In a lovely position within the exclusive Sotogrande Estate, and in the heart of the Costa del Sol's best golfing area (in easy range of Valderrama, Almenara, Alcadaisa, La Canada, La Reserva, Sotogrande and San Roque), the villa offers panoramic views, across La Reserva and La Canada, to the sea. The accommodation offers 4 double bedrooms, all with air-conditioning, child's bedroom / dressing room with cot, three bathrooms, cloakroom, spacious living area, well equipped kitchen, utility room with all amenities. (The south-facing kitchen has air-conditioning.) A large, shaded terrace provides a pleasant eating and relaxing area overlooking the large, attractive garden and pool. Comfortable sun beds provide for perfect relaxation. If you can drag yourself away from the pool, there is plenty to see in the area. Tarifa, Cadiz, Jimenez de la Frontera and the White Towns, Ronda and Gibraltar all provide interesting day trips. (To do them justice, Cordoba, Seville and Granada need an overnight stay.) There are good restaurants within a short drive, and tennis, horse riding and a spa nearby as well as plenty of beaches, a new beach club, and a water park less than an hour away.

We bought our house in Sotogrande in 2000 and love spending time there whenever we can.

Why Morwen and Tony Millson chose Costa del Sol (Cadiz Province)

We love the privacy, and the stunning views from our house. It is a brilliant area for keen golfers, but there are beaches, beach clubs and lots of historic sites in easy travelling distance.

What makes this villa unique

The covered terrace, overlooking the garden and pool, is perfect for breakfast, and provides shade at the hottest part of the day for reading or eating. The views over the garden to La Reserva Golf Course and the mountains and the sea are stunning.

Whilst perfectly placed for golfers, the area is steeped in history and not far from the ancient border between Christian and Moorish Spain, marked by the many 'White towns' with de la Frontera in their names.

Lovely villa in ideal location; wonderful gardens and pool for idyllic, relaxing holiday. Ideal for travelling around the area as well as the port. Good restaurants locally and lovely kitchen for cooking meals as well.



We are two families with teenage children and stayed here in July/August 2013. The house was spacious, with everything we needed, and easily accommodated all of us - best thing for us was the fantastic pool in beautiful gardens. The house is in a good location both for all sports nearby - golf, polo, tennis, etc. but also well placed for visiting other areas of Spain such as Ronda and Jerez. Easy flights either to Malaga or Gibraltar - we flew to Gibraltar which was trouble free and only 20 minutes from the property.



Stayed at the villa in August 2014, on arrival we found the villa as described, key in the safe and the house clean, even though other guests had just left. The villa, rooms and open spaces were spacious and easily fitted our group with all our activities. The pool was delightful and when we suggested a portable shower would be an added bonus the owner delivered, as he has done all along. The kitchen was delightful to operate in; we had an issue with one of the two fridge freezers and within 48 hours a new one arrived, the owner and agent were and are first class. As a family which has, for the last 8 years, holidayed in this fashion, we found this the best villa of all to accommodate our needs. Thoroughly recommend this villa and the owner to all. Thanks for a great holiday.

Notes on accommodation: There is air conditioning in the kitchen and all bedrooms. All bedrooms have hair driers. Outside: Well established gardens, extensive shaded patio next to the house, with barbecue, table and chairs, outdoor sofa, coffee table and two armchairs. The private swimming pool (about 10 x 5 metres) is provided with 8 sun loungers. Utility Room: Fridge Freezer, washing machine, tumble drier, iron, ironing board, outside washing line, door to parking area (three cars can be accommodated off road, whilst further parking is possible outside). Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels (including pool towels) and linens are provided, though we ask guests to bring their own bedding for the cot. The property is cleaned, with indoor towels and linens changed, weekly. Additional cleaning can be arranged on request at 20 Euros/hour.

Beautifully maintained large villa

A beautifully maintained spacious villa, equipped with everything you could possibly want in a holiday rental. We were a family of six adults and two children and the accommodation was beyond comfortable. Set in a pristine community, the villa had stunning views, a large private pool, and the local amenities were easily accessible with a car. There were some lovely restaurants in the vicinity, and the marina was well worth a visit. The owners were incredibly helpful and ensured our break ran without trouble. We would happily return!

Great Holiday Great Villa

Had a great family holiday at Villa Esmeralda. The villa was very clean and spacious, and was well equipped, especially the kitchen which had everything you may need. There were great views of the mountains and sea. The gardens and pool were private and well maintained. We spent a week at Easter in this lovely villa and were lucky to have a warm and sunny week with the boys enjoying the pool. Good communications with the owner. Thank you Morwen.

