About Maxine Simpson

We have a true passion for wildlife and have planted many hedgerows and wild flowers to provide food and cover in the garden and on the surrounding land.

We have experienced, in the past, expensive yet low grade holiday accommodation which has ruined our holidays and so have strived to ensure that guests will not be dissappointed with our home. We want everyone to enjoy the house and gardens and we will be happy to help you in any way to ensure you have a fabulous holiday.

A Pet sitting service is available on request.

We can email an information pack and a list of places of interest within driving distance.

Why Maxine Simpson chose Plouguernével

We bought the property because we were blown away by the views and the central location giving us easy access to so many places of interest to visit and the close proximity to the Lac de Guerledan and the Nantes/Brest Canal.

Excellent gite, super owners.

  • 5 of 5

A warm welcome to a well equipped gite from the experience of many. A great location to tour Brittany in all directions. The close locality also has many pleasant attractions and days out. Dean and Maxine were most helpful and flexible. Would not hesitate to recommend if rural France is your taste.

A corner of paradise

  • 5 of 5

Having previously lived in this area for 5 years, we wanted to experience life here again so booked 3 weeks in May & 3 more in Sept. We found the house spotless, spacious, beautifully furnished and had everything you could possibly want, as it is a real home and not a holiday gite. The garden is lovely and private, perfect for living outdoors and a safe haven for children to play. Although we were surrounded by idyllic countryside, Plouguernevel boasts 3 main supermarkets on the route to Rostrenen, whilst nearby Gouarec (5 mins. by car) has all the amenities you require. I would add that this is an excellent base for house-hunting in that area. There is already a big English community around Rostrenen and the Tourist Office in Gouarec houses an association for integration (AIKB) where you can find English speakers ready to help with administration issues, info. on schooling, and even French lessons.

The house used to be a café at the crossroads, and has been lovingly restored by Maxine & Dean who gave us ever such a warm welcome. We now look forward to notre retour in September.

Home from home

  • 5 of 5

Maxine and Dean's farmhouse is just like home from home. It has been beautifully restored and has everything you need for your holiday. There are lots of places to visit within an hours drive and we went out sight seeing every day. Our favourites were Dinan, Lac de Guerlédan ( we were lucky enough to be there whilst it had been drained) and the Pink Graphite coast. The farmhouse is a perfect base to return to and we had lots of barbecues in the lovely garden. The wildlife round here is fantastic and we saw buzzards, barn owls and bats. Maxine and Dean are wonderful hosts and can't do enough for you. A lovely relaxing holiday and highly recommended.

A fantastic farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

Recently renovated to a very high standard. Home from home. This farmhouse is very well equipped and clean. It is situated in a lovely quiet location. The property has a lovely big garden with lots of wildlife around. Looking out onto fields all around. We saw an owl and a deer on our evening walks. You cannot fail to relax here. There is wifi in the house and Sky TV, so if you do need to catch up with emails or would like to watch English TV, it's all at your fingertips.

The best bakers are in Plouguernevel, 5 mins drive and a supermarket in Rostrenen 10 mins drive. We had lots of bbq's and ate in a local restaurant one night and had a takeaway pizza, which we can definitely recommend. There is lots of information in the farmhouse of where to visit. The best beach on the north coast is les Rosaires a 45 minute drive. There are also various lakes nearby and the Nantes Brest canal. All well worth a visit.

Dean and Maxine are very welcoming, a lovely couple who will help with anything. Lots of good food, wine and weather. Perfect for a relaxing holiday and would certainly recommend this farmhouse. We will definitely return as a family (2 teenagers) or as a couple.

Sehr schön und ruhig

  • 5 of 5
