Stunning Historic 6/7 bedroom London Townhouse Built 1740 in city centre. 2 Min Walk To Imperial War Museum.
INSIDE: It boasts 5 reception rooms with 8 sets of french doors opening on to the mature garden. 6/7 bedrooms with great beds and loads of light, including an amazing vaulted ceilinged master bedroom featuring two sofas and and 12ft high canopy super king bed along with a luxurious marble en suite with a polished roll top bath. It has a bespoke chef's kitchen (150cm double oven with 8 hobs) with cooking area and 3 sofa lounge area looking over the garden, plus an additional separate second kitchen / utility. It is one of the biggest and oldest (reputed to have the oldest door chain in Kennington) private houses in Kennington with some beautiful original features and a layout where you can all group together or have your own space depending on our your needs. Ideal for a large family group, friends travelling together or people who love space. FACILITIES: The house has a house wide audio system so you can pipe music round the house or not, also you can stream worldwide radio and music, as well as having a partners desk in the study, super fast wifi network and numerous TVs. OUTSIDE: We are set back off the road with a front garden with mature trees and are also are lucky enough to have a huge secret triangular garden at the rear of the house (74ft x 150ft) with mature trees, rambling climbers and a croquet lawn, not to mention outdoor furniture and a wisteria clad archway. You can even hear Big Ben chime in the garden whilst the house itself shields street noise. THE AREA: We love the area too - The neighbourhood is one of London's best kept secrets and they regularly shoot films on Georgian square behind us. Too central to be a suburb it is a real authentic old part of central London littered with history, and where so much of it got destroyed in WWII - our house luckily survived. Kennington is in a bubble of land on the south side of the River Thames so in 5-20mins on foot you can get to so many places. We are are just 15 mins walk to Westminster, Tate Britain, and 25 mins walk National Galleries, Covent Garden, South Bank, and Theatreland - plus there's the West End with cafes, bars, clubs and restaurants accessible by foot or taxi. We are even right next to (1min walk) to the Imperial War Museum and park. The bus network virtually goes everywhere form the Imperial war Museum and Lambeth North Tube or Waterloo are the nearest underground stations.

Beautiful house in a great area.
About the Owner
We love Historic buildings and love London. Our fundamental belief is a house should be a home for whoever is enjoying it. Having just finished restoring this amazing house we have hopefully made it like a home from home for friends, family and guests who rent the house. It is furnished to be lived in (comfy sofas and beds) with modern luxury (house sound system, TVs, networked WiFi etc) but also has some amazing period charm (restored architectural details) and decent but robust and useable furniture.
Guestbook comments from the owner
"An amazing one of a kind house - pretty as a dolls house and big enough for a whole family to spread out in! Would recommend it in a second and can't wait to come back. You won't believe how central you are (we saved a fortune on taxis)." Keya J.
"So, so central. So so, comfortable. Thank you so so much! We walked everywhere and when we got back in everyday had oodles of space to chillax in." Susan S.
"Beautiful decor and a real home from home. We felt so special knowing the prettiest house on the street was all ours! A real hidden gem." James J.

