About Rik Harkness

I live in the north east England and have been going to the Algarve with my family for many years.

We always wanted to buy an apartment there but until we visited Lagos and enjoyed it so much we were hooked.

We are a well traveled family that has discovered many parts of the world. Many years ago we discovered the Algarve the only thing i can say is why not sooner.

After spending 7 years in the South of France we thought we had seen it all sadly we had to leave France only to discover the Algarve, and what a find with its abundance of sandy beaches forever going caves & coast lines not to mention excellent value for money restaurants, & shops.

Why Rik Harkness chose Funchal

We are a well traveled family that has discovered many parts of the world.

Many years ago we discovered the Algarve the only thing i can say is why not sooner.

After spending 7 years in the South of France we thought we had seen it all.

Then we found the Algarve. With the apartment being on the top floor with all day sunshine four patio doors that follow onto it, air con, a surround system in each room, so you can all enjoy your own taste of music, the beautiful shared pool with its well landscaped gardens & palm trees.

As well as the video entrance system including pin code to access the property & its own dedicated car parking space if required.

As its location is quiet but at the same time 10 mins walk to the Marina restaurants, beaches, markets & shops. water parks, golf,etc.

What makes this apartment unique

Being on the top floor of any apartment block is a must endless sunshine or you can always go in the shade if you need to, or just take the lift down to the swimming pool.

Or if thats not what you want to do take a walk down to the Marina (10 mins or so longer if you stop at one of the

snack bars on the way down the one opposite Lidls is cheap good & plentiful.

Pass here & you arrive at the Port/Marina where they are endless cruises, water sports, boat fishing, bbq boat lunches, exploring caves by boat, seeing the dolphins, the list is endless.

Opposite the Marina heading towards the beautiful historical town of Lagos with its many restaurants, museums, & very welcoming, friendly atmosphere, the local people love to make you feel at home nothing seems to be a problem for them.

We have visited Lagos on four separate occasions and found this apartment to be exactly as described. We had a fantastic time the apartment was of a very high standard. We are already looking at booking the apartment again soon, fantastic value for money, would highly recommend, very easy dealing with the owner (Mr Harkness) as he was very helpful with dealing with any queries we had.



I have travelled all over Europe with my wife and children and have have experienced the Algarve to be child friendly and great for adults aswell. The apartment is outstanding especially with been on the top floor, having young children the child facilities not just the cot and high chair that is normally supplied the owner has even supplied child friendly cups, plates, etc.

We would highly recommend as nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property will have bed/linen towels changed once a full week booked and is deep cleaned after each individual break. Modern, clean and welcoming just grand for a stay

Apartment was roomy, clean, modern in design, well equipped with everything you need to enjoy a stay. The pool was super and the pool area was well maintained. It was a comfortable walk to the Marina although there is secure parking for a hire car which is necessary to explore the region. There were nice restaurants in Lagos although the nicest place to eat was in Praia du Luz we particularly liked YOLO. Village of Silves is also worth a visit with lunch at the English Cafe near the castle superb desserts. Thoroughly enjoyed the apartment, the town and the area. Rik is a helpful host and I would love to return again which says it all.

Sunny Lagos Apartment

This is a spacious apartment with western exposure and lots of sunshine. It is next to Albi's but also within easy distance of other supermarkets (Continente/Intermarché/Lidl) as well as the Santo Amaro fish market. We stayed for 4 plus weeks and after a couple of days of settling in, it proved quite comfortable. The kitchen is large and well equipped with basic quality items. Supplies were minimal (i.e. spices, bathroom tissue, facial tissue, laundry soap etc.).

The heating system and wi-fi work well and are nice to have (we needed the heating during February). Showing a tumble dryer is misleading as there isn't one. Having said that, the clothe horse works well and things dried quite quickly. The parking space was not available but there is parking close to the building, visible from the balcony and quite secure. The en-suite bathroom has virtually no space for toiletry items so we had to improvise by bringing a small table inside from the balcony.

