About the Owner

My husband and I have decided to try a different life and enjoy what France has to offer. In the process we decided we also wanted to offer accommodation and meet new people, hence letting the barn.

France has always drawn us and after many years searching its this area where we feel most at home.

Rural escape

  • 5 of 5

We had 2 fantastic weeks, exploring the countryside and enjoying the pool when it got toooo hot.

Kimberly and Mike were great hosts with lots of ideas of places to visit.

The gite was all we could have asked for fully equipped and comfortable.

Very spacious, modern and clean gite. Everything you would possibly need is there. Very comfortable and private patio area. The pool area is perfect for a cooling swim and then relaxing on the loungers. Mike and Kim were the perfect hosts. Will not hesitate about returning.

Beautiful

  • 4 of 5

The barn is a beautiful place to stay. It is spacious and comfortable ,with every need carefully considered. The bed is very comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked ,with every thing that you could possibly need. The garden is peaceful and surrounded with sweet smelling jasmine . There is a lovely pool area to relax in. The owners Kim and Michael went out of their way to make us feel at home, leaving a welcome basket with cheese, wine and bread -very much appreciated, as we had arrived late. I would recommend this to my friends and we are actually planning our next visit already.

Beautiful Gite in Peaceful surroundings

  • 2 of 5

The gite is beautifully furnished. A most comfortable bed. Very clean. Generous welcome basket. Lovely outside space. When we arrived home after our holiday, we recieved in the post a souvenir of our stay in Bignay which was a lovely touch. We would have no hesitation in recommending this gite to all our friends. We look forward to returning.

Location

From the Owner

Why this area of France? Well it has rolling hills, fields of sunflowers, big open skies and amazing light and the second highest hours of sunshine in France. There is so much to visit all within short trips out - Cognac, Saintes, il d'Oleron, il de Re, Rochefort, Royan and La Rochelle, and slightly further afield to Bordeaux and the vineyards of St Emillion. The hamlet in which we live is special, interesting neighbours - one a nationally known sculptor and peace and tranquillity too.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Numerous beautiful beaches along the Charente Maritime coast can be found including the cote sauvage, Royan, St Georges de Didonne and those on the neighbouring islands of Oleron, Aix and Re all within 50 minutes of the property.

Travel:

Various airports at Bordeaux, Poitiers, Limoges and La Rochelle serve the area and ferry ports from the north include Caen, St Malo and Calais where you can also find the Channel Tunnel.

Although there are some good rail links a car is recommended.

Further Details:

A short walk to the local village where a church can be found or an 8 minute drive to the medieval town of St Jean D'Angely where all commerce, twice weekly market and bars and restaurants are concentrated. Here several supermarkets can be found which now open on Sunday mornings and leisure activities, Atlantys aquatic centre and mini golf, canoeing riverside walks. The towns of Saintes and Cognac are within 30 minutes and La Rochelle and Il de Re are within 50 minutes. Bordeaux is approximately 1 hours 15 minutes away offering all the attractions of a fantastic city and surrounding vineyards especially St Emillion to the east.