Beautiful house in a great area.
Our family spent five nights in this beautiful house in late October. Both Damian and the house manager, Anna, were extremely helpful with information and check in. They even helped by placing a grocery order and getting the food stocked in for us. We had 10 adults in the house but never felt crowded. The spaces to gather are large and the garden is lovely. Truly a much better way to see London than in hotel rooms!
The house is magnificent. We were 13 and everyone had his own privacy when wanted. The garden in the middle of London is a huge bonus.
Location is excellent.
The whole booking procedure and communication with the owner was pleasant.
The house manager was very helpful.
However, the house is not air-conditioned and was very hot during the days. That should be considered when booking a summer vacation.
There were also some maintenance problems that should be taken care of.
Central London luxury in this charming and characterful townhouse - a rare gem!
I cannot rate this house highly enough. We booked to stay here based on two reasons.
Firstly, the property is located close to the centre and we were keen to visit the cultural highlights of the capital city. The house did not disappoint in this respect, and being so close to the Imperial War Museum (literally round the corner) it was rather lovely to start our day with a coffee here, or on the Southbank. We sometimes took the tube (to South Kensington, or to the City) but mainly enjoyed walking to Westminster and up to Trafalgar Square, beyond to Covent Garden. We felt like we were truly in the city and could enjoy the ambience and atmosphere of London life. We were able to come back to the house, relax and spread out. It has all mod cons, internet, sonos etc. It is an amazingly large and quiet property, considering it is in the centre of London.
Secondly the very look of the property intrigued and excited us. Once again the house was as we imagined, if not better. London is full of terraced houses but this particular Georgian house is detached. The interior retains many period features, fireplaces, cornices but also combines this with luxury contemporary living. The master bedroom and separate master bathroom are to die for, with high ceilings, chandelier and (bathroom) free standing bath. Infact, whoever restored and dressed this property has an eye for detail and has managed to conserve the original beauty of the style, updated with contemporary artwork and furnishings. We found everything in good order, fresh clean linen, mirrors and table tops sparkling. I must also mention the wonderful and tranquil garden. Honestly, you wouldn't know you were in London, it is lush and green and full of singing birds!
I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone. Thank you to the owners for a truly memorable London vacation.
We had an amazing time! We were a large group who had everything at our disposal in this beautifully decorated home. The area was great, grocery shopping was around the corner and just outside the door. We walked to see all the London sites simply because we could (it was pretty close to everything). 2nd day we used the hop on hop off bus to see the rest or what we missed. The property came with everything: full kitchen where we cooked nightly, bathrooms, bedrooms and laundry. It also came with a manual with a lot of information to make our stay easier. It had a lot of suggestions as to where to go, eat, how to get around... Parents really enjoyed our private time upstairs and outdoor in the beautiful gardens. The kids enjoyed the downstairs to themselves. There was plenty of room. Both Anne and Damian were helpful.
If we get to London again, we would certainly stay here!
Fantastic and just as advertised
We had nine adult family members and everyone enjoyed the property. The owner and owner representative was very helpful and made moving in and leaving seamless. The property was beautiful and clean. Location made getting into the city very easy. We all would stay there again. Excellent
Outstanding and highly recommended
Great Central London location-walk to all the important sights. Basic grocery supplies immediately adjacent; restaurants and pubs close by; house is marvelously equipped; bedrooms are private and we slept 11 comfortably; open and spacious kitchen, family and dining rooms. If you have a group of up to 12 people, this is the place for you. Owner and manager very pleasant and helpful.
From the Owner
“THE HOUSE: It is a unique historic town house - stunning to look at, huge inside, and in a brilliant location for enjoying London - it was love at first sight - we were the first people to buy it since it was originally built by the original owners in 1740. THE LOCATION: Kennington is true historic part of Central London and it's architectural pedigree whilst also being a modern part of London living community, with loads of restaurants and bars (recommend playing boule on Cleaver Square on a Wednesday). Best of both and central!”

Special interest holidays:
Ideally located for Museums and Cultural trips to London and people and families who love the theatre, London history but also want a combination of historic architecture of special interest and large living space to enjoy.
London's busy all the time so if you fancy escaping for a day trip it is about 50-90 min depending on your destination train journey to the South Coast - best places we think are Brighton, or South End on Sea.
Heathrow (30mins from Paddington station), Gatwick (30min from Victoria station). Great Public transport just outside the house by underground/metro, bus, taxis. 5-20 min taxi ride gets you almost anywhere in central London from Harrods to Borough Market, V&A museum, Tate Museums, West End, Theatreland, Soho and Covent Garden. Amazing location. Also just 15min walk to Waterloo station for speed trains to the south coast. Car not needed. Nearest Underground station is Lambeth North 5mins walk
These are all by foot! (Taxis/buses even faster): Imperial War Museum (2min walk). The Thames River bank (10min walk). Parliament / Westminster / Imax / Old Vic Theatre / South bank / Tate Britain (15min walk). Covent Garden / Theatreland / Borough Market (25mins walk).
We love the area - The neighbourhood is one of London's best kept secrets and they regularly shoot films on Georgian square behind us (Women in Black II was the latest). Too central to be a suburb it is a real authentic old part of central London littered with history, and where so much of it got destroyed in WWII - our house luckily survived. Kennington is in a bubble of land on the south side of the River Thames.
