Modernised French farmhouse in stunning location with pool and lovely views

Overview

Property

Updated: 11-Nov-2016
Farmhouse in Beaumont de Lomagne, Tarn et Garonne, Midi-Pyrenees, France - Peaceful Location But Close To Delightful Market Town With All Services Available

Las Mothes in the east of Gascony is a typical farmhouse in the Lomagne style beneath a terra cotta tiled roof but has been modernised internally with a fully-equipped modern kitchen and has been completely refurnished in the past 12 months with new furniture and benefits from additions such as satellite TV and wi-fi access. It is perfect for outdoor eating with three terraces, one of which is directly accessible from the dining room via French windows and the sun sets beyond the pool deck.

The Base de Loisirs in Beaumont has mini-golf, golf clinic, tennis, petanque and water sports including sailing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, pedal boat). There are three pools and two waterslides. The base de loisir is based on a man-made lake which makes a perfect circuit for jogging or cycling around with an excellent surface. There are two other superb leisure areas within a 15 minute drive at St Clar and St Sardos, both with superb pools and water-based activities. At St Nicholas de la Grave there is a huge water sports leisure park where the Garonne widens to form a natural basin. For younger children there are attractions such as the Ferme Pedagogique St Martin, the Agrip Aventure (a zip-wire in the trees experience); the Animaparc near Grenade 20 minutes away or the Parc Animalier at St Clar.

About the Owner

My wife and I rented houses in France for our summer holidays for about 15 years. We were usually disappointed with something. In particular, my wife was always disappointed with how poorly equipped the kitchens were. Suffice it to say, we have made sure we haven't repeated that mistake. Las Mothes was planned to be our retirement home but circumstances have changed that idea in the short term. So it was fitted out and furnished with our use in mind rather than to be just a holiday home. It isn't perfect but because both of us have worked in some area of the tourism industry for the past 30 years, we think we know how visitors like to be treated. We hope our visitors enjoy their time at Las Mothes.

Stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We have visited France more years than we care to mention with the family and had varying experiences. This property and the surrounding area was at the very top. The house is wonderfully situated and the views stunning. The house is very spacious, clean and has all mod cons. The kitchen was a stand out area with everything you will ever need. Outside there are two great areas to eat both with great views. The pool is a Great area with the seating around the pool a real treat. The local villages and countryside were stunning and the locals very welcoming. Visit the local cave at st Sardon for an immediate infusion as the wines were great. You will love it!

Heaven on Earth, better than we'd ever imagined!

  • 5 of 5

First of all let's set the scene, the property is located in the most picturesque location amongst the rolling hills outside of Beaumont de Lomagne, it's been our favourite region as has neighbouring Gers for some years so we know what we're looking for in a property and its location.

The description of the property is spot on, in fact the property is better than we'd expected, fully equipped with everything a family would need for a stress free stay. The property is clean, loved and clearly cared for by someone who cares, all the equipment worked faultlessly and it has all the facilities you need, it was a home from home, BUT BETTER! The well equipped modern (but characterful) kitchen is the heart of the house which is where we found ourselves most of the time, apart from when being out on the patio or in the pool.

The house is only 3 miles from the centre of Beaumont so nice and close to buy your baquettes and croissants each morning, we visited several markets in surrounding villages, explored the countryside and even made it to a couple of restaurants, one that Martin hasn't even visited yet but we can highly recommend.

Martin has prepared a folder which is a comprehensive guide to the house and its surroundings, including advice on where to visit, the markets, shops, restaurants, pretty villages, stunning scenery etc. The customer service is second to none, not that we had any issues, the local (English) caretaker lives less than a mile away and was there to greet us, talk us through where everything was and how it all worked, paid us a visit mid way then came to see us off at the end, we just couldn't fault this place in any way, it is quite simply Heaven on Earth.

Would we recommend it to anyone else? That's a tricky one, as long as they don't want the same week as we'd like as we'll most definitely be back, and next time we're staying for TWO weeks. Our entire family loved it and we're already planning our next visit.

Thank you Martin and family for such a memorable stay in the best holiday rental we've stayed in and in the most spectacular of locations.

Lovely rural retreat in South West France

  • 5 of 5

Las Mothes is a carefully restored former farmhouse near the small market town of Beaumont-de-Lomagne in the Tarn et Garonne Departement. The accommodation is spacious and the property is fitted out to a good standard. In particular, the kitchen is among the best I have seen in many years of staying in private villas and the outside areas around the pool and the dining terrace are also outstanding.

This part of France really is a bit of an undiscovered gem and not for nothing is it sometimes referred to as the French Tuscany. This is rural France at its best; friendly, laid back and sometimes a little quirky with the beautiful rolling countryside viewed from well maintained and almost empty roads.

The town of Beaumont-de-Lomagne is about 5 kilometres from the house and has a lively market every Saturday morning with lots of local produce for the keen cook. For those less keen (and I confess to being one of these) there is also a perfectly adequate supermarket where a week's shop can be completed quickly thereby allowing more time to sip ice cold beer by the pool whilst admiring the stunning views.

Are there downsides? Well, a car with a sat nav is probably an essential and, this being rural France, not much in the way of restaurants opens on a Sunday or even a Monday meaning stocking up at the market is to be advised. Other than that, nothing to stop you having a lovely relaxing holiday in a stunning location.

Perfect rural retreat.

  • 5 of 5

Idyllic setting, very comfortable accommodation, perfect for experiencing rural France, and a lovely family holiday.

We stayed last summer surrounded by fields of Sunflowers. Beautiful location near a lovely little town, Beaumont- de-Lomange, the garlic festival was on while we were there. We had a lovely meal at the local gourmet restaurant. A short drive gets you to Lectoure, a delightful town with its Friday market selling local produce. The much larger Montauban , with its remarkable red brick bridge built in the 14th century, spanning the river Tarn is well worth a visit and not just for its history - the shopping and cafes’ are good too.

The farmhouse was very clean and well maintained with excellent facilities. Mr Lewis was very helpful with recommending places to visit.

The garden terrace next to the dining room was lovely for breakfast or a relaxing evening meal and a swim in the beautiful pool was the perfect way to start your day or to refresh yourself after a day out enjoying the sights.

I would definitely recommend a stay at this property.

Just superb !

  • 5 of 5

A superb farmhouse in a peaceful rural position that commands wonderful views of the surrounding countryside - we were there when the sunflowers were in bloom and the photos don't do it justice - it was stunning. The interior has been beautifully restored and we found that it had all the space needed for our large group. On a hot summer's day, the terraces were spacious with enough shade to allow comfortable dining out of the sun on a hot summer's day and the pool very welcoming - it was comforting to see the pool safety alarm in place even though we had no children with us. The small town of Beaumont-de-Lomagne is just a short distance away - if you're looking for a restaurant try 'La Maison des Lumieres'.

Location

From the Owner

We fell in love with the location of this property and then spent two years refurbishing and furnishing it to be our home. It commands 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside with no traffic noise. It is a peaceful retreat in the French countryside yet only a few minutes away from Beaumont de Lomagne with its market, shops, restaurants and supermarkets. It is a perfect family holiday venue - safe for children who can make as much noise as they like without disturbing neighbours while for adults it is the perfect place to eat, drink and relax on one of the three terraces.