Overall, we enjoyed our time in Lagos. Good restaurants and lots of opportunities for walking. For a traditional Fado evening, we recommend Calhou Restaurante which is within walking distance and quite safe to walk to and from after dark (Fado every second Saturday evening).

Rik's amazing apartment

We expected a great apartment from the pictures and the reviews on line but were still blown away on arrival. The apartment is so spacious, tastefully fitted out and immaculately clean and comfortable. The balcony is fantastic and the pool very welcoming after day out with temperatures in the 30s. There are so many fantastic restaurants to choose from. In particular we can recommend Emporio Vegetario, really good for non-veggies too. The grotto trip and jeep safari were very enjoyable and we also had trips out on the local train and buses to explore surrounding areas. All in all we had a great holiday and certainly did not want to come home, especially to 20 degrees less than we had become accustomed to. Many thanks Rik and for all your help along the way. Couldn't ask for more!

An absolutely wonderful apartment with everything you could possibly want. The kitchen is fantastically equipped, there are lovely bedrooms/bathrooms, we particularly enjoyed the jacuzzi bath! The lounge is situated so you can experience the beautiful sunsets in the evening. The TV has all English channels plus sky so something for everyone. The sun comes on the large sweeping balcony at approximately 12.30 till it sets. If you are a real sun worshipper the sun is on the lovely pool all day! It took us 15 minutes at a gentle pace to walk to the marina/into Lagos and €4.20 for a taxi back if you don't fancy the walk! There is an incline when walking back to the property which didn't bother us. Aldi is next to the complex with Lidl, Intermarche and Pingo Doce supermarkets close by. Rik was extremely helpful, answering all my endless questions, his only concern that we had everything we wanted and enjoyed ourselves!

AMAZING TOP FLOOR APARTMENT

What an amazing apartment. The photos online don't do it justice. From start to finish Rik & property manager Steve were there at anytime even to the point we had to call Rik on our first evening for advice, he was there to answer our call. This is a complete professional service all the way through. The balcony directly overlooking the pool with it's excellent well kept gardens a sight in itself. We had Sun from late morning till it went down what a way to relax after taking in the sights of Lagos with a chilled glass of Proceso.

Riks apartment is very well equipped especially the kitchen, chacuzzi bath was a nice surprise. Lagos is an unspoilt jewel in the crown, keep up the good work. We are ready planning our next visit.

Amazing!

We're just back from a wonderful holiday in Lagos.

Rik's apartment is HUGE & so well equipped, clean & modern. The balcony was great - lots of space. Wi-Fi was excellent the whole time & a bonus to have Sky TV. Rik was brilliant to deal with from the minute I enquired about his apartment - always very helpful with very quick responses to any queries. Steve from the agency in Lagos was also a great help. The pool is lovely & warm.

Aldi right next door was incredibly handy.

Lagos is a great place to stay - lots of lovely restaurants & the Marina is lovely. The weather was fabulous.

We did the dolphin trip & went to Slide & Splash - great trips well worth the money.

All in all we had a wonderful holiday - no rushing out at silly o'clock to get a sunbed.

Thank you Rik - your apartment was a great place to stay & we really appreciate all your help.

We will be back!!

Coast/Beach:

15- 20 minute walk to the nearest sandy beach, which includes water sports or if you just prefer a beach walk to the picturesque coves all the way to Meia Praia. You will never have a problem finding space on the beach as they are so vast.

Travel:

No car required as all facilities within walking distance. Faro airport 45 mins away, although we can arrange a meet and greet at the airport if you prefer. If wishing to travel further out of Lagos there is a train station by the beach which can take you to several local towns on the beautiful Algarve coastline.

There is also a bus station that runs opposite the marina or there is no shortage of car hiring places or if you are out in Lagos it only costs around 4 euros for a taxi home.

Distances:

Main town of Lagos within 5 minutes walk. Portimao is around a 20 minute drive.
