House in Bompas, Ariege, Midi-Pyrenees, France - Peaceful Location With River Walks Opposite, Easy Reach Of Tarascon Sur Ariege, Foix And Mirepoix

Our two bedroom detached house is situated on the edge of the village of Bompas close to the picturque market towns of Tarascon sur Ariege and Foix .The house is set in a large secure garden with parking, barbecue and seating area. Enjoy dinning or relaxing outside while enjoying the mountain view. Inside, the house is fully equipped including free Wifi. Enjoy walks along the river or feed the numerous ducks who appear from nowhere when food arrives! Walk to the next village of Mercus to visit the boulangerie for freshly baked bread or a drink in the local bar/resturant. Visit the nearby pre-historic park and the caves of Bedeilhac and Niaux perhaps take in the ski and spa resort of Ax-les-Thermes with its hots springs. Why not visit medieval market towns of Mirepoix and further afield Carcassonne. For those of you who enjoy water sports go to the Base Nautique http://www.basenautiquemercus.fr/public/ which has a range of activities open mid June to end of August. The property is easily reached from Toulouse and Carcassonne airports about one and quarter hours away.

Great location, lovely house

Lovely comfortable and well equipped house. It looks small from the outside but agree with other reviews that there is plenty of room due to clever design and storage. Large garden and we were not bothered by nearby road or railway. The house is in a beautiful part of France with lots of history, a car is necessary to appreciate and visit the local area.

Communication with Wendy excellent. Very easy and straightforward process.

Wonderful place to stay

The property is easily found and first impressions are that it might be a bit small, a bit near the road/railway and a bit remote. Give it 24 hours and you will realise none of these are an issue; it is bigger than you think with ample room to cook, eat and relax. The property is really well equipped and it feels like a home from home rather than a rented place.

The outside space is lovely too and we enjoyed making use of the sun loungers in the large grounds.

The road which runs in front of the property is not busy and the hedging ensures privacy and keeps any road noise down. We liked to watch people go backwards and forwards and motorcyclist in particular were often keen to give a wave as they passed the top of the drive. The railway just beyond the road is not busy and again the (very) occasional train is a pleasant diversion. At night, the road and railway fall silent and the only sound is the odd owl. The motorway a little further away cannot be seen or heard.

Bompas has little to offer other than a quiet beauty, which extends to the village behind the property too. Friendly locals are happy to wish you a good day if you take a morning stroll.

We liked to walk into Tarascon; about 30 minutes on the old road the other side of the railway and then a footpath and then a pavement into town. Great place for a meal or simply to have some wine or coffee and watch the world go by (very slowly).

So our fears were short-lived. We loved our week in the property and saw some amazing places but were always happy to get back 'home' to a comfortable place where a wine or two could be enjoyed outdoors in the evening sun. Definitely worth a visit, but car essential of course.

Great stay

We stayed for a week with our two year old toddler. Wendy and John were very helpful and accommodating and provided everything we would need. The house is a tardis and a great place to relax. It is close to a road but you soon forget about it. The stairs are very steep so an extra eye on small children is needed (although a stair gate is provided).

We really enjoyed the local area and playing in the garden. We would love to return in the near future!

Excellent - recommended

Comfort, convenience and Le Tour going past the gate. What more can you ask for? The booking process and directions were excellent. Two couples enjoyed the house without bumping into each other. Everything that we needed was close to hand, with easy access to the solitude of the mountains. Ideal location.

Great location & great wee house

The property is exactly what we expected from the website and the owners provided all the information we needed before we arrived. Property was well presented and clean and easy to keep clean. It was exactly what we needed as a base for walking, cycling, canoeing and relaxing - easy to get to lots of the places the area has to offer. Recommended.

Excellent small gite very central and easy to find

There were 3 adults in our party and we found the gitextremely comfortable. The surrounding countryside is very beautiful and the view of the Pyrenees covered in snow from the backdoor was stunning. Foix is very close and an excellent town as is Tarascon just a few kilometers away. We love walking and were spoilt for choice; the wild flowers were excellent. Although the gite is very close to a minor road, the railway and the N20 we were not unduly disturbed.

It is a pretty house with stunning scenery and amazing places to visit nearby. For us, the area is perfect for walking climbing and skiing. What we love about the house is the fact we get the best of all worlds: country living with towns and shops close by.

Carcassone airport about 1hr 15mins by car Ryanair

Car is essential.

Distances:

Tarascon sur Ariege 3km ...Market town, clock tower with views over the town

Foix ...Chateau de Foix is a castle which dominates the town, it is known as the centre of the Cathars. Foix has several markets the main market is Friday. 20 mins by car.

Mirepoix is medieval market town and well worth a visit. 40mins by car.

Pre historic park Tarascon about 5km.

Bedeilhac caves 15mins by car

Niaux cave 15mins by car

Andorra 1hr 40 mins by car

Pamiers 30 mins by car

Nearest supermarkets, shops, banks and restaurants in Tarascon sur Ariege. Larger supermarkets to be found near or in Foix.

Our daughter and son in law live 9km away, should there be any issues during your stay.