We had a wonderful week & the villa more than lived up to our expectations. A well maintained villa with lovely gardens & pool, in a large gated community. A choice of good supermarkets just 5 mins drive away. We booked within 24hrs of our return for next year!

Lovely villa

We had a wonderful stay at the Villa Esmeralda. All rooms were very clean, the gardens were beautiful and the pool a real treat. The children were very content just messing about in the pool. The property is very well equipped with everything you can think of including hair dryers, ironing board, etc. We had a lovely day at the beach nearby. It had an inflatable assault course in the sea- perfect for the kids! We also had a great day at Bahia water park near Algerciras. The owners are so helpful and provided restaurant recommendations and local places to visit.

Wonderful family holiday in Sotogrande

Villa Esmeralda is a fabulous villa - ideal for a family holiday or golf break. Internally the villa is very well equipped (everything you could need for entertaining and relaxing), and the gardens and pool are well maintained and very private.

Located in an elevated position in Sotogrande Alto, the villa commands fabulous views over the hills and sea (a rarity in Sotogrande) and is in close proximity to Sotogrande's numerous wonderful golf courses and only a short drive to the port of Sotogrande.

We love Sotogrande for its family friendly environment (and golf) and Villa Esmeralda is an absolute gem of a villa. We very much hope to return next year.

Owner's Response: One of the things we like best about the villa is the great views. The mountains are ever changing and really stunning in the evening sun. Sometimes you can see buzzards high in the sky, riding the thermals, and at night you can often hear owls patrolling nearby Valderrama golf course and the woods around.

Coast/Beach:

About 10 minutes drive to the nearest public beach (Sotogrande/ Torreguadiaro). Car parking is available. You can have sardines barbecued on the beach near the car park at the Torreguadiaro end in summer. The beach is clean, with bars and restaurants at either end, and beach bars along the length in summer. Another, smaller beach with fewer amenities is situated near the Octagon Beach Club. Both beaches are sandy.

Sotogrande's Beach Clubs, the Trocadero and Octagon, are about the same driving distance, and for daily/weekly membership, provide all usual beach amenities, including restaurants. Trocadero is amazing and its restaurant serves Sushi, either indoors or on the terrace.

Travel:

The nearest airport, Gibraltar, is about 30 minutes drive. If using Gibraltar, it is best to hire a car in La Linea, and cross the border on foot. The next nearest is Malaga, which provides greater choice in terms of flights and operators. It is about 90 Km away, slightly more than an hour's drive, with a choice of the tolled motorway, or the free coast road. Beware the newly installed speed cameras! A car is essential, as the villa is 5 - 10 minutes drive from any facilities.

Distances:

Guadiaro, Torreguadiaro and Puerto Sotogrande are all about 10 minutes drive from the house. All provide bars, restaurants and food shops.

Gibraltar town is about forty minutes away and provides an interesting day on a clear day, the cable car is a worthwhile diversion. (Again, park in La Linea and walk across the border, then catch a bus or taxi into town or a tour of the rock. Don't forget passports!)

Ronda is about an hour away, with various other 'white towns' from 1 - 3 hours away. (We like Grazalema, which is not an easy drive, but beautiful when you get there, with interesting local produce to buy.) Cadiz (with its Camera Obscura) is about 2-3 hours, and Seville, Cordoba and Granada are nearer 3 hours, hence only worth the drive if you stay a night.

If flying into Malaga, it is worth leaving the car at the airport in the longstay car park and taking the train into the city if you have time to spare. The Alcazar, Roman Theatre and the Picasso museum are all very interesting. Marbella is also interesting, but make sure you are in the city centre, so that you can see the old quarter and the delightful long promenade lined with bars and restaurants.

Further Details:

Guadiaro provides almost all services; including banks, pharmacy, supermarkets, wine merchants; as well as bars, restaurants, coffee shops and recycling facilities. Our favourite restaurant, La Cabana, is between the villa and Guadiaro, follow signs for NH Hotel and the stables.

Puerto Sotogrande (the marina) provides bars, including the Hairy Lemon, which provides televised sporting events, and the Gin and Tonic Club, numerous restaurants and tapas bars, coffee bars, banks, and some up market shops. Outside the marina, there is tennis, and the beach clubs.

Torreguadiaro has an excellent fish restaurant, bars etc.

There are several Polo Clubs in the area. Polo is played largely in the summer months. Two of the best restaurants (La Quinta and Cancha 2) are attached to the Polo Clubs.

Horse riding lessons are available at the Sotogrande Hipica.

Sailing and Canoeing are available at the Marina.

Tennis and Racquets are played at the nearby beach club.
