The apartment opens onto the front garden with lovely views of the Kent estuary

Updated: 19-Oct-2016
On the Kent estuary in South Lakeland - lovely views, shore walks, close to village pubs, shops and railway station.

A delightful ground floor holiday apartment. The apartment can be accessed directly from the

front garden, which overlooks the Kent estuary at the head of Morecambe Bay. Arnside, with is neighbouring village of Silverdale, is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with ancient woodlands, limestone pavements and cliffs, and rocky hills. There are nature reserves managed by the RSPB, the National Trust, Natural England, and Butterfly Conservation. Among the innumerable public footpaths, are walks around the shoreline of the estuary and the north part of Morecambe Bay.

The historic town of Kendal is a 20 minute drive away, with access from there to all the Lakes and fells of the Lake District. It is 15 minutes drive from the birdwatchers paradise of Leighton Moss. There are good train and bus services to neighbouring towns including Lancaster.

About the Owner

Val Stevens lives in the neighbouring village of Silverdale. We have had an apartment in Arnside for 24 years before we retired up to the North-west, and really grew to love it as we had so many great holidays here. We are in our seventies, great gardeners, love the outdoors, take part in local activities (choir, bridge, Natural History Society, WI) and try to stay fit!

Good Clean property ideal base of exploring lakes

  • 5 of 5

Great property, fully equipped with everything we needed, clean and tidy throughout. Val, the owner provided great communication. Lovely view across the estuary. Ideal base for exploring local area and up into the lake district. We even ventured further a field with day trips to Blackpool for the children. Would recommend this property as great base for exploring local area and beyond. Good amenities in village, tried local pub, good food but would recommend booking a table as gets very busy. May use property again if looking to stay in similar area for holiday in the future.

From the Owner

We had a different apartment in Arnside, but it involved a lot of stair-climbing! So we sold that and bought the one on The Promenade. Here, you are only yards from the estuary and the wonderful views across to the hills. It is so easy to get to, and, for anyone with mobility problems, it's so easy to access and to move around in. It is also really close to convenient shops and a good pub, and yet the area is so peaceful.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : at 100 Metres Nearest Golf : at 3 Miles Nearest Train : at 400 Metres Nearest Motorway : at 4 Miles Nearest Restaurant : at 100 Metres Car: not necessary

The property is right on the coast, and on a hot day people can be seen paddling. But this is not a beach but a tidal estuary and the twice-daily tides sweeping in are an added attraction.

Travel is by train (the line from Lancaster to Barrow) or by road.

This is a village location, where most day-to-day puchases are available. Two pubs very close with excellent meals. Larger shops at the nearby market town of Milnthorpe (3 miles), and all facilities including a leisure centre can be found in Kendal 20 minutes drive away. Carnforth (railway heritage centre) is 8 miles way and has several large supermarkets.
