Perfick, "A breath of French air"
We spent a week at Myrtle cottage in July of last year and enjoyed it immensely. We were a group of 10, 8 adults and two children aged 1 and 2. The house is lovely and has the feel of a home. The pool has a fence to keep the little ones safe. We explored the area in the mornings and spent most afternoons in an around the pool. There is a long table in the garden for a large group to enjoy the warm evenings with a nice view over the valley. The Dordogne is beautiful and the castles are very impressive. Castelnaud for example has been restored and commands great views of the river. Belves is a pretty medieval village and has a food fair or night market on a Wednesday evening which is fun and full of atmosphere and very tasty too. Try the Magret de Canard with Pommes de Terre Sarladaises. There is a supermarket nearby and a bakery within walking/biking distance for the breakfast. Toby was there to welcome us on our arrival and show us the house which he restored himself. All in all a great place.

Perfect Family Holiday
This was our second stay at Myrtle Cottage which we enjoyed very much once again with another family who also had younger school age children. The house and garden were ideal for our needs, the adults enjoyed the relaxation, views and star gazing, whilst the children loved the large pool and very spacious garden/grounds for all sorts of activities that involved running, balls and bikes! The location was ideal and within easy reach of many activities that appealed to all age groups from biking, swimming in and also canoeing along the Dordogne, to Castles, Caves and medieval town exploration. We also enjoyed cycling into Belves every morning (10 mins or so) for the daily croissant/baguette run! I would certainly recommend this property to a friend or relative, but might warn them that the stairs up to the attic room are quite steep for very little ones and it can also get hot in that attic room in very warm weather. The customer service offered by Toby and Isobel was also great and their description of the property is accurate.

delightful break
We arrived as a large three generational family group at Myrtle cottage and enjoyed a delightful holiday. The house is excellent and has all the facilities one would expect including an excellent kitchen and pleasant sitting room. The pool and garden areas were also delightful. The location is very good - Belves is near enough to walk in but monplaisant itself is very quiet and our rural idyll was only disturbed by a couple of cars passing each day! The views over the valley are lovely and was a pleasure to watch hot air balloons rise in the distance every evening. A good supermarket is a mere 10 minutes drive away. all in all an excellent base for relaxing and for visiting local attractions. i would not hesitate to recommend this property for a really relaxing break.

Our stay at Myrtle Cottage
We always look forward to our holidays in the Perigord Noir and this year the house we had chosen looked lovely; full of character, spacious and in a beautiful setting, so when we arrived and found that it met all our expectations and more we knew we were in for a fabulous stay. We were a large family party to full capacity, so space is all important and we were not disappointed. Spacous bedrooms, the children loved the top room with several beds, well fitted bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen and what a lovely family room overlooking the garden and pool and a comfortable lounge, with plenty of room for us all to relax at the end of the day; having said this we spent many an evening sitting outside enjoying the tranquility of the location; the whole place felt like home from home and we settled into living in this lovely space for the next two weeks. The children loved the spacious garden and we all enjoyed the beautiful pool which we made good use of; as the weather was glorious pretty well all the way through; we couldn't have asked for more. It was also in an ideal position for the shops and supermarkets, close enough so it was a quick drive but still far enough away to be able to enjoy the tranquility of the area. Also a very easy run to all the main attractions of the Perigord Noir and the river again only a few minutes drive away. All of us enjoyed the stay so much it was a bit of a wrench to leave, having made ourselves at home in this very lovely, family friendly, homely cottage. This is certainly a cottage we would love to stay in again and thank you for allowing us to be able to enjoy your lovely home. Peter and family

Maison Myrtle
We stayed at Maison Myrtle in August 2011. The house more than fulfilled our expectations and the photos on the website are very true. We were easily accommodated (10 of us). The children had a great time in the outdoor pool and the large garden was great for them. There were plenty of indoor and outdoor toys available to keep them entertained. Huge selection of DVDs and books to choose from. Belvès was within walking distance (about 20 mins). It's a beautiful medieval town with interesting caves to explore and stunning views. I would recommend a visit to Beynac, Castelnaud, Monpazier, Domme, Sarlat as well as to the caves in Les Eyzies. The older children also enjoyed canoeing on the Dordogne. Plenty to do in the area. Good bakery close by. We drove from UK and stopped over in Paris region, but it was still a 7 hour drive from there. Bergerac airport nearby though. Very hot (37 degrees) when we arrived so would have been nice to have a fan in the bedrooms.
