Overview

About the property

Salcombe, Soar Mill Cove - Peaceful location, 10 minutes drive to Salcombe

Modern, well equipped lodge on a peaceful development in the hamlet of Soar just above Soar Mill Cove which offers a beautiful, quiet and unspoilt beach perfect for beachcombing and playing in rock pools. The lodge is in an area of 'outstanding natural beauty' just outside of the quaint seaside village of Salcombe. Nearby there are amazing walks along the South West coastal path, offering some of the UK's most stunning coastline and with access along the way to many other beaches and coves. The area is well known for it's abundance of wildlife with lots of rare birds and the occasional red deer. Marlborough is close by offering local amenities, ATM, Licensed Tesco, Petrol etc as well as pubs and restaurants. One of the biggest selling points of this lodge is its proximity to Salcombe (within 3 miles). This outstanding fishing village offers something for all the family traditional sweet shops, boutique shops, outstanding restaurants, stunning cafes, sailing, fishing and water sports. If you fancy a tipple or two The Queen Vic (with a huge play area out the back for kids) is worth a trip, or The Ferry Inn where you can watch the boats go by. Be sure to try the local Gin from the Salcombe Gin Distillery with a splash of grapefruit.. From Salcombe you can walk to North Sands or take the foot passenger ferry across the estuary to South Sands (2 miles from Soar) and Kingsbridge. Totnes, Dartmouth, Slapton Sands, Burgh Island and the South Devon steam railway are all local also and well worth a look. Overbecks National Trust House just above Splat Cove offers fantastic views over the estuary and beyond as well as a fantastic cafe with amazing lunch. This is an area of the UK that will have you returning year after year. free wi-fi.

Why Katie Richardson chose Kingsbridge

My nana is the proprietor of the lodge as she is in her 90's I look after the bookings for her. Having discovered Salcombe in the 50's when she visited on holiday, Our whole family has come back again and again. Nana brought her children here (my father) and now nanas children bring theirs. After 4 generations she wanted to buy somewhere where we could all stay on our Salcombe holidays.

Soar is just far enough away from Salcombe to escape the crowds but still within easy reach to access the village and the surrounding beaches.

For those who like a good walk, the cliff walk into Salcombe offers exceptional views and some great pubs along the way.

What makes this chalet unique

This lodge benefits from a fantastic rural location, where the kids can run free and play on the playground. The veranda is perfect for soaking up the sun and we have a gas BBQ great for long summer days. Marlborough is a only a short drive to the co-op offering daily fresh bread, fish and meat. Its also licensed. Tesco in Knightsbridge also deliver to the site which is an added bonus if you've had a long drive and don't want to pack everything. The lodge really is a home from home for us though and as such we've facilitated it with all utensils you should need.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you Betty for a most enjoyable stay, the lodge really felt like a home from home. The kids loved running about in the fields while we relaxed on the balcony. We will be back

Lovely quiet location and accommodation

  • 5 of 5

We had everything we needed in this property for a great weeks stay. Having space for the children with the on site playground was great. The lodge with all its facilities meant not having to worry about washing clothes or dishes meaning days could be spent out and about exploring. Would highly recommend!

This property was a dream. If you want total seclusion grom the rigours of everyday living, come to the retreat at Soar Mill. No noise, no hustle and bustle of the modern life. Peace quiet, birdsong and beauty. Recharge your batteries at Katie Haworth's lodge.
