Overview

Property

Updated: 30-Nov-2016
The Cart Shed Compton bassett, Nr. Calne, Wiltshire, England - Peaceful location on the outskirts of the village, village pub about 15 mins away

The Cart shed is a single story property built in 2014 with new bathroom & new kitchen. It has a mixture of modern & old features, tastefully decorated with wooden floors, slate tiles in the kitchen, carpeted bedrooms & lovely old stripped pine doors. It is on our farm in the village of Compton Bassett. You can drive right up to the back of the property and enter through back door into the kitchen. There is also a door going off the sitting room into the garden at the front. Outside there is a BBQ & garden furniture.. Lovely view over towards the village & church,This area is rich in archaeology & natural history. We have found many axe heads & flints here which are displayed in the Devizes museum. On our farm is a scheduled ancient monument which is the remains of a water mill situated in the valley of Aberd Brook with 2 medieval mill dams dating from 1233 which is just 500 meters from the cart shed ( ref SAM 1018613 ) there is also a lovely pond close by which attracts all sorts of wildlife and birds.

relaxation and rest

  • 5 of 5

from the moment we arrived we knew we'd booked the right place for some R&R. Nearest shops / pub approx 5-10 min drive, surrounded by fields, horses and a few dogs the cart house is nicely turned out with a lovely large bathroom /shower 2 large bedrooms and kitchen with all you would need. On arrival there were 6 fresh eggs and a fresh focaccia. Carole was a great host - checked everything was ok and gave some great tips regarding places to eat. Our daughter is petrified of dogs but she started to get used to the dogs around the farm, Upon leaving (20mins dive away) I realised that I'd left my suit from a wedding in the wardrobe but all got sorted with no trouble at all thanks again Carole! Would highly recommend the cart shed for a relaxing stay in a beautiful setting

Peaceful, idyllic retreat

  • 5 of 5

Had the most relaxing weeks break here and highly recommend it if you need to chill out and get away from it all...and let's face it, who doesn't? So quiet with fields, horses, bird and wild life surrounding it. Tastefully decorated and good sized accommodation with all you need for a very comfortable stay. Carole made booking easy and welcomed us with delicious homemade bread and fresh eggs, calling in to check we had everything we needed and to recommend good local places to visit.

Great area to explore, full of interesting history, especially Avebury. I feel sure we'll be back, a big thank you for sharing this lovely spot with us, even for a short time!!

We have just got back from a wonderful break at the Cart Shed. We loved it that much we decided to stay for an extra 2 nights. A quaint little retreat surrounded by fields was just just what we needed to de stress from every day life. Carole is a lovely lady and was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and anything else we may of needed. She covered it all. We would highly recommend this cosey hideaway and we certainly be back.

Perfect spot to relax away from it all

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a long weekend at The Cart Shed in desperate need of some rest and relaxation (despite travelling with young children). The house absolutely lived up to its promises and the pictures don't do it justice. Carole was so helpful and friendly and her fresh bread was a real culinary treat. The house was immaculate, and really felt like a home from home, and we'll definitely be back. We love this part of the UK and visit often and it's wonderful to know we've found the perfect bolt hole. Thank you for your hospitality Carole, and we can't wait to visit when it's warm enough to be sitting outside with a glass of wine!

Location

From the Owner

My husband & I designed & built the cart shed with the help of a local builder in 2014 It was a fun project to do, with a mix of old & modern, wooden floors with slate tiles in the kitchen ( bedrooms are carpeted ) and there are lovely old stripped pine doors. It is on our farm on the edge of the village, it's so peaceful here with great views of the downs, You can just see the village church from the sitting room & the views from the back look to open fields & the wood, there's plenty of wildlife to see! Just 2-3 miles down the road is the white horse pub which does great food & in the other direction is a little corner shop/post office which sells all the basics
