Garden Apartment In Elegant, Spacious Old Tavira Townhouse, perfect location

About the property

Apartment in Tavira, Eastern Algarve, Portugal - Ideally Situated Just 2minutes' Walk From The Railway Station And 8minutes' Walk To Town Centre

Ideally situated on a wide, tree-lined avenue, just 2 minutes' walk from the railway station and 8minutes' walk from the centre of town, this comfortable apartment has that rare feature amongst townhouses - a good sized garden, with orange and lemon trees. The apartment is the ground floor of an old house, built around the turn of the 19th century when ceilings were high, windows ornate and there was a general feeling of spaciousness. It has been beautifully renovated, retaining many of the charming old features (like a handy well just outside the back door!) and modernised in keeping with the same mood. There are three bedrooms: two doubles and one twin, and two bathrooms. Air conditioning in two of the bedrooms. The air-conditioned dining area and the adjoining kitchen both have tall double doors that open onto a totally secluded, paved patio with bistro tables and chairs, just perfect for a sunny breakfast - or for a shady afternoon tea in the heat of the summer! Off the dining area is the 'snug' - a cosy evening room with two comfortable sofas and a big armchair. The house is in easy walking distance of everything that beautiful Tavira has to offer, and is ideal for a car-free holiday. But for those with cars, there is parking on meters opposite the house and free parking close by. The house is right opposite a small, very peaceful square with exotic trees and flowers that has two cafés and a bakers. There is also a Lidl supermarket tucked away by the railway station, 2 minutes' walk from the house. The Avenida, although just a few minutes' stroll from the centre of town, is sufficiently distant from the town centre to avoid noise, and is an area that is mostly 'Portuguese' rather than 'touristic'. It is a wide street, only busy at Tavira's very modest 'rush hours' (Tavira is an extremely quiet little town), and lined on both sides with jacaranda and other trees. About Constant van Scherpenseel

Goede morgen! I am Constant, professional photographer, spare-time actor and musician, and renovator of old houses. I have renovated many houses for other people and it has been so nice finally to do one for myself!

I love this house - particularly the unusual things like the little well by the outdoor kitchen - or what used to be the outdoor kitchen and is now one of several store rooms. I have tried to keep the spirit of the old house while making it thoroughly comfortable to live in.

I will do my best to answer any questions you might have in English, Dutch, German or Portuguese.

Why Constant van Scherpenseel chose Tavira region

Tavira is the most beautiful town in the Algarve - easily! And this is a great location in Tavira - on a beautiful Avenida, with local bars and cafés, close to the railway station, a handy supermarket nearby, and just a short stroll down the Avenue to the centre of town. So you can walk to all the tourist-ey things, and also get away from them to come 'home'.

What makes this apartment unique

The garden is the main benefit - it is so unusual to have a property with a garden in Tavira. And this is a good-sized garden, about 30m (100ft, more or less) long, full of fruit trees. There is a walled terrace, as well as a partly-covered patio area. The house has a very spacious, elegant feel - I loved it as soon as I saw it, even totally dilapidated. Now I am very proud of it.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We had a very relaxing time and are all 'switched off' and not wanting to get back to normal. Your house is lovely and we had a great Easter egg hunt in your garden!" Eileen, Catriona, Frank, Liam and Maeve, from Ireland.

"Thank you for a wonderful stay in your apartment. We've loved everything here. It's beautiful - well appointed and decorated, and very well equipped. the garden is an absolute delight." Derek Kane, England

A charming Portugese home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week in this charming, authentic, large and very well appointed apartment! The owner Constant - also charming and courteous - met us and gave us the tour, as well as pointing us to helpful directions and information about where things are in the town.

This was our first visit to Tavira and to the Eastern Algarve, we usually head west. What a beautiful town. Even though it's busy, it's so chilled out. Loads of restaurants and bars to choose from, some lovely shops and of course the beautiful bridge.

The location of this apartment couldn't have been better for us, we opted not to have a car this trip. The train station is just at the top of the road. A cheap and stress free way to travel.

Town is less than a 5 minute walk away and another couple of minutes to get the ferry to the beach.

The apartment had everything we could have needed. It was clean, airy, with beautiful features, we fell in love with it. The shutters keep the light, and any noise (although it's not an overly busy road) out. The air conditioning is very good too.

We will be recommending this apartment to our friends and family and we really hope to return in the future.

Charming oasis in a wonderful town!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this apartment in Tavira. The garden was an oasis and a perfect place to relax - even in January the sun was warm. The centre of town was only a 5 minute walk, as is an excellent Lidl supermarket. The apartment is spacious and full of character with everything needed for a perfect holiday. The owners went out of their way to ensure that we had a good time .All in all I would totally recommend this place for anyone seeking a relaxing break in Tavira.

very nice location , we surely will come back here

  • 5 of 5

Very much enjoyed staying in this fabulous old house - it feels more like a house than an apartment, so spacious. Great to have a garden with orange and lemon trees so close to the town centre. Lovely quiet avenue with nice little square opposite and a bakery for fresh bread every morning, and very close to the station, although no disturbance from trains. Perfect location.

Perfect combination of City, Sea and Sun

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely wonderful townhouse for a great stay in Tavira. The house is nearby the historical centre of Tavira as well as the sea.

The house has plenty of space with cosy and elegant furniture. It feels almost as your own home. Shops, restaurants and bars are at walking distance. There is a spacious garden with citrus trees. We loved our stay and we'll surely come back.

Fantastic holiday

  • 5 of 5

Dear Constant... Just a few words to say how much we enjoyed our summer holiday in your home that is arranged with taste in accordance with the local touch. We were also able to enjoy the garden and the dependency is very convenient. The House is close to all amenities including a take-away "O Tacho" 50 metres which dishes are very tasty and cheap. Thank you for your sympathy and your confidence that we enjoyed. We will certainly see us soon. Fantastic holiday

Enjoyable stay in townhouse, Tavira Portugal.

Arrived at accommodation a little late due to a flight delay. Not a problem, as the taxi transfer "yellowfish" were waiting and took us to the property from the airport in about 30 or so mins. Owner met us at house, and gave us the tour. Impressed with the house and how helpful Constant (The owner) is. Clean and tidy throughout, good sized rooms, comfy lounge, good bedrooms 2 with air con, 2 bathrooms and good sized kitchen dining room. Then outside to the washroom where washing machine and dishwasher are housed. Then into the garden, a few steps to the patio, there are tables and chairs and a BBQ and a couple of sunbeds. Ahead of you is the garden with its orange and lemon trees. Very quiet and peaceful. Watched the aerobatics of the local birds whilst sitting in the sun with a drink a few times! The house is situated near the train station but hardly any train noise is heard. Trains are good value and reliable. They print the times of next train and the last return train on the ticket. Simple but brilliant! A Lidl supermarket is next to the station. Walking into town / Roman bridge takes 10 mins. Turn right and straight down the road. Ferry to Tavira island and its plentiful beaches along the river a little. The ferry is good value or water taxi if required. Plenty of places to eat and drink in Tavira. Cafes with tables outside to just sit and relax. Bars with music, cocktails bars, plenty of choices. Free entertainment by the Roman bridge most nights. Also a wine tasting event in the park whilst we were there. Tavira has tours by land train or tuk tuk, a castle and gardens, park with fountains, Camera Obscura for a different view and the Fado museum where you can listen to live performances. Many churches in the town to visit. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the townhouse and Tavira and would highly recommend both. If you need any further information on the property of Tavira, feel free to ask. Regards Gary.
