About Powell Strong

I'm a marine biologist, specialising in marine mammals locally. I am a lecturer and run guided walks. St Brides cottage is my home, but I rent it out during the summer and holiday periods when I live in a caravan nearby.

I moved here because of the local marine mammal populations that I was working on. St Davids is a fantastic combination of Welsh small local community mixed with that seaside holiday feeling.

Why Powell Strong chose St Brides Bay, St Davids & The West Coast

The coast path, cathedral, local history, archaeology, wildlife, scenery, beaches, surfing, fishing, coast path, Ramsey Islands, coastal flowers in May, ....the list goes on.

St Brides Cottage is in St Davids so is walking distance to everything. Caerfai Beach and the coast path are a couple of minutes walk away. Whitesands beach is about a 20 min walk.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is approx 150 years old so is made of stone and slate. The cottage has been traditionally restored using lime mortar and exposing and retaining as many original features as possible. The kitchen and bathroom are new and include washing machine, dishwasher etc. The living room has a wood burning stove. The property is double glazed, has gas central heating

Bryn Rd is not one of the main through roads, so traffic jams and road noise are not a problem. There is unrestricted parking on this part of Bryn Rd.

St Davids is a beautiful place. Cottage is walkable to all of the city. Bishops Palace goid to visit. We sang in the Cathedral which is an amazing building.

Owner's Response: St Brides Cottage is a traditional stone, earth and lime mortar building that has been renovated with traditional materials where possible. When the weather has been damp, there can be a slightly damp smell. I hope this didn't spoil your holiday too much.

St Brides cottage

  • 4 of 5

St Brides was as described a traditional stone cottage in a row of similar cottages, It was well equipped and everything worked as it should. The furniture was as pictured and appliances were in a new condition. It is about a 30 second walk down a passageway to the main street which had a good selection of shops, and eating places including two pubs which we found the Bishops very good. Parking is on a first come basis but we always found somewhere to park close by.

Delightful, good facilities, ideally positioned, clean and excellent value.

  • 4 of 5

Easy to arrange and deal with the owner, the bathroom and kitchen were well supplied with plenty of hot water and brand new white goods in the kitchen. The cottage had a nice homely feel and a little private outside area. Everything was clean and tidy and there a good selection of books, a TV and a functioning wood burner. It was perfectly placed for a few days in St David's with many good places to eat, a great deli, several gift and art shops, a fascinating cathedral and an information centre. Ideal for walking parts of the coastal path and visiting the fabulously clean beaches. It was easy enough to park nearby and quiet at night. One of the mattresses on the single beds was a bit soft and the sofas in the lounge could probably be upgraded to match the rest of the facilities but really this was not a problem. Definitely worth a visit.
