About the Owner

We first fell under the charm of Kalkan in 2009 when we thought it might be a good idea to find a property in a sunny place to retire to. My husband is a Geophysicist and travels the world and I worked until recently as an Occupational Therapist. We live in rural North Wales close to Snowdonia National Park. We have two teenage daughters and three dogs.

Wonderful villa with amazing facilities and views

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks at Villa Amelia. The owners have thought of practically everything from the luxury of the interiors to helping us to arrange our taxis from/to the airport with a local contact to having a water machine in the kitchen to save you lugging bottled water to the villa! It was lovely to be welcomed by Ibo (late in the evening) who enthusiastically showed us around the villa (and his amazing handiwork in putting in the new kitchen)! He was there whenever we needed him and along with the cleaners was always very polite and helpful. We loved the pool and the jetstream provided lots of energetic swimming! The location for us was perfect with the gentle stroll into town (and the odd taxi back to assist my elderly mother)! The roof terrace was a very relaxing and cool place to be in the late afternoon and early evening and the views were spectacular right across the Kalkan bay and town. The owner was very helpful before we went, answering all our (many) queries and putting us at ease with staying at the villa. Kalkan is a lovely fishing village which has still managed to retain its charm and friendliness. This was our 9th time in Kalkan but our first in a villa rather than a hotel and we would definitely return to Villa Amelia and would highly recommend it, Thank you for our lovely relaxing holiday.

wonderful villa

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for two weeks over Easter and had a wonderful stay. The villa has everything you need and is within easy walking distance of the shops and nice restaurants. We stayed slightly out of season but had great weather. On the cooler days it was great to use the heated pool. We really enjoyed the terrace and spent the evenings playing cards with the children and enjoying watching the sun go down. Grover met us on arrival and was there to answer any questions. He also arranged our airport transfer as well. I would definitely recommend this villa.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review I am really pleased you enjoyed your stay you were the first people to try out the new water heater for the pool as it would probably be too cold to use the pool this time of year without it!

From the Owner

I can remember seeing quite a few characterless villas which lacked soul along the mediterranean coast of Turkey in our search for a holiday home. I can still remember that drive over the hill and that first glimpse of Kalkan Bay and we immediately felt at home. It took us a couple of trips to find the right property in Kalkan. Whilst views are important in Kalkan so is position. In Villa Amelia we have found both. The property although recently renovated retains the charm of an older style property. It has fabulous views from the roof terrace yet is situated in quiet residential area and has a very short level walk into town.

Activity and Interests

Car: not necessary

Special interest holidays:

The region is famous for the ancient Lycian Way popular with walkers and hikers. PADI diving courses are available to book. The bay has a blue flag award for cleanliness so is good for all water sports. Turkish cooking lessons are also available by prior arrangement.

Kalkan has many popular beach clubs. The nearest beach club is Yali beach club about a 10 minute walk. From the harbour you can catch water taxis to Palm Beach, Patara Prince Beach, Villa Mahal and Kalkan Park beach clubs. The nearest sandy beach is Kaputas, with turquoise crystal blue water just five minutes away by car/local bus. The 18 km sandy beach is a 20 minute local car/bus ride. Some beach clubs provide a pick up service.

The Nearest airport is Dalaman which it about 90 mins away. My contact in Kalkan can organise a direct taxi transfer or arrange car hire for you. An alternative airport in Antalya which is about a 2-3 hour drive depending on conditions. A car is not necessary for staying at the property and a car can be hired on a daily basis if required if you want to arrange your own trips out. Parking is provided.

The nearest town is Kas a 30 minute drive. The scenery along this coastal road is stunning. There is a huge new marina in Kas which gives it a more cosmopolitan atmosphere. The nearest large town would be Fethiye a 45 minute drive worth a visit to the fish market.

There are many historical sites within a 45 minute drive of Kalkan including Xanthos, Tios and Pinara.

Other places of interest are Sakikent Gorge, and the traditional villages of Bezirgan and Islamlar in the mountains.

Further Details:

The Taurus mountains are the back drop to Kalkan, and you can visit many of the ancient sites and medieval villages. There are many companies in the village organising day trips, jeep safaris, canoeing trips, mountain biking, visits to ancient ruins, day trip to Meiss a Greek island. Everyone should experience a gulet boat trip around the stunning coastline and bays of this region. You can swim in the stunning waters of the famous Patara beach, only 15 minutes away, which is located amongst the ancient ruins of Patara, miles of golden sands surrounded by pine trees. There should be plenty to keep all the family happy.

Kalkan is famous for its small winding cobbled streets leading down to the harbour. There are many excellent restaurants many on roof tops as well as some interesting shops. The village is protected from mass tourism so its charm is maintained.

When it is really hot a short drive up the mountain to Islamlar to visit the trout restaurants can be a welcome break from the heat on the coast.

If you would like to hire a chef to cook you and your friends a meal at home this can be arranged but be sure to mention it when booking as the chef is very busy in peak season.

From the Owner

We have found this short walk to be entirely liberating for us as at home any trip out normally involves at least a 30 mile round trip. We are normally accompanied by at least four teenagers on any trip to Kalkan. We do not have to act as taxi driver as they can easily walk into town for a meal or to go to the beach club. The heated pool really has extended the letting season for this villa. Swimming now from March to November! Since we have added the roof terrace shade and roof kitchen we have had guests comment on how well it works for intergenerational living or perhaps two couples sharing a holiday. Perfect for young families who want to bring grandparents along but retain some privacy or independence from each other.
