Cottage in Castillon-en-Auge, Lisieux, Calvados, Normandy, France - Rural Countryside Location In The Normandy Countryside
Traditional colombage cottage set in an idyllic rural location deep in the heart of the Pays d'Auge. This is the perfect location for those wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of life yet have a base perfect for exploring this region of France. The property comprises an open-plan sitting room with kitchen and dining area, mezzanine bedroom (with twin beds) bordered by old beams (bedroom unsuitable for unsupervised young children) steps to bathroom and double bedroom. Set in a large (3/4 acre) garden a stone's throw from my own holiday house.

About the Owner
I have owned this property for over a decade and spent many happy family holidays there. In recent years I have let the property out to friends who have all loved the time spend in Castille-en-Auge, now it's my pleasure to offer you this great opportunity to enjoy a holiday with a difference.
A simple dwelling without the modern trappings, for me it's the tranquility of the location away from the hustle and bustle of life that is the real appeal. The ability to just relax on a sunny day, to enjoy some of the finest Calvados and Cheeses France has to offer all made locally. And if there is fruit on the trees when you are staying then please help yourselves.
It's a gorgeous part of the world and I hope you have a wonderful stay.

Peaceful cottage in rural Normandy.
We stayed for five nights in Castillon - we are a family of four, with two kids aged 7 and 5. The cottage is set in a beautiful part of Normandy with loads to explore. We enjoyed the wildlife park Cerza, the local town of Livarot's cheese festival and a trip to the forest around Falaise. The cottage is remote and rural, with beautiful farms around, but also near enough to local towns.
The cottage is very quaint, in the local half timbered style. It is fairly basic inside, and you may want to take with you: bottle opener, can opener, cheese grater, tea towels, bed sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers (it does mention that bed linen isn't provided on the listing, but we'd not read the small print - the owner kindly lent us some spares!).
It is worth pointing out that the cottage is set in the garden of the owner Katharine's house, a short stone's throw from the house. The owners were also staying there on holiday when we visited, so the feel is more of staying in someone's garden than the isolation that you would feel if you were there on your own. Katharine and her daughter were very nice to us, popping in to drop off a night light when she noticed we'd left the lights on overnight for our little ones, and bringing us useful leaflets for local attractions!
Perfect for those wanting to get away from it all
This cottage is exactly what you would want - if you want to get away from it all. It has absolutely no modern electronics - no wi fi, no television, even no radio (decent mobile signal though). The furnishings are pretty basic, but perfectly adequate, and access to the bathroom from the lounge is quirky.
Having said all that, we had a fabulous stay in a lovely cottage in a beautiful area of Normandy.
Perfect place for those looking for peace & quiet
This property is exactly as described - rustic & in the middle of nowhere. We were lucky enough to be able to spend most of the time in the garden enjoying the sunshine and a glass of wine (or two), while enjoying listening to the cows, sheep & woodpeckers. There are some lovely local villages to amble around & Cabourg is definitely worth visiting. There are no mod cons in this property which makes it a perfect place to relax & get away from it all.
the right place where you can enjoy calmness and nature
We were really glad to have found a place where we could live and relax surrounded by nature and animals (big trees, pastures, cows, sheep...). When we opened the door of our bedroom, we had the impression of living outside in pure nature.
Although it was aready in the second half or August, we always had wonderful weather (hot and sunny) and so we could take all our meals outside - what we really enjoyed a lot.
Our hosts Katherine and her daughter Laura were always so friendly and ready to help with all the information we needed (e.g. where to buy things, what to visit...). On the other hand they were really very careful not to intrude in our privacy.
We liked to visit Lisieux several times, the fromagerie of Livarot, the amazing cliffs of Etretât, other seaside places, Caen with the magnificent castle of William the conquerer and all the second world war memorial places (which were especially interesting for our two sons).
From the Owner
“Finding a great property in a wonderful location is a challenging task but fun too. A thorough search of the Normandy area and we discovered this wonderful quaint cottage tucked away in rural Normandy. Whatever the season this location has its charms. On warm clear days the sun beams down and one has to relax. When it is raining then you have the possibility to visit towns in the regions together with their amazing markets. In the winter the scenery is stunning. At night when the sky is clear the heavens are full of stars. Everyone who visits has a wonderful time and I hope you enjoy your stay too.”

Livarot is the best place for local shopping and boasts two supermarkets, a great selection of shops including several boulangeries (try the freshly baked different types of bread and the beautiful pâtisseries!), banks, a post office and a really helpful tourist information centre providing free WiFi.
Don't miss the Monday morning market at St Pierre-sûr-Dives (lots to see including plenty of fresh food, chickens, rabbits and ferrets); and why not bring home some fabulous mussels for lunch?
The local cheeses are spectacular (a visit to the cheese museum in Livarot is not to be missed!) and the Calvados is 2nd to none.
