Savoyard Chalet With Fabulous Mountain Views

Overview

Property

Updated: 24-Nov-2016
Ski Chalet La Clusaz and Grand-Bornan in St. Jean de Sixt, Annecy, Haute Savoie, Rhone-Alpes, France - Easy Drive To Ski Slopes. Wonderful mountain walks straight from the door. Village 10 minute walk

This delightful chalet, sits above the small village of St. Jean de Sixt between La Clusaz and Grand Bornand, was restored 5 years ago to make a cosy and attractive second home for the owners. It shares glorious mountain views and sunsets with its cosmopolitan chalet neighbours (French, English, Swiss), and it is an easy drive to the ski slopes. At the bottom of the hill the residents are well served by St. Jean de Sixt, with two bakeries, a small supermarket, homeware shop, chemist, doctors, post office (with cashpoint) and some restaurants. Approximately ten minutes down the valley is the market town of Thones, with larger supermarkets and a good range of shops. The beautiful town of Annecy (Venice in the Alpes) is 30 minutes by car - well worth visiting, summer or winter. The Aravis mountains have over 200 Km of groomed pistes and a varied lift system to suit all standards of skiers, as well as some interesting off-piste, ranging from the scenic to the jaw dropping! In the summer the Aravis is fabulous for families with lots of outdoor activities, whether walking, climbing, cycling, luge runs, swimming, tennis, horse riding, zip-wires, small children's play activities and some great 'go apes' in the trees. Something for everyone. The Aravis also boasts some of the best restaurants in the Alpes, and the people are friendly and welcoming.

About the Owner

We have had a second home in and around La Clusaz for the last ten years, and have enjoyed lots of family holidays with children and grandchildren, both in summer and winter.

It is a truly beautiful place in all seasons, being picturesque and not too over-developed, and still remains typically French, which is why we love it here so much.

We still ski in the winter, and walk or cycle in the summer, even though we are both in our mid-60s now.

Share the joy - it is a great place for a holiday, summer or winter....

Beautiful family chalet with stunning views!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful family chalet in a nice quiet location with a great living space and STUNNING views. Good facilities as described and all in working order. Location is just outside La Clusaz and an easy drive to Geneva. We had a fantastic time and would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful chalet and an amazing ski holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Chalet was as described, beautifully maintained and a pleasure to come home to after a hard day's skiing! Kitchen and facilities easily coped with our large group, lounge was ultra cozy with log burning stove, beds were comfortable and the views from the balcony were amazing - loved sitting out there! Spoilt for choice in terms of skiing. We were a group of very mixed abilities and there was something for everyone. Hired a couple of fantastic ski guides recommended by the owners. Had some amazing restaurant experiences too - particularly loved La Ferme in La Clusaz just down the road. Highly recommend!

Perfection !!!! A stunning home.

  • 5 of 5

A fairy-tale traditional chalet standing in a quiet hamlet just a short stroll above the unspoilt Savoyarde village of St. Jean de Sixt. We loved the ambience of this chalet, everything about it was perfect. A haven of tranquillity after a long day's hiking. Everything is available in the village, a hypermarche is only a few minute's drive. There are several inexpensive restaurants and at least 2 boulangerie. La Clusaz is only 2 km away, too many fabulous mountain restaurants to mention and world-class hiking and mountain biking, all serviced by numerous lifts. We have booked the chalet for January, the skiing looks awesome. In summary, a beautiful property with the feel of home the minute you walk through the door.

Location

From the Owner

Our brief was to find somewhere less than an hour from a major international Airport so family could easily visit, and we fell in love with the Aravis area. We are both keen skiers, and there is something for everyone - whether beginners or advanced. In addition we have many local friends now, and the quality of life is second to none, with fabulous scenery, great ski-ing and outdoor activities, and wonderful restaurants. It is also extremely well located with lots of ski-ing within an hour or two - Chamonix, Courmayeur, Les Saisie, Megeve, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Morzine, les Trois Vallees...

Activity and Interests

Travel:

Geneva Airport is one hour by car, and Chambery Airport is about one and a quarter hours by car. Four wheel drive or chains are recommended in the winter as the chalet is up a hill from the village of St. Jean de Sixt.

Distances:

Village of St. Jean de Sixt from the chalet 1km (walkable up and down if fit!) - La Clusaz 3km, Grand Bornand 3km, Thones 8km, Annecy 20km.

Further Details:

This area of the Alpes has some great restaurants, and there is a book of recommendations in the chalet. There are also excellent shops for food and wine, if you prefer to eat in and enjoy the view!

There are pine trees around the chalet, and as the balcony faces west and looks down the valley, it is beautifully scenic - great watching the sunset with a chilled glass of local wine, or watching the eagles soaring off the mountains. Utility Room: The washing machine and the separate drier are located in the entrance lobby behind louvred doors. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided, and the chalet will be cleaned and serviced weekly. Other: In the sous sol (basement) is a large boiler room leading off the lobby, with shelving for ski-boots and equipment (toasty warm to dry wet clothes), which leads to a ski room, where skis can be stored safely, with door to the outside parking area.
