Garden apartment in Tavira, Portugal - Ideally Situated Just 2minutes' Walk From The Railway Station And 8minutes' Walk To Town Centre

Ideally situated on a wide, tree-lined avenue, just 2 minutes' walk from the railway station and 8minutes' walk from the centre of town, this comfortable apartment has that rare feature amongst townhouses - a good sized garden, with orange and lemon trees. The apartment is the ground floor of an old house, built around the turn of the 19th century when ceilings were high, windows ornate and there was a general feeling of spaciousness. It has been beautifully renovated, retaining many of the charming old features (like a handy well just outside the back door!) and modernised in keeping with the same mood. There are three bedrooms: two doubles and one twin, and two bathrooms. Air conditioning in two of the bedrooms. The air-conditioned dining area and the adjoining kitchen both have tall double doors that open onto a totally secluded, paved patio with bistro tables and chairs, just perfect for a sunny breakfast - or for a shady afternoon tea in the heat of the summer! Off the dining area is the 'snug' - a cosy evening room with two comfortable sofas and a big armchair. The house is in easy walking distance of everything that beautiful Tavira has to offer, and is ideal for a car-free holiday. But for those with cars, there is parking on meters opposite the house and free parking close by. The house is right opposite a small, very peaceful square with exotic trees and flowers that has two cafés and a bakers. There is also a Lidl supermarket tucked away by the railway station, 2 minutes' walk from the house. The Avenida, although just a few minutes' stroll from the centre of town, is sufficiently distant from the town centre to avoid noise, and is an area that is mostly 'Portuguese' rather than 'touristic'. It is a wide street, only busy at Tavira's very modest 'rush hours' (Tavira is an extremely quiet little town), and lined on both sides with jacaranda and other trees. I love this house - particularly the unusual things like the little well by the outdoor kitchen - or what used to be the outdoor kitchen and is now one of several store rooms. I have tried to keep the spirit of the old house while making it thoroughly comfortable to live in.

I will do my best to answer any questions you might have in English, Dutch, German or Portuguese.

Why Constant van Scherpenseel chose Tavira

Tavira is the most beautiful town in the Algarve - easily! And this is a great location in Tavira - on a beautiful Avenida, with local bars and cafés, close to the railway station, a handy supermarket nearby, and just a short stroll down the Avenue to the centre of town. So you can easily walk to all the tourist-ey things, and also easily get away from them to come 'home'.

What makes this apartment unique

The garden is the main benefit - it is so unusual to have a property with a garden in Tavira. And this is a good-sized garden, about 30m (100ft, more or less) long, full of fruit trees. There is a walled terrace, as well as a partly-covered patio area. The house has a very spacious, elegant feel - I loved it as soon as I saw it, even totally dilapidated. Now I am very proud of it.

Perfect Getaway

We stayed in this charming apartment with our two teenage children in the October half term week. Constant, who is most helpful, was there to greet us when we arrived and show us around the apartment. It is full of beautiful old world charm and felt so spacious because of the high ceilings. It is just a short walk to Tavira town centre which is gorgeous with lots of restaurants serving delicious food - we felt spoilt for choice. There was enough to do and places to explore to keep two teenagers happy! We took the ferry to the beach - which was a wonderfully relaxing day. The train station is about a 3 minute walk from the apartment. We took the train to Faro one day - only 22 euros return for 4 people. We walked to the pretty village of Santa Luzia (about a half hour walk on good pavements). It's a proper working fishing village with a splattering of cafes and restaurants along the sea front. We certainly didn't need a car as there was so much to do in the immediate vicinity - especially as we were only there for a week. We used a taxi firm called Algarserra for our transfers from and to Faro airport who were excellent.

Both the town and Constant's apartment are gems and we would definitely love to stay there again. Brilliant holiday!

Perfect retreat and location

Felt like we lived in Tavira. Lovely neighborhood and residents. Close to everything. The garden had fruit trees bursting with ripe lemons and oranges.

position for seeing the sites of Tavira and all it has to offer. Lovely people resturants and

bars and we had perfect weather.

Lovely apartment, very well equipped, very good location - Constant was really helpful

We really enjoyed staying in Constant's apartment. It has a lovely garden with a variety of fruit trees and nice patio.

We were 2 grandparents, our daughter and son in law and their 5 month old daughter. Apartment has 3 bedrooms, nice kitchen, good dining area with a sitting room off and 2 bathrooms - one with shower and one with bath and shower over. There is also a pantry and a utility room with washing machine.

The owner, Constant, could not have been more helpful.

Apartment is really well located- about 2 mins walk from Tavira train station, 3 minutes walk from Lidl and 5 minutes walk from town centre. We hadn't hired a car and didn't need one. There are cafes close by and a variety of restaurants in the town centre.

Tavira is a lovely base for a holiday in the Algarve and Constant's garden apartment was perfect for us

An in town Paradise

We had a wonderful three month stay at the "Garden House" from the beginning of January this year. It is a lovely ground floor apartment in a traditional well equipped Tavira home with lots of internal space, with a large outside area with as lovely terrace, which we used frequently for meals including breakfast on the 7th January!,

The garden extends back with Orange, Lemon trees fruiting and in blossom and the Almonds in blossom, the scent was 'heady' and beautiful.

The house is in a superb location near to the centre of town, with train and bus links to explore further afield, with beautiful walks to beaches, villages, and remoter places, Spring time in the East Algarve is a wonderful time to visit if you wish to see wonderful visas of wild flowers and avenues of fruiting trees.

The owner 'Constant' kept in touch to ensure that we had a really good time during our extended stay. We confirmed to him that it was good, by booking for the same period in 2018

Location

Coast/Beach:

In the centre of town, which is divided by a river, you can get a water taxi or ferry to the justly famous Tavira Island, which has wonderful expanses of clean, gently sloping beach.

Travel:

About 45 minutes from Faro airport. There is easy parking by the house, but it is also ideal for a car-free holiday.

Further Details:

The apartment is very near a large Lidl supermarket and opposite a charming plaza with cafés, a fresh bread shop and a few other local shops and restaurants, including two excellent little places serving take-away, home-cooked and extremely reasonably-priced Portuguese food. Although just a ten minute stroll from the centre of Tavira, this is a Portuguese, rather than a tourist area, and extremely relaxed.
