delicious tin of homemade flapjacks, (hoping for the recipe!) Beautiful village location, with lots of excellent local walks and great pubs nearby. We couldn't fit it all in to our five days so looking forward to a return visit in the Autumn or Spring. Definitely one of the best places we've stayed on all counts. Strongly recommend.

A Quiet Hideaway

A charming, comfortable little cottage, perfect for one or two people who want solitude and natural beauty. The property contains all the conveniences for comfort and utility, including a washer and dryer in a nearby outbuilding. The furnishings are tasteful and rustic, providing a homey atmosphere. Melanie is a delightful hostess, and was most helpful in providing navigation for a guest who had lost her way! The location is quite secluded, but within a short drive are a number of interesting spots to visit, and some good restaurants as well as scenic walks.

Charming retreat

Lovely well appointed cottage in secluded rural area, a few miles away from Beaminster. Lovely views on the country side and the village is so pretty! Plenty of walks around and only 30 moins away from Abbotsbury gardens which definitely worth a visit. Fab!

Beaminster self catering cottage

Charming property, with everything you need. Very comfortable and homely. Melanie is on hand should you need her (with a jug of milk, for example!) and is really lovely and so were the homemade flapjacks that greeted us! beautiful cottage

A car is recommended, although guests have got the train to Crewkerne and then a taxi here. The local bus service runs twice a week through the village.

Further Details:

This area has a wealth of good restaurants, including The Riverside at West Bay, the Hive Beach Cafe, Hix Oyster and Fish House, Brassica in Beaminster and the newly opened Seaside Boarding House at Burton Bradstock. Within a 10 minute drive from here, there are 3 award winning pubs, The Three Horseshoes in Powerstock, The Half Moon at Melplash and Winyards Gap.

The nearest shopping is in Beaminster (3 miles). It is a lovely old market town and boasts a really good butcher, baker and green grocers. There is a small supermarket, chemist, post office and cash point. Also lovely for browsing with cafes and great gift shops. Bridport is a really fun town and has a great market every Wednesday and Saturday (local produce, plants, antiques and bric a brac, vintage clothes, crafts). In Crewkerne there is a large Waitrose and a Lidl's. There is a petrol station 2 miles away at Rampisham Down.

We provide our guests with an extensive list of information on all the many activities and places to visit. We are blessed here with the most spectacular bit of coast with fantastic walks and lovely beaches, as well as fossil hunting at Charmouth, the famous Cobb at Lyme Regis, The Fleet and Chesil Beach. The stretch from Exmouth in Devon to Studland in East Dorset has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is, in fact, the only natural W.H.S in the UK. Inland there are a wealth of gardens and houses to visit, pretty villages, hidden valleys and stunning hill top views.
