This self catering cottage near Loch Lomond, Scotland provides luxury self catering accommodation for 4 people in 2 bedrooms, which can be double or twin as required.

Sunny and south facing, Ballat Smithy Cottage is the ideal base for a self catering cottage holiday in Scotland, located only a short distance from the world famous 'Bonnie Banks' of Loch Lomond, and equally close to Rob Roy Macgregor's Trossachs homeland; Stirling and Glasgow are a half hour drive away, Edinburgh and Perth one hour, and much of Argyll, Perthshire, Ayrshire and South East Scotland is accessible in less than two hours. For those who do not wish to venture too far there are many wonderful scenic drives, walks and attractions close to the cottage.

Dating from the late 18th Century this charming cottage is ideally situated in lovely countryside midway between the tranquil east banks of Loch Lomond and the breathtaking grandeur of the Trossachs; a very central base for walking in Argyll, the Trossachs, Perthshire and the Southern Highlands. Golf, fishing, cycling, horse riding and numerous other activities are all nearby.

What makes this cottage unique

The rental includes everything, heating, hot water, electricity, bed linen and towels - we do not impose extra charges on our guests. The cottage kitchen has coffee, tea, etc and guests receive our welcome pack of home made, local and Scottish provisions. The owner is on hand to help you choose what to do and to answer any questions you may have. The cottage is in a beautiful scenic setting, and our location makes it easy to explore Scotland's wonderful landscapes, historic places and lively cities.

Friendly welcome. Generous welcome pack - we had a lovely cooked breakfast. Both bedrooms comfortable. Beautiful daffodils on the bank behind the house. Very well positioned for getting about because it is on the main route. Secondary glazing so the cars did not keep us awake, although people do drive fast. Very well equipped kitchen. Everything clean, tidy and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Nearest village is Drymen, 5km. Loch Lomond east is 10km, and Loch Lomond south (Balloch) is 17km. Glasgow & Stirling are 30km and Edinburgh is 90km.

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are internationally recognised as being among the most beautiful and romantic places in the world, and there is something for everyone here:

Walking: There are walks to suit everyone, high or low level,

long or short, easy or strenuous. By the banks of the Endrick Water or Loch Lomond, Queen Elizabeth Forest, Country Parks, Nature Reserves. Many sections of the West Highland Way are easily reached.

For hillwalkers there are 'easy' hills such as Ben An, to more difficult such as Ben Lomond, The Cobbler or the mountains of Perthshire. Walk Highlands has comprehensive information.


There are the world famous Championship courses at St. Andrews and Gleneagles, and many smaller local courses, for example at Aberfoyle, Balfron, Buchanan, Strathendrick, Callander, Stirling.

South of St Andrews are the lovely links courses at Crail, which we can highly recommend.

Cycling: The cottage has a secure storage area for bikes, or they can be hired in Drymen and Aberfoyle. There are numerous very good routes in the Queen Elizabeth Forest, around Callander

and from Drymen to Balloch and Aberfoyle.

Riding: There are several British Horse Society and TRSS Approved Trekking and Riding Centres within travelling distance of the cottage. Please ask for details.

Fishing: For salmon, trout and pike on the Endrick and Loch Lomond; trout on the Lake of Menteith; there are also several local fisheries.

Watersports: Go Country offer a wide range of activities on Loch Ard.

A starter pack of homemade, Scottish and Fair Trade provisions is

included in the price of the cottage.

The kitchen cupboards are stocked with everything you might need for cooking: salt, pepper, flour, oil and stock cubes; and we also supply Fair Trade tea, sugar & ground coffee.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is usually Saturday but we can often be flexible so please ask. Short breaks are available outwith peak times.

Check in any time after 16.00, and check out is by 10.00 on day of departure.
